"Someone was there to help me avoid [FGM] and now it’s my time to give back to them." When Everlin was growing up in a small village in Northern Kenya, female genital mutilation (FGM) was seen as a right of passage for the girls in her community. But when a missionary came to her village and told her about the harms of FGM, Everlin stood up against the traditional practice and pressure to get married. "That’s when I decided no, I didn’t want to do it." Today, Everlin is giving back to her community as she works with World Vision Kenya to protect children, including educating girls on harmful practices like FGM. "I needed someone to hold my hand at that point and right now I feel very good that I’m there. I’m the one holding their hand and showing them the way." #WeAreWorldVision #EndFGM

  • 📺 Please watch and share our video. #Migration in the Asia-Pacific region significantly impacts children and youth (CAY), with over 1.3 million child migrants within the ASEAN region. Many face emotional challenges, including psychological distress and increased vulnerability to exploitation, arising from parental separation. Prioritising CAY well-being and including their voices in migration discussions is crucial for creating child-centred policies that promote their safety, growth, and resilience. Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems provide a crucial foundation for protecting children's rights by establishing their legal identity, facilitating access to essential services, and enabling effective protection mechanisms. #ForMigration #ChildMigration #YouthMigration #AsiaPacific #CRVS #ChildProtection #ChildRights #YouthEmpowerment World Vision Bangladesh, World Vision International Nepal, World Vision PH, World Vision Lanka

🏫 𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗿 𝗗𝘄𝗶𝗽, Teknaf Upazilla at Cox's Bazar district, education often takes a backseat to survival. Boys follow their fathers into fishing, while girls take on household chores. For Maryam, a 38-year-old mother, this was her reality. Forced to leave school after fifth grade for marriage, she now finds herself raising two children, Emon (10) and Ayesha (7), amidst poverty and limited educational opportunities. 🎒 𝗜𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗽𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆, 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀, and a lack of awareness about children’s rights make education a challenge. However, through World Vision’s education project for vulnerable children in Cox’s Bazar, funded by UNESCO, change began to unfold. This initiative trained 223 teachers and provided parenting education to over 4,460 carers, including Maryam. 🧠 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, Maryam learnt about child development, health, nutrition, and positive parenting. “I used to think physical discipline was necessary,” she shared. “But the session taught me it harms a child’s growth and emotional well-being.” 💡 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, Maryam transformed her parenting approach. She now helps her children with homework, communicates with their teachers, and involves them in family decisions—once unheard of in her home. “Their academic performance has improved, and they’re happier knowing their opinions matter,” she said proudly. 🎯 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮𝗺’𝘀 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱. “I want my children to pursue education as far as they desire. It’s not just my dream but also theirs,” she shared, her determination shining through. #PositiveParenting #worldvisionbangladesh #InternationalEducationDay
