Whispers in the Quiet Garden: A Zen Time at Sanzen-in

Day 1: In the early morning, I took a ride from downtown Kyoto to Ohara. The fresh mountain air was invigorating. Upon arriving at Sanzen-in, I was greeted by a moss-covered path flanked by ancient trees exuding a sense of history. Entering the temple grounds, the serene beauty of the garden took my breath away, especially the Ojo Gokuraku-in Hall, which radiated an aura of solemnity and tranquility. The moss in the garden spread like a green carpet, with statues scattered throughout, blending seamlessly with nature. I sat quietly for a moment, feeling as if time had slowed down. For lunch, I chose a local restaurant nearby and enjoyed a warm bowl of yudofu (tofu hot pot). In the afternoon, I strolled through the small village, admiring the rural scenery, and ended the day with a bowl of matcha at a teahouse, concluding a relaxing day. Day 2: The second day's itinerary began at Mount Hiei. The cable car ride offered a panoramic view of Kyoto. The grandeur of Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei contrasted sharply with the tranquility of Sanzen-in, giving a sense of different religious atmospheres. At noon, I dined at a mountain restaurant, savoring the local specialty cuisine, simple yet heartfelt. In the afternoon, I returned to Ohara to explore the small temples and residences around Sanzen-in, feeling the leisurely pace of this land. By dusk, Sanzen-in under the setting sun was even more serene and beautiful, leaving a deep sense of peace in my heart. The two-day journey allowed me to find a moment of respite in my busy life. The quiet garden and Zen atmosphere of Sanzen-in will remain the softest green memory in my mind.
