Looking back at this year’s top podcast conversations, one thing stands out: sustainability in aviation is built on collaboration (and gratitude). Our guests often share how they lean on their peers to navigate this complex, evolving space together. Amelia DeLuca from Delta Air Lines reflected on how open, candid conversations with leaders like Jill Blickstein (American Airlines), Lauren Riley (United Airlines), Stacy Brakhage (Southwest Airlines), Diana Birkett Rakow (Alaska Airlines), Sara Bogdan (JetBlue) and others are driving real progress. Grace Cheung from Cathay Pacific echoes this same sentiment, highlighting the importance of learning from counterparts like Jonathon Counsell (International Airlines Group (IAG)). It’s a reminder that progress is always better when shared. Grace’s full episode lands in early 2025 – subscribe now to hear it first. Energy efficiency has long been a cornerstone of aviation progress. As Valérie Guénon of Safran Aircraft Engines puts it: “For decades, we have worked on engine efficiency for economic reasons, and the good news is that it has gone in the same direction as reducing CO2 emissions per passenger kilometre.” This dual alignment of economic and environmental benefits has spurred continuous innovation in engine technology – one of the most significant levers in aviation's journey towards net zero. How can the industry further accelerate these gains while balancing other environmental priorities like noise reduction and sustainable fuel integration? Discover insights from our conversation with Guénon on the latest #podcast episode: https://lnkd.in/dTnpiaUJ

As aviation grapples with its environmental impact, engine innovation will be a critical lever for reducing emissions. The importance of engine innovation becomes evident when we look at lifecycle emissions data. “Over its lifetime, an engine emits CO2. More than 95% of these CO2 emissions is due to the operating of the aircraft”, explains Valérie Guénon, VP of Product Environment Policies at Safran Aircraft Engines. But the environmental impact of engines goes beyond CO2. As Guénon highlights, “Engines also make a lot of noise. And noise around the airports is also a question of health... it is an environmental impact”. In our latest podcast episode, Valérie Guénon joins Shashank Nigam ✈ to share how Safran Aircraft Engines is addressing these challenges. Here are the key highlights of the conversation: 💚 Engine efficiency vs environmental impact (3:43) 💚 RISE engine program and Open Fan technology (6:55) 💚 Making engines 100% SAF compatible (16:32) 💚 Safran’s role in scaling up SAF production (22:26) 💚 Electric and hybrid propulsion developments (27:25) 💚 Impact of increasing flying costs on demand (39:12) 💚 Gender diversity in aerospace engineering (47:52) 💚 Rapid Fire! 760,000+ views this year – how does that stack up? If each view were a seat on Heart Aerospace’s electric ES-30, we’d be filling planes every day for nearly 70 years. That’s the kind of momentum your listens, reads, and shares have created around #sustainableaviation. For a niche space, that’s pretty electrifying and worth celebrating. What’s the one topic you think deserves more attention in 2025? 💚
