The staff at this hotel were outstanding. Very friendly, always offering to help or assist with any request. I have given this hotel a 4 Star due to their staff. We wen to Chicago for a Cubs game and the location of this hotel was just perfect. The neighbourhood was great. So many restaurants, shopping and grocery and coffee shops available and walkable. The hotel itself is worn and tired. The rooms were dated and you know they tried their best to clean but you cant clean an old worn carpet. We had several wall paper patches in our room and the bathroom. In my opinion not worth the price we paid based on the room. But I loved the staff and the location so it was a trade off.

Cost-effective. Good location and convenient transportation. The hotel's design is full of modernity, and it matches the high-quality style of the entire city of Chicago. Service was good and very clean.

First time in Chicago and chose this hotel because of its central location and it was amazing! The room was clean, and well-organized. The staff at the front desk were also really friendly and helpful, always making sure I had what I needed. Overall, I was very happy with the cleanliness and service. I’ll definitely stay here again!

It's very clean and the service is good. It's right in the city center. It's convenient. It's suitable for friends who like to go to scenic spots. But if you drive there, the parking fee is a bit expensive! !

My family and I arrived around 330AM on a Friday night/Saturday morning. Service: 4/5 The Night staff was awesome, hospitality was IMPECCABLE! From the receptionist , bellhop helper, security, you name it! I wish I could remember their names but the receptionist was a young African American male about early-mid 20s! The morning crew and afternoon crew need some pointers from the night shift staff because they need some work. Rooms: 3/5 Our room had 2 full size beds, they were nice and spacious for all 4 of us (3 adults & 1 child). No microwave was an inconvenience but it wasn’t too big of a deal since our short was stay. Overall I would rate our stay a 4/5 (Would have been 3.5/5 had it not been for the service we experienced when checking in.

I was in this hotel for a conference so my need is quite minimal. Generally speaking the hotel is in a great location that is easily accessible. The room itself is fairly simple , I think for this price though the service should be a little better. My room has couple of occasion that the tea and coffee wasn’t top up after cleaning and soap as well. The bathtub is a bit stained but it is cleaned. Wifi - there were multiple times that it was a bit slow . If I have to rank based on the price as well I would say above average

The elevator halls on each floor are very spacious, with 14 elevators. Although you need to change elevators on the 20th floor, it is still very convenient. It has a good view of Lake Michigan and the park. The service in the restaurant is friendly and the breakfast price is reasonable at US$25.

The twin room is large and has an excellent location, making it very suitable for short-term family travel. All attractions are within walking distance, including Millennium Park, Cloud Gate, art museums, cruise ships, etc.

This is a pleasant, modern and airy hotel in downtown Chicago. We enjoyed our stay very much, but didn't eat in the hotel (apart from one snack in the bar), so I can't comment on the cuisine. The room was a good size, spacious and comfortable, with an excellent modern en-suite shower and toilet. The bed was large and very comfortable and every night afforded us a good night's sleep. What was particularly notable was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, in particular the concierge (Ramon), who guided us through the available sights and eateries in Chicago, which saved us considerable time in research. Chicago is a fascinating city, with all the modernity and dynamism of Manhattan, but without the grit or the slightly abraisive denizens of that island. We found all Chigacoans we encountered to be pleasant and engaging. However, Chicago is built on two levels, the lower level being under all the main roads that are elevated and therefore walking anywhere in the lower section is far less pleasant than on the upper section. I mention this because the main entrance to the Gwen hotel is on the lower level so when you exit onto the street it's advisable to climb the stairs around the corner to go up to 'street level'. Also, if you're not going to the hotel by taxi but by public transport (as we did) you'll have to carry your luggage down the stairs from the upper level where the bus stops. Additionally, the arrangement of the lifts in the hotel is a little irritating (and confusing to start with) because the lift from the main entrance doesn't go to the levels where the bedrooms are. The main reception is on the fifth floor so you have to go to reception and then walk to another bank of lifts that take you onward to the bedrooms and conference rooms. The Gwen seems to be a business hotel first and foremost and so there is a lot of activity and many people in the building for conferences and exhibitions. The terrace area by the bar affords a pleasant view of the cityscape, but there are two huge TV screens that perpetually show sport, so many of the guests on the terrace are there to watch a game. However it seems that there is no public place in Chicago that doesn't have TV screens on all the time, showing sport (the city seems to be obsessed with sport). Every restaurant we went to had multiple screens on, even high-end establishments. To a Brit this is weird because its only pubs and bars in my country that have these intrusive, mind-numbing displays. We enjoyed our stay at the Gwen and can recommend it for a pleasant stay as a tourist. its location is good for reaching many parts of the city and public transport is cheap and extensive. If we return to Chicago we will definitely book to stay there again.

I stayed here in 2006 and looked forward to coming back again. Everything in the hotel was fine. The location was superb. I was upgraded to a high-rise suite overlooking Michigan Avenue. Although there was street noise, it was not very disturbing. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was perfect and luxurious with makeup. The breakfast was good and I didn't try to eat in the restaurant. To compliment it has reached the same standard as its Asian sister hotel, I will still go to this hotel in Chicago.
