Encountering Snowfall During a March Trip to Japan! The Snowy Hida Takayama Old Town.
One of the goals of this trip was to visit the World Heritage Site Shirakawa-go. Although driving in the snow was a bit troublesome and colder than expected, the scenery blanketed in white snow was well worth it!
The old town of Takayama is less than an hour's drive from Shirakawa-go, and it's definitely worth adding this spot to your itinerary. Strolling through the century-old shops on the old street is a delightful experience. There are many handicraft shops, restaurants, cafes, etc., all great places to enjoy the snow. At the end of the old street, there's a red bridge that looks even more beautiful under the snowscape. Don't miss out if you like to take photos!

The Forge Bridge is a must-see in central Japan. The red bridge has a great feeling.
Come to Gifu Prefecture in central Japan, especially Takayama City, which is full of antiques.
Takayama Hida Old Town is one of the attractions not to be missed.
The Blacksmith Bridge next to the entrance is a super classic red bridge.
It is in sharp contrast with the wooden Japanese-style buildings in the old streets of Takayama. The completely different style is meant to give you a strong style.
In fact, what is really unique is a bridge over Miyagawa River.
On the left and right sides of the Forge Bridge are the Miyagawa Asaichi Takayama Old Street (Sanden Building Complex: Kamisan, Kamini, and Ichino), Honmachi Street, and Kokubunji Street.
What's special is that there is a lane for cars on the bridge. The most special thing is the "Forging Monster Bronze Statue" on the left and right.
The beautiful scenery of the entire river is amazing. I will definitely be unforgettable after seeing it once.
It’s so beautiful especially in winter. It’s worth coming back several times to take photos!

Hida Takayama refers to another historical area in Gifu. Hida Takayama is located in the Takayama City situated in the northern part of the prefecture, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Gifu. Many foreign tourists love the authentic atmosphere of the picturesque castle town. There are some old streets where well-preserved Japanese traditional sake breweries and houses, dating back from the Edo period through the Meiji period, can be visited. Most of the buildings are currently used as gift shops, restaurants, cafes, and other facilities offering several kinds of experiences for tourists. It is also a perfect place to enjoy local specialties such as Hida beef.
There is a walking trail of about 3km in length, called the Higashiyama Walking Course through Takayama’s fascinating townscape and along the former Takayama Castle. Hida Takayama developed as a lively town around the castle, though in the present day you can only see the remains of the castle in Shiroyama Park.

Hida Takayama is known as Little Kyoto.
In addition to its nostalgic old streets, there are also innovative food shops and addictive Hida beef.
Accommodation options range from traditional hot spring hotels to modern design hotels.
(If you want to indulge in Hida beef, it's recommended to find a hotel with a kitchen and buy meat from Maruaki Meat Shop, which is both affordable and delicious.)
In the morning, you can experience the local life and enthusiasm at the morning market.
The attractions in Takayama are very concentrated, so you hardly need to rely on transportation.
You can spend a day leisurely exploring Takayama.

Stroll through the traditional streets of Hida Takayama.
The atmosphere of the Edo period is still very much alive, making you feel like you've traveled back in time.
You can enjoy various local specialties while walking around.
Hida beef sushi with bamboo charcoal salt, ginger soy sauce, and gunkan-maki, as well as Takayama pudding.
There are also many sake breweries where you can taste local sake.
Toyama has also been popular as a town of medicine since the Edo period.
At Minowa Pharmacy, a long-established store founded in 1921, you can buy colorful and retro-packaged medicines by the bag.
The names are also very interesting!
Hida Takayama is a town that is fun to walk around, so you can enjoy it from the bright hours of the day to the time when the lights come on after sunset.

Hida Takayama
Hida Takayama is located in Gifu Prefecture, surrounded by the high-altitude Hida Mountains. The town still retains historical buildings from the Edo period, giving it a nostalgic atmosphere as you stroll through the old streets.
When visiting this area, you must try the local delicacies. Hida beef skewers are a must-try, and since it's Takayama beef, you can't go wrong with any shop. After enjoying the beef skewers, continue your stroll through the old streets. When it started to rain heavily, I took shelter in a shop and saw many people lining up to buy Hida beef sushi. I joined the line, and it was worth it. For 1000 yen, you get three pieces of sushi with three different flavors of 5M beef, and I'm still savoring the taste. I couldn't eat anything else after that.
Miyagawa Morning Market: If you have time, be sure to visit this morning market. It mainly sells various local souvenirs, vegetables, and fruits, and it ends at 12:30 PM.
On the bridge before the Miyagawa Morning Market, there are two interesting statues on either side: the Long Hand Statue and the Long Foot Statue.
Hida Kokubunji Temple is also worth a visit, especially its three-story pagoda, which is said to be the only one in the area.

Best Mountains & Onsens
#japantrip
Takayama is a city larger than tokyo. Physically that should give you an idea of how much there might be to do and see for the holiday goer. Famously called Gifu's crown jewel, Takayama offers so much in the form of culture, architecture, festivals and drool worthy food and onsens.
As for the views it is constantly surrounded by the scenic Japanese Alps. The Takayama festival, a feather in it's cap, is considered as amongst the most beautiful festivals in Japan. The charming rural town has sights that are reminiscent of the Edo era.
The architecture dates to the 16th century and the narrow alleys of teahouses and sake breweries feel a world away from Japan’s fast-paced cities like Tokyo. The three-sister mountain ranges of Hida, Kiso and Akaishi are said to be the home of mountain spirits, giving this destination in the Japanese Alps a celestial level of serenity. #japantrip #gifu #japan #beautiful #nature #mountains

Takayama 📍
Visiting the Takayama Spring Festival in Japan was an amazing and cultural experience. Held in the city of Takayama, this festival is famous for its traditional performances and beautiful decorations. The colorful yatai carts that traverse the streets of the city highlight the excellent Japanese craftsmanship and rich history of the area. The atmosphere was vibrant and colorful with traditional music and the wonderful costumes of the participants. I enjoyed sampling local Japanese cuisine at the stalls scattered along the festival. I also had the opportunity to see folk performances and traditional dances that added cultural depth to my visit. The atmosphere was filled with joy and celebration, and visiting the Takayama Spring Festival was an unforgettable cultural experience.

Japanese Cultural Heritage Old Town | Takayama Missiles
Record the trip to Japan🇯🇵Departing from Nagoya by car to the northern part of Gifu Prefecture【Hida Takayama】This place basically preserves the shape of the merchant town from the Edo period, known as Little Kyoto of Hida... It has three towns built during the Meiji and Taisho eras, perfectly preserving the world cultural heritage architectural relics (Takayama craftsmen are Japan's top craftsmanship) and also the handicrafts of Hida craftsmen; the streets are full of the charm of the times... Here it is 3-4 degrees lower than Nagoya, and it coincides with the cherry blossom season🌸a feast for the eyes...【Hida Takayama】Strolling through the ancient streets, there is also the tempting Hida beef + Takayama ramen (these two delicacies are world-famous) Hida beef is more tender and juicy than other beef (hand rolls, meat skewers) and the ramen is very authentic... The two kids don't want to specifically queue for the popular shops... The local small restaurants found casually at street corners are also good~

TAKAYAMA - Essence Of Traditional Japan
Takayama, a charming city located in the heart of central Japan, is a captivating destination that offers a unique blend of traditional culture, stunning natural beauty, and warm hospitality. With a history dating back over 1300 years, Takayama is a place where ancient traditions seamlessly intertwine with modern life.
One of the main attractions in Takayama is its beautifully preserved old town. Wander through the streets of Sanmachi Suji, lined with well-preserved Edo-period merchant houses, sake breweries, and traditional shops. The historic wooden architecture and narrow lanes create an enchanting atmosphere that transports visitors back in time.
Nature enthusiasts will be delighted by the breathtaking scenery surrounding Takayama. Kamikochi, a pristine highland valley located nearby, is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. Another highlight of the area would be the UNESCO listed Shirakawago, a village with its renowned traditional steep thatched roofs design.
Culinary delights await in Takayama, with the famous Hida beef taking center stage. Indulge in mouthwatering Hida beef sushi, grilled skewers, or hot pot dishes, all showcasing the region's prized delicacy.

Takayama
It is an old traditional Japanese market close to Shirakawago, the old village. I love the old buildings dominated by the woods. There is also a red bridge with a river just like the one in Nikko, Tochigi. Worth it to stop by when you travel to Shirakawago!
It is indeed a great place where you can find stores offering hand gifts from Japan specialities, including the foods and souvenirs! I also found Moslem friendly snacks over there!
As Shirakawago, you will be most likely enjoying the snow fall. All in all, you can enjoy both traditional market and snow!

Avoid the crowds 🌸 Nagoya's hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing - Shoryu-dori.
Introducing a great place in Japan for cherry blossom viewing during off-peak season: Nagoya and Shoryu-dori.
Recommendation reason 1: The scenic spot is less popular, avoiding crowded tourist attractions.
Recommendation reason 2: The cherry blossoms bloom late at high altitude, about 1-2 weeks later than Kyoto, making it suitable for off-peak travel.
🔅Nagoya is a big city in the central part of Japan, but there are relatively few scenic spots. Many tour groups will only visit or pass by here; in fact, Nagoya itself is a famous historical city (the castle tower with cherry blossoms is no worse than Tsutenkaku), and it is also a tourist route in the central part. The starting point of the road, along the road are Takayama Furukawa (the location where your name was filmed), Baichuan Township (the location when the cicadas cried), Kanazawa (Little Kyoto) If you have a budget of 3 days, you can walk through Shirakawa Township; budget 5-7 day can continue to go north
🔅This line can go to cherry blossoms and hot springs in April. If you are lucky, you can see the snow scenery; if you are lucky, you can see the cherry blossoms under the snow-capped mountains (Shirakawa Township is high in altitude and you can see the snow-capped mountains) 🌸There is a direct bus from Nagoya to Shirakawa Township. It takes three hours by car, you can go back and forth on the same day or you can choose to stay for one night
🔅I booked a B&B in Baichuan Village at that time, which is the real gassho house (the gassho building here is a world cultural heritage). It is the original grass-roof house and heating system), the advantage is that you can go to the viewing platform to see the night view (the latest bus departs before sunset, you can’t see the night view), and you can watch the sunrise during the day; we were lucky to see the snow scene, and the owner of the homestay also Will introduce a lot of folklore knowledge and teach us local musical instruments (but all in Japanese)
🔅 Most of the accommodation in Shirakawa Township of the tour group is in a hotel a few kilometers away from the village. The conditions are much better, but you can’t see the night view. I came here after watching the ancient horror anime "When the Chilling Cries". I was scared when I checked in at the shrine at night [JoyTears] There is a hot spring in the village that closes after 10 o'clock, and there are few people and it is almost reserved (because the guests are only tourists who live in the village). It is the most primitive and comfortable hot spring I have ever soaked in!
🔅Shirakawa Township also has a direct bus to Takayama. There are scenic spots such as Miyagawa Morning Market, Takayama Jinya, and Takayama Shrine. Take JR to Takayama Furukawa Station, which is the filming location of "Your Name"
🔅JR continues northwards to Kanazawa. There are Kenrokuen, a famous cherry blossom viewing garden, Kanazawa Museum of Art, etc., and there are gold leaf delicacies to eat. It is a very prosperous and western city
🔅 You can buy a pass for the entire Sholongdo itinerary. There are bus, JR, bus + JR options. It is a relatively small and rich route with high cost performance

The Lord of Takayama's preference for Kyoto, so many temples were built in the foot of the mountain to the east of Takayama, and Higashiyama Temple Town originated from this
Although the sects of each temple are different, they only build mountain gates and do not build walls and valleys. Therefore, the ancient temples are continuous and neighbors to each other, forming a group of temples, which are collectively called "Dongshan Temple Town"
The point is❗️This is a relatively unpopular scenic spot in Gaoshan, with almost no people, it is simply a treasure place❗️

The morning market in Takayama has a history of about 200 years, and its reputation is also one of the best among the three major morning markets in Japan

Hida beef dishes
When you come to Takayama, you must eat Hida beef for two consecutive days. It is delicious and sweet, and the grade is really high enough, but it is really oily and easy to get greasy. No wonder you can't eat too much wagyu, and the old streets of Takayama also have a unique flavor!

Magical winterscape in Japan’s Takayama
Hida Takayama 飛騨高山 is well known for its morning markets. Boasting the biggest outdoor morning markets in Japan, the town is busy in the mornings with m two morning markets.
Situated along the Miyagawa river, locals set up stores selling everything from vegetables, fruits, spices to Japanese sweets and crafts. In the warmer months, many stores open almost daily from 6:00am while a smaller number of shops operate in the winter ❄️
This is definitely the most scenic market I have ever been! While I didn’t buy any local produce, I had a satisfying breakfast snack with homemade pudding.

Come to the Feifei Mountain area, in addition to reminiscent of the "Your Name" movie scene, you may wish to plan a night, visit the traditional Japanese market in the morning the next morning, experience the enthusiasm of the country. There are two major cities in the Hida Mountain - "the front house of the town" and the "Miyagawa Asahi City". It is not far from the old street, and it is close to the life of the local people. A rare moment in the famous old street. In the Edo period, Hida was the direct jurisdiction of the Tokugawa government. Therefore, an administrative agency was established here, called the "Malaysia House." Such a mechanism, the only remaining mountain in Japan, remains, and thus became a designated historical site in Japan. There are still warehouses, porches, long houses and other buildings.

"Ask from the crowd, there are some people in Kyoto - strolling through Japan's "Little Kyoto""
Alpine Old Street is an ancient street located in the east of Miyagawa River in Takayama. It was born in the castle town of Takashiro in the 16th century. It was the long-term territory of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the guest of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It took about 20 years for Jin to create a mountain city in the style of Kyoto, which made the mountain famous for its flying small Kyoto.
Here is the prototype of the movie "Your Name." Walk through the bridge of different colors to reach the old street. Walking in the old street does not require a map. The layout of the "Tian" shape can always find a way along the street. No purpose to hang out, look at the original wine-making houses and lattice window houses on both sides of the street. The shops are simple, some nostalgic, a bit exquisite, full of home style. There is always a unique feeling for wooden architecture, like a piece of old faded photos with childhood stone roads, small sugar people at the entrance, smoke from the roof, and meals at home.

Japans niche travel destination, known as Little Kyoto, near Shirakawago
This place is called Hida Takayama. If you have seen Xin Haichengs animated film Your Name, you should be impressed. It is called "Little Kyoto" because it preserves the entire form of the castle town and the business town since the Edo era.
[How to play: Ancient Street]
There is an old street on the east bank of the Miyagawa River that flows through Takayama. The Machimachi in the middle of this ancient street still clearly outlines the "mountain" of the castle city.
You can take a local rickshaw and take a turn around the ancient street. Here, many plaid wooden houses are well preserved. There are no tourists like Kyoto, and they can feel the charm of Japanese style and style. There are also star posters and various records of Japans smash hits.
[How to play: Xiaodian]
Occasionally found a nostalgic shop in a high-altitude ancient street, the store looks no different, and when you walk in, you find that there is no hole in the sky. In a small space, we have restored various life scenes since the 1970s, including the streets, bicycles, barber shops, hospitals, etc. we are familiar with.
The most resonating is the red and white machine. I remember that I only went to elementary school at that time. Every summer and winter vacation, I will gather with my little friends to play games. Adventure Island, Super Mario and Contra can all be back and forth. Nowadays The game console has long since disappeared into our lives.
[Playing 3: Morning Market]
Alpine morning market is one of the three morning markets in Japan, held in front of Miyagawa and Takayama. Miyagawa Morning Market is located in the vicinity of Miyagawa, which is in the center of the town, from the "Forging Bridge" to the "Baisheng Bridge". There are more than 60 booths. On the banks of the river near the street, there are open-air shops selling vegetables, fruits, pickles, spices, etc. On the opposite side of the street, there are shops selling snacks and snacks and handicrafts.
[about traffic]
From JR Nagoya, take the JR Takayama Line or bus, about 2 hours and 30 minutes, to Takayama Station. Most of the high mountain attractions can be explored on foot, and you can stroll from JR Station to the ancient street in 20 minutes. You can also choose to rent a bicycle for a tour of 300 yen for the first hour, then 200 yen per hour, and a daily rent of 1,300 yen.

Alpine winter is also one of the snowy areas. The size and thickness of the snow are also very pure white. Compared to the tourists in Hokkaido, you can visit the morning market and the quiet old streets.

Japanese royal palace palace houses, temples in the Nara area of Kyoto are mostly from the hands of the master craftsmen of the flying craftsmanship. These traditional crafts are still enduring for a long time. It is the essence of all Japanese craftsmanship. Many streets in the mountains still maintain the atmosphere of ancient elegance. The monuments are worth visiting in depth. The appearance of Little Kyoto, the quiet streets in the morning, it seems that every household in this family knows each other. Most people will decorate the flowers and plants in front of the door, not only in the inner court, but also express the aesthetics of the host family even along the street. Attitude towards life!
To this day, we have a feeling of tranquility, people are less beautiful,
the whole mountain city is dominated by wooden architecture,
exquisite carpentry craft makes the whole mountain city antique,
dawn The small town is beautiful,
many streets completely retain the traditional Japanese lattice window,
local cuisine, coffee house, etc. also retain the complete form,
the temples, shrines, rivers here The bridges all have the charm of Kyoto,
some aspects have the beauty that even Kyoto can't match.

The Takayama city center in the center of the northern part of the Gifu Prefecture and the Hida area has been preserved since the Edo era, and it is called the "Little Kyoto". In addition, you can take a walk in the "Machimachi" that was built in the Meiji and Taisho eras, and taste the local foods that are represented by the alpine kneading, and the crafts that condense the craftsmanship of the flying craftsmen. Full of charm.
The mountain has the reputation of flying small Kyoto, and it is Sanjo Ancient Street that must be visited here. Since its inception, Miyamachi has been a prosperous market where alpine merchants and untouchables gather. It still retains the traditional old-fashioned buildings of the Edo period and was designated by the Japanese government as an important traditional architectural complex. On both sides of the old street are black traditional wooden buildings and traditional square lattice doors and windows. Walking on the street seems to go back to the Edo period through time and space, very interesting. If you know Japanese well, you can even take a rickshaw and listen to the history of the mountains and the lives of the people.
The traditional building of Mimachi Old Street has a variety of shops, selling all kinds of handicrafts, souvenirs, sake, restaurants, cafes, local cuisine, etc. It is very good to buy. Into the store, in addition to enjoying the fun of shopping, we must take the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the traditional architecture that was left in the Edo period.

The so-called high mountains of the "Little Kyoto", there is no ancient interest. Stroll through Miyamachi, on both sides of the Machiya building's wineries, grocery stores, coffee shops and local restaurants, as well as red monkey babies everywhere. Foreigners on the road are more than Nagoya. It is a pity that the cherry blossoms here have not yet opened, and the mountain festival will be held here next Saturday. Sorry to miss [Frown]
