Year of the Snake Limited Edition Yu Garden Lantern Festival

The Yu Garden Lantern Festival is one of the most popular traditional folk activities in Shanghai during the Spring Festival, with a rich history and cultural connotations. Since 1995, it has been held annually at the Yu Garden Mall. The 2025 Lantern Festival will be held from January 1 to February 12, lasting 42 days. The theme of the lantern festival is "All Things Beautiful, All Beings Wonderful," continuing the "Shanhai Qiyu Ji" jungle chapter. There are four gates of time and space on site, such as the "Gate of Life" symbolizing the coexistence of humans and nature, and the "Gate of Prosperity" symbolizing prosperity. There are also five themed scenes, such as the Tree of Life in the Golden Square, which shows the coexistence of all things; Ninghui Road, which transforms into a butterfly valley, creating the artistic conception of "carefree and unfettered, Zhuang Zhou dreaming of a butterfly"; the central square, which presents the lively jungle scene of "harmony between heaven, earth, and people, and the golden snake offering auspiciousness"; the Nine-Curved Bridge, which is like a jungle paradise full of vitality; and the Yu Garden Old Street, which shows the 30-year history of the Yu Garden Lantern Festival. In addition, the "More Than Lanterns - 30 Years of Yu Garden Lantern Festival and Chinese Lantern Art Exhibition" is also held simultaneously. The exhibition selects 13 ancient lantern treasures from the museum's collection, as well as representative works of intangible cultural heritage masters from eight places across the country. Lantern festival tickets are divided into regular day tickets and peak day tickets, which need to be purchased online. The Yu Garden Lantern Festival combines traditional folk customs with modern technology to bring visitors a colorful and magical New Year feast.
