Sandy Beach Bungalows is located on the east side of Koh Rong Samloem, which is a very quiet and isolated island. We took a ferry from Sihanoukville for Koh Rong Sanloem and got down at Saracen Bay. There are several companies operating ferry services to Koh Rong Samloem. Though the water is very clear and clean, the beach is not well maintained. Found lot of garbage piled up in some places. As there are only 3 resorts in this side of the island, they should have some common waste management mechanism so as to ensure that the beach is kept clean. I heard generators running throughout day and night, which creates a lot of sound and air pollution also. We stayed in the wooden cottages by the side of the beach and very close to the waters. It had a room with a small sit out. Bathroom was big, but, no hot water was available. Toiletries are provided. Bathroom had cement floors paved with stones and sand and it was not clean. I was worried small reptiles if any, might enter through the small gaps in the bathroom walls. Evening time, you should be very cautious while opening the cottage doors as mosquitoes might enter the room. Besides, I found it very difficult to close the door. Restaurant in Sandy Resorts didn’t have many options and the breakfast was also below average. We mostly had food and drinks from the nearby resorts Tube’s or Bodega, which were excellent, though they were bit expensive. Bodega has an excellent bar with a wonderful sea view. The staff are friendly and always smiling, but, many could not speak English. They also didn’t provide any information on the activities around. We got all advice on the beach activities from the travel desk in Tube’s Resort. Location of the resort and the private beach is the attraction. It would have been a great place, if they had a good restaurant and bar coupled with better service. They need to do the cottages also a bit more.
