Langya Mountain, a natural treasure hidden in Chuzhou

“The city of Chuzhou is surrounded by mountains. The peaks to the southwest are covered in lush forests and beautiful valleys. The most magnificent of these is Langya Mountain.” Langya Mountain, as described by Ouyang Xiu, is steeped in history and culture, and full of praise for its natural beauty. “Autumn scenery invites a leisurely stroll, and mountain walks are never tiring.” On November 30, 2024, in the midst of autumn, I finally embarked on a trip to Langya Mountain. The scenery was breathtaking, and I was captivated by its beauty. As I walked along the winding mountain path, I could hear the rustling of fallen leaves beneath my feet, as if autumn was whispering in my ear. The mountain stream continued to flow, but the water seemed to have taken on the colors of autumn, reflecting the surrounding scenery and becoming even clearer and cooler. After a few hundred steps, I arrived at the famous Zuiweng Pavilion. The ancient pavilion looked even more elegant in its autumn attire. Sitting inside, I closed my eyes and imagined Ouyang Xiu and his friends drinking, singing, and writing poetry. The carefree spirit of “the old man’s interest is not in the wine, but in the mountains and rivers” seemed to seep into my heart with the autumn breeze. Continuing up the mountain, I reached Langya Temple. The temple gate was solemn and majestic, and the ancient trees inside were adorned with red prayer ribbons, gently swaying in the autumn wind and adding a touch of life to the tranquil temple. Beyond Langya Temple, I caught sight of Shenxiu Lake. At this time of year, the lake resembled a jade embedded in the mountains, with its calm surface reflecting the colorful autumn hues of the surrounding peaks. Climbing further up the mountain, I reached the summit at Nantianmen. From the top, I could see the distant mountains stretching into the horizon, their colors deepening and lightening in the autumn sunlight. The orange, red, and green hues intertwined to create a breathtaking view. As I descended the mountain, my steps slowed with reluctance. The setting sun cast a warm glow through the trees, as if the world was draped in a warm cloak. In the evening, I visited Sihe Road in Chuzhou, where the streets were lit with colorful lights and the snack street was filled with the unique atmosphere of Chuzhou. The driver who took me back urged me to return in winter, when the mountain would have a different charm. I eagerly anticipated the snowfall, and the chance to see Langya Mountain covered in snow.
