2024 Fuzhou Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
Fuzhou has a style typical of an ancient city. The Minjiang River passes through the city and, because of the Banyan trees planted all around, it is also called ‘City of Banyans’. Numerous famous historical sites and ruins encircled by the clear water and verdant mountains, historical heritage with deep cultural associations such as Lin Zexu Memorial Hall, Sanfang Qixiang, and Jinshan Temple, and complementary natural landscapes like Yunding and Gushan in Fuzhou allow you to fully enjoy the beautiful culture. The delicious food of Fuzhou is even pleasing to the eye as well as the palate. In addition to the famous Fujian dish called ‘Buddha jumps over the wall,’ Fuzhou also has hugely delicious fish balls, delectable meat dumplings, and many other fine snacks. The food at the seafood stalls and barbecue establishments on Haitan Island is fresh, delicious, and sure to excite your taste buds.

The ancient building is solemn and elegant, the three-story brick-wood structure exudes the charm of the years. The arcade design is unique, and the carved railings are exquisite and delicate.
.

A lazy person's must-have!!! Fuzhou trip for two days and one night, per capita 200
Day 1️⃣ Daming Food Street➡️Sanfang Qixiang
Day2️⃣ Shangxiahang➡️ Lin Zexu Memorial Hall➡️ Sanfang Qixiang
📍 Daming Food Street: We entered from the north gate and saw Tangchao Tangshui Shop. There were many people and the shop was a bit small (a little expensive, about 40-50 yuan per serving); there were many delicious Lao Hua on the opposite side, you can try them; there was licorice guava further in, remember to choose the one next to Wallace! Finally, there was a Dafa Meat Slices at the east gate of Sanfang Qixiang, about 200 meters from the south gate! It was super delicious, I ordered three servings, and I highly recommend the Golden Soup!
📍 Sanfang Qixiang: It's a long way from Daming Food Street to the Heart Tree. If you leave from the Lin Zexu Memorial Hall, it's about 200-300 meters away. The meat swallow in Sanfang Qixiang is very delicious, especially the sauce that comes with it. It's very tender and fresh. The fish balls in Fuzhou are really big, and one is almost as big as 2/1 of my fist. One person can't finish a serving.
After the whole process on the first day, I was already very tired, so I went back to the hotel to sleep.
📍 Shangxiahang: We went directly to the location of the hairpin flower by navigation. There might be nothing in front, but the further you go with the crowd, the more obvious the Fuzhou characteristic architectural style becomes. There is also a famous Minnan teahouse inside, which is also good for taking pictures.
📍 Lin Zexu Memorial Hall: You can enter directly without an appointment. I personally think it's worth going in. There are many popular science exhibitions about the dangers of drugs⚠️ and history. I recommend taking children to see it. The four-fruit soup opposite the east gate of the Lin Zexu Memorial Hall is very delicious, especially the taro mud with coconut juice and jelly. It's very refreshing.
🚗 Transportation: You can take the subway, Didi, or scan a single ride. You can also walk around the city, but I recommend doing it after dinner at night, otherwise it will be too hot🥵
🏨 Accommodation: You can stay near Sanfang Qixiang, where everything is close, or near the Liberation Bridge to see the night view at night🌃
👔 Dress: I recommend taking more Chinese-style clothes or cheongsams, which are very good for taking pictures in Shangxiahang.

Fuzhou! Living here makes me feel so happy every day
Room prices fluctuate with seasons and holidays.
Dear friends, please be rational when planting grass.
🏡Name: Fuzhou Academy Residence (Sanfang Qixiang Branch)
💟It's really close to Sanfang Qixiang.
It's just a few minutes' walk away, making it very convenient for sightseeing. The entire homestay is transformed from a top scholar's residence, exuding an antique charm. 🎐 As soon as you enter the courtyard, you are greeted by a sense of historical depth and an elegant atmosphere. The three-entry courtyard layout, flying eaves, ancient wood, lush green trees, and the serene bamboo forest 🎋 make you feel like you've traveled back in time. Whether sitting idly in the courtyard or strolling around, you feel an extraordinary sense of peace. This place is truly a hidden paradise in the bustling city. 🏠
💟The rooms are exquisitely and warmly decorated.
The furniture in the room is of a retro style, perfectly matching the old house's temperament. Moreover, the facilities are very modern, with air conditioning, smart door locks, hairdryers, and more. To my surprise, there is a small tea corner 🍵 in the room, equipped with exquisite tea sets. After a tiring day of sightseeing, sitting in the room and brewing a pot of Fujian's specialty jasmine tea is incredibly relaxing. Although I didn't stay in a hot spring room, I heard that some rooms here have private hot springs ♨️, which are both private and comfortable.
💟Breakfast is in the form of a nine-grid box with a variety of options.
The nutritional balance is also very reasonable, and the taste is excellent. You can dine in the courtyard or in your room. There is also a thoughtful late-night snack; I received a warm bowl of chicken soup 🍲 that night, which felt very considerate. The service staff here are all very friendly, from the front desk to the housekeepers, making you feel at home ❤️. Any issues are promptly resolved.
💟The lacquer art here is truly beautiful.
As a space embellishment, it enhances the artistic atmosphere of the entire homestay 🖼️. Additionally, the homestay has an interactive reading space with many books available for borrowing. In your leisure time, you can read 📖 and feel the sunlight on you, enjoying the tranquility of time. Another point is that the homestay provides Hanfu and oil-paper umbrellas as props, so friends who like taking photos can change outfits and take pictures 📸 to their heart's content. Super photogenic!!!

Gave up on Quanzhou~ A romantic 3-day itinerary in a less-known small city in Fujian with few people
Fell in love with the romance of Fuzhou😌, sunset speed drive, stranded giant ship, flower hairpin spirit walk, 🌳heart-shaped tree, each with a surprise. Attractions are free, and the subway🚇 is also free on weekends in the city, the people of Fuzhou are so happy.
Spent 3 days this time, departing from Guangzhou, arriving on Friday night, and leaving on Monday afternoon, both delicious😋 and fun.
🔹Travel Arrangement
D1 Hotel--Shangxiahang--Youth Club--Liberation Bridge--Yantai Mountain--Lurei Spirit Walk--Return
A very stylish one-day citywalk route in Fuzhou city center, take the subway🚇 to the full Jiangnan-style Shangxiahang, 🚶🏻♀️then walk to the next few attractions all the way to Yantai Mountain, 🏛️as romantic as foreign streets, super photogenic📸.
✅To see the Fuzhou spirit walk, I checked the time and place in advance, there are more at the beginning of the year.
D2 Hotel--Sanfang Qixiang (flower hairpin)--Daming Food Street--Gushan Cable Car
Sanfang Qixiang is the old street of Fuzhou, 🏘️you must walk into the alleys, very flavorful. ☝🏻There are quite a few flower hairpin shops here, it is recommended to make an appointment in advance, get dressed up, and you can stroll and take photos. The Gushan cable car🚡 has more people going downhill, it is recommended to take the cable car up the mountain to watch the sunset at five or six o'clock🌇, and walk down the mountain🚶🏻♀️ or after dark, otherwise, the queue is very long!
D3 Rent a car for a day of sea viewing in Lianjiang
Hotel--Tongxin Village--Qiguanding--Geha Village--Changle Airport (return the car)--Return trip
The sea view from Qiguanding is really stunning, 🚗drive to Baiyun Temple, park at the city gate, and walk up the mountain. The stranded giant ship is in Geha Village, you can stop when you see it on the roadside🚢, the sea in Fuzhou is too good for photos. Finally, drive directly to the airport to return to Guangzhou.
✅There is a specific sea viewing guide on the main page, you can check it out.
🍜Food
Sanfang Qixiang
Lin's Lao Hua, stuffed eggs🥚, peanut soup are all good, a snack shop with a wide variety of options.

This is a brief overview of a three-day travel guide for Fujian, the specific itinerary can be adjusted according to personal preferences and time arrangements.
Fuzhou, a severely underrated treasure of a tourist city
Here, banyan trees shade the streets, and the aroma of tea is everywhere.
With its three mountains, two towers, and a river,
This is Fuzhou, half bustling life, half poetic charm.
The romance here always catches you off guard.
Ancient temples, teahouses, lanes, forests, sunset cable cars...
It boasts both cultural richness and scenic banyan charm, great for viewing and photography📷
If you come to Fuzhou, you definitely shouldn't miss out~
1️⃣ Gushan
From the stone steps at the foot of the mountain passing through 'Seven Pavilions', to the lookout tower at the summit where you can see the panoramic view of Fuzhou, taking the sunset cable car down the mountain at dusk is simply too romantic~
2️⃣ Fuzhou Trail
Fuzhou's urban forest trail, also China's first steel-structured aerial forest trail, connects five parks. Strolling here, watching the sunset glow over the mountains, especially the night view, is very atmospheric.
3️⃣ Yantai Mountain
'Evening glow over the green mountains, high hills and low rivers' - this place is Fuzhou's artistic landmark, with foreign consulates, stone churches, and traditional gardens, also known as 'Little Gulangyu'.

📃Tips
🔶Pingtan Island is the city with the highest frequency of blue tears in China, with the peak season from April to June, generally starting after 7 pm, and most often occurring in the early morning. Locations where blue tears appear: Changjiang'ao, Jingsha, Longwangtou, Dongmeicun, Tannan Bay, etc. You can follow the 'Changyou Pingtan' mini program or 'Pingtan Blue Tears' gzh to check the forecast in advance. However, chasing blue tears is still a matter of luck, and I hope everyone gets their wish~
🔶The attractions in Pingtan are quite far apart, so it's more convenient to drive. Be sure to pay attention to the weather when you come to Pingtan Island, as it's only beautiful on sunny days~
🔶To reach the top of Qidacun Flag Peak, you can choose to walk up the mountain or start climbing. Walking up the mountain requires climbing 1800 steps from Qidacun; we drove up the mountain, navigated to Baiyun Temple, and tried to park the car as high as possible to save a lot of walking.
🔶For the Fuzhou Trail, it is recommended to enter from entrance 3 and exit from entrance 5. If you don't want to take the roundabout path, you can also go directly up the stairs to the top, which looks very nice when the lights are on at night.
The upcoming Fuzhou can be called the ceiling of domestic travel

It's not Shaoxing, it's Fuzhou
It's not Shaoxing, it's Fuzhou
I can also go boating on the lake in my great Fuzhou!
I had no intention of being like Jiangnan, but Jiangnan has entered my heart.
Sitting on the Fuzhou boat decorated with lotus flowers, facing the spring breeze and shuttling on the Yingfu Bridge and Rongyue Lake of the ancient town, going to a spring feast together, is the romance of Fuzhou people on weekends, right?
The Min-style buildings on both sides of the strait are endless, high and low, even the willow trees on the shore that have just sprouted new buds have become gentle, and the swallows gently glide over the bow of the boat, afraid of disturbing my thoughts. At that moment, I thought I had broken into a landscape painting... Just as I was intoxicated between the mountains and rivers, the petals in the sky broke the calm picture, accompanied by the beginning of the flower tide festival, the full screen of Jiangnan atmosphere is coming
Witness the nature under the thousand-year-old lychee tree---The Zen of Fuzhou Xichan Ancient Temple
Xichan Temple, founded in the Tang Dynasty, was named Changqing Temple during the Five Dynasties and has been used ever since. Because there were Zen temples in all directions in Fuzhou in the old days, Changqing Temple was located in the western suburbs, so it was commonly known as "Xichan Temple". And Zen, Buddha said "the original face, the nirvana wonderful heart", is the method of becoming enlightened by seeing the nature in tranquility.
Xichan Temple has been burned and rebuilt over the centuries, and the existing layout is slightly different from that of general temples. Entering the mountain gate, there is a nine-curved bridge with the layout of Jiangnan garden and a solemn and compassionate giant Guanyin statue. The silhouette of the Baoen Pagoda is faintly visible in the release pond, and under the cover of the pine forest and lychee trees is the solemnity of the Buddha Hall and dining hall. Walking along the nine-curved bridge, crossing the arch bridge, is like crossing the Naihe Bridge and saying goodbye to the past. Standing under the Baoen Pagoda, the temples behind the pagoda are ethereal and pure, the Heavenly King Hall, the Daxiong Treasure Hall, the Sutra Hall, the Jade Buddha Tower, the Guanyin Pavilion, all exude a kind of tranquility, as if there is a pure land in the far place where you are going. Close your eyes in front of the Buddha, and your mood will be renewed. Perhaps this is the meaning of Zen, everyone will have their own Zen.
The place where Xichan Temple is located is anciently known as Yishan. The lychee of Yishan started in the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Song Dynasty. Therefore, lychee trees were planted all over the temple when Xichan Temple was built. Lychee in Buddhism implies "perfect wisdom and unobstructed Buddha path". When the cicadas are singing and the lychees are ripe, eating three hundred lychees a day in the Zen temple, in addition to the sweetness that flows into the mouth, there is also the Buddha's intention that seeps into the heart.
The thousand-year-old lychee tree has witnessed the ups and downs of Xichan Temple and also understood the Buddha's nature of a thousand years. On such an afternoon in winter, although it is not the season of lychee, you can sit quietly under the lychee tree facing the direction of the Buddha, let your restless heart calm down, say goodbye to 2023, and reconcile with your past self.
Fuzhou | Rongcheng Culture & European Elegance, the fusion charm of Taihe Kempinski
| Rongcheng Culture & European Elegance, the fusion charm of Taihe Kempinski.
This is my first time in Fuzhou. Compared with Xiamen in the same province, Fuzhou, as the provincial capital, seems to have a lower presence.
However, this trip to Fuzhou made me feel that it is an underestimated travel destination.
The Fuzhou Taihe Kempinski Hotel where I stayed left a deep impression on me. The state of fortune is well-deserved.
✅【Location】
The Taihe Kempinski Hotel is located in the center of the bustling business district of the East Second Ring.
📍The transportation is very convenient:
- About 10 minutes drive from the train station
- About 40 minutes drive from the airport
👉🏻Surrounded by high-end office buildings and shopping centers, you can satisfy your desire for eating, drinking, playing, shopping and leisure anytime and anywhere.
✅【Room: Newly upgraded executive room】
The design of the hotel's public area has a lot of local cultural flavor of Rongcheng.
👉🏻The crystal chandelier in the lobby, the shape is derived from the city flower of Fuzhou-Jasmine.
👉🏻The giant screen, using the technique of lacquerware, interprets the beautiful scenery of Fuzhou's city, river, lake, and mountain.
👉🏻The installation art inspired by sailboats pays tribute to the pioneering spirit of Fujian tradition.
As for the room, we just checked into the newly upgraded executive room.
The area is 40 square meters, and the decoration style is elegant and exquisite in European style.
Equipped with:
1️⃣Capsule coffee machine
2️⃣Dyson hair dryer (complete set)
3️⃣Italian Ferragamo toiletries
4️⃣Free mini bar, tea set
5️⃣Comfortable chaise longue
Staying in the executive room can also enjoy executive courtesy.
Afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the executive lounge every day. We sat lazily until dusk, admiring the beautiful sunset.
Then it's Happy Hour, with snacks and simple meals, and a few more drinks, the "happy hour" is really worthy of the name.
✅【Food: Chinese food is particularly outstanding】
The food at Taihe Kempinski also impressed me.
👉🏻Tai Fu Restaurant, just welcomed a new chef, brought a lot of new dishes. The taste is in line with the light and fresh taste that Fujian people like, and it also incorporates some Cantonese and Huaiyang cooking methods, and the products are quite good.
👉🏻K Coffee, the all-day dining restaurant, has many well-known local snacks in Fujian in the buffet breakfast, which must be tasted.
👉🏻The food gallery next door is a rare beer bar in Fuzhou with its own microbrewery equipment, and the craft beer tastes good!
❤️Finally, I want to mention in particular that the service of Taihe Kempinski Hotel is indeed like a spring breeze. All the staff I met were super enthusiastic to provide services proactively, and it is indeed the TOP in luxury hotels in Fuzhou.
Fuzhou Taihe Kempinski Hotel
Hilton's consistent quality assurance, definitely worth the money
In the city of banyan trees, the most prosperous and modern area is undoubtedly the central business district on the north bank of the Minjiang River. The Sandi Center, which is part of Fuzhou's 'three-piece suit', is located here, with the Hilton Hotel in Fuzhou as its supporting hotel.
Design
The skyscraper's cloud-top design is very eye-catching. With the 'Maritime Silk Road' as its cultural background, it is situated on the banks of the Minjiang River, resembling a sailboat braving the wind and waves. The top of the building is adorned with elements of ancient 'official hats', which are unique and eye-catching.
Rooms
There are 331 rooms (suites). The river-view room I stayed in this time has a regular layout, the decoration continues the public area style, the transition is natural and brisk, I have always liked this kind of carpet that looks comfortable; the scenery outside the window is beautiful, the mountains and rivers are picturesque, the national river is like a jade belt passing through the city, because there is no obstruction in front, you can see Yantai Mountain and even part of Mawei, children who like high floors are very happy.
Food
The Chinese restaurant on the 39th floor is also worth visiting. On Saturday night, the walk-in area was full. Hilton has been doing chef seasons, allowing its hotel chefs to study and learn. The Weixianfang now produces Min and Yue cuisines that are already well-cooked. For a family feast, the dishes here are not only exquisite in shape, but also taste good, which makes children applaud.
Facilities
The fitness center on the 41st floor is equipped with a high-altitude swimming pool and a fully equipped gym. Next to the swimming pool is a floor-to-ceiling glass, creating a feeling of water and sky connection, and a triangular viewing pool is also very thoughtful; the gym is relatively high-end in the same level, and there is a high-altitude yoga room next to it, downstairs is the city reception room, along the river is a 5.5 km North Garden Greenway, outdoor exercise is also possible.
Service
The overall feeling is that the hotel's service training is very professional, from the first floor concierge to the lobby guide, front desk check-in, restaurant staff to the gym staff, the service is enthusiastic and professional, the hotel management should be operating with care.
TheWild in the Wild•Cloud Water Stream | A hidden paradise in the mountains
🍁🍁🍁Autumn expresses its romance here🍁🍁🍁
It is said that autumn in Jiufeng Village, Shoushan Township, is already in full color. We found the "TheWild in the Wild•Cloud Water Stream Inn" which can be reached by walking from the entrance of the village.
Never expected that such a fairyland is hidden in a place 40 minutes drive from Fuzhou. As soon as the car drove into the courtyard of the inn, we saw a full view of red maple leaves🍁, and the autumn-colored water fir🍂 on the side set off a strong warmth. Isn't this the natural Mlad color scheme🟤🟠🟡?
☑️We chose the 'Mountain' room by the lake, and when we opened the floor-to-ceiling windows on the terrace, the entire maple forest and pond were in front of us.
.The inn has 8 guest rooms, overall it is Chinese garden style. You can book individually or charter the whole place. The main building has a restaurant, entertainment room (with pool table and mahjong table), tea room, and there is an outdoor camping area where you can barbecue, fish, make tea around the stove, or organize other outdoor activities.
The 'Dulin' and 'Furong' rooms have Shoushan stones unique to the local area.
🍵🌰🥜We made an appointment for tea around the stove on the bridge in the lake in the afternoon, sitting in the center of the lake, basking in the warm sun, surrounded by colorful maple leaves, it's really relaxing. The photos are also very beautiful.
The steward of Cloud Water Stream is very enthusiastic, and took good care of us by answering all our questions.
Day2️⃣On the second day, you can reach Jiufeng Village by walking along the stream in the village. The autumn scenery here has a unique style. You can stroll around for half a day, and you can also have a pot-full lunch in the village.
If you have time in the afternoon, you can walk towards Jiufeng Temple and spend 2 hours on a leisurely hike in 'Wild Man Valley'.
📍Address: No. 40, Jiufeng Village, Shoushan Township, Fuzhou
October, South Hou Street, Fuzhou
South Hou Street in Fuzhou starts from the west at Yangqiao intersection, and ends in the south at the intersection of Jibi Lane and Macau Road, with a total length of about 1000 meters. It is the central axis of the 'Three Lanes and Seven Alleys' in Fuzhou city. There are seven alleys on its east side and three lanes on its west side. It was the main commercial street from the rise of the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys in Fuzhou to the Republic of China period, with merchants gathered from north to south. South Hou Street is the central axis of the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys. The renovated South Hou Street will be full of ancient charm, and the width of the road will reach 12 meters, including a 7-meter-wide pedestrian street. South Hou Street, which starts from Yangqiao Road and ends at Jibi Road, is only 634 meters long. It is a leisure and cultural commercial street that combines tradition and modernity. Unfortunately, the old South Hou Street and some of the surrounding buildings were demolished from 2007 to 2009, and most of the existing buildings are replicas. With the construction of the new South Hou Street, many modern businesses have also entered this ancient area.
Now it is mainly about eating and drinking, which is quite suitable for the new generation.
Recommendations for visiting Linpu Taishan Palace
Since the Five Dynasties, the Lin family has gathered and lived together, gradually prospering, hence the name 'Linpu', which has a history of a thousand years. Here, there was once a brilliant achievement of 'seven subjects and eight scholars, three generations and five books'.
Taishan Xinggong is the smallest of the emperor's palaces, and was the palace where the last emperors of the Song Dynasty, Zhao Shi and Zhao Bing, fled. After the Yuan soldiers captured Fuzhou, the people of Linpu changed the Song Emperor's Pingshan Pavilion into a community temple, called 'Taishan Palace', to avoid investigation and preserve it. When entering the palace, don't miss the caisson above the stage.
Lianjiang Academy is the only well-preserved ancient academy of the Song Dynasty in Fuzhou, where the famous Neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Xi and his disciples once lectured. The door wall of the academy is engraved with the four characters 'Lianjiang Academy'.
The Lin family temple of the world's preserved Shangshu is a wooden structure, composed of a gate tower, a stage, a patio, and a corridor. As soon as you enter the temple, you will be shocked by the plaques of the second place scholars, scholars, and literary leaders in the temple. Now this family temple often serves as a stage on important occasions.
Some ancient sites in the village have not yet been opened, but they have also reduced the traces of commercialization, greatly preserving the simple folk customs, revealing peace and tranquility everywhere. Every household has a peace charm of 'Linpu Hejing Peace Tower Association'.
You can take the subway line 4/6 to Linpu Subway Station Exit C, and walk about 1 kilometer to get there. Please note that the ancient village is open all day, but the opening hours of indoor places such as academies and former residences are 9:00-16:30.

Xiao Huang Building
The iconic building of Huang Alley is the Xiao Huang Building. It is said that the old house where Huang Pu studied when he was young is near Xiao Huang Building. Lin Zexu's elder brother, Liang Zhangju, who served as the governor of Jiangsu, carried out a comprehensive renovation of Huang Pu's old house during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, and built the West Flower Hall Xiao Huang Building, as well as the matching garden house Dongyuan on the east side of the old house. The flower hall is a two-story building, three rooms wide and five pillars deep, with a through-bucket wooden frame, a double-slope roof, pink walls and black tiles, upturned eaves, dragons and phoenixes painted on the beams, and the doors and windows are made of nanmu, and the workmanship is exquisite and the carving is exquisite.
