Chenggong Wanxichong Huilong Temple - A Temple Built on a Dragon Vein

Wanxichong Village in Chenggong, Kunming, is an important production area for the "gentleman of pears" Baozhu pears. The reason why Wanxichong was built here is quite mysterious. The ancestors believed that Wanxichong Village was a treasure land of dragon veins, with Wuzhua Mountain in the southeast corner of the village as the dragon's tail, extending eastward through Ma'anshan, Jianfeng Mountain, Suochuanzishan, and Sushatan mountains for more than ten kilometers as the dragon's body, then turning westward and southward for several kilometers as the head and neck, and a round mountain (Moujiayingjian Mountain) in front as the hydrangea, followed by a long oval stone mountain, which was regarded as a person dancing with a hydrangea and playing with a dragon. The village site was selected at the midpoint from the dragon's head (Moujiayingxiaojian Mountain) to the dragon's tail Wuzhua Mountain, which is now Wanxichong. Later, a temple was built at the west entrance of the village, named "Huilong Temple." Every year, people in the village would worship the dragon at the east entrance of the village, and over time, the place where the dragon was worshiped at the east entrance of the village was called "Jibailong." The history of Wanxichong Huilong Temple can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty. Despite wars and social changes, it still retains traces of history. The architecture and decoration of the temple also show its long history and exquisite craftsmanship. In Huilong Temple, there is an octagonal pavilion built in the tenth year of Daoguang, and the stones around the pavilion are engraved with intricate patterns. The wooden carvings in the temple are exquisite and well-preserved. The stone steps are simple and heavy, showing the accumulation of history. The temple also retains Qing Dynasty fine brushwork and light color murals, showing the superb ancient painting art.
