This experience is truly unique. Best time to visit The best time to visit is from December to the end of February. During this period, the glacier is at its most beautiful, and it's relatively less crowded. Take advantage of the low tourist season and experience its unique charm. Travel tips If you plan to visit Laigu Glacier, keep these tips in mind. First, the glacial lake only freezes with thick ice in January and February, allowing you to walk directly from the lake to the glacier. At other times, it may be closed, so choose your travel time wisely. For transportation, you can fly directly to Chamdo. If you're concerned about the high altitude, fly to Nyingchi or Lhasa first, then join a tour, rent a car, carpool, or drive yourself to acclimate to the altitude. The lighting is excellent in the morning, and the blue ice looks stunning on sunny days, making for great photos. For accommodation, we recommend staying in Baxoi or Ranwu Town on the second day and returning to Bomi on the third day. Bring or rent crampons, as walking on ice can be challenging. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses, face mask, sunscreen, and high-calorie snacks. At the scenic area entrance, you'll need to walk or ride a horse for about 20 minutes, with horse rides costing around CNY 100 per person. The UV rays are strong, and it's quite sunny during the day, so a down jacket should suffice. Avoid venturing inside the glacier for safety reasons. Local cuisine is also unique, such as Tibetan butter tea, which is rich and creamy, warming and refreshing. Yak jerky is chewy and flavorful, becoming more delicious with each bite. Along the way, you can try barley pancakes, which are fragrant and crispy. There are many nearby attractions, such as Ranwu Lake, which is close by. The clear blue lake and snow-capped mountains create a stunning landscape. Midui Glacier is also worth a visit, with glaciers, forests, and lakes forming a harmonious natural painting.
