Don't miss the "Research Institute Exhibition Center" when visiting the Mogao Caves

Those who have been to the Mogao Caves know that there are too many caves, but only a limited number are open to the public. The Cultural Relics Protection and Research Institute is very protective of the special caves. Even ordinary caves have corresponding strict and rigorous protection measures. Most of the time, the caves are dimly lit, and the time spent inside is short, so we don't have time to appreciate the exquisite murals and statues. If you want more, don't miss the Dunhuang Grottoes Cultural Relics Protection and Research Exhibition Center, which is separated from the Mogao Caves Scenic Area by a river. The exhibition center has replicas of 8 caves from the Mogao Caves and Yulin Caves, including my favorite Cave 220. In the replica caves, you can fully appreciate the charm of the grottoes and admire the murals, statues, and architectural styles. In addition to the replica caves, the exhibition center also has exhibition halls dedicated to explaining the architectural deconstruction of the Mogao Caves and the statues. One side of the hall on the first floor also displays the history and development of the Mogao Caves and related crafts, which is very informative.
