If you're visiting Malacca for the first time, copy this one-day itinerary.
Malaysia is visa-free, so I decided to take a spontaneous trip.
I finally visited Malacca, a place I've longed to visit, and it was truly amazing.
I really like this colorful, dopamine-filled, Southeast Asian-style small town.
It feels like being in Venice on the sea.
I wandered aimlessly through the streets, taking photos, trying local food, daydreaming by the river, and enjoying the sea breeze. It was so relaxing.

⭐️⭐️Malacca One-Day Itinerary:
Dutch Square ➡️ A Famosa ➡️ St. Paul's Church ➡️ Sultan's Palace ➡️ Menara Taming Sari ➡️ Malacca Straits Mosque ➡️ Jonker Street ➡️ Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum ➡️ Malacca River Cruise.
-
✅ Dutch Square
The red buildings and exotic atmosphere of the square make for great photos. There are also many museums nearby where you can learn about the local history and culture.
-
✅ A Famosa
Locals call it the "gate without walls." At the top of the hill is St. Paul's Church, where you can learn about the colonial history from 150 years ago. The view of Malacca from the top of the hill is beautiful.
-
✅ Sultan's Palace
It houses the Malacca Cultural Museum, which displays the daily items used in the palace.
-
✅ Menara Taming Sari
A super cool observation tower that rotates and rises to a high point, offering a panoramic view of Malacca.
-
✅ Jonker Street
A street with a Southeast Asian vibe, beautiful architecture, and lots of delicious snacks. Jonker Street is also great for shopping, with many old specialty stores, craft shops, and local clothing stores, perfect for buying souvenirs. There are also many cafes and milk tea shops on this street, so you can take a break at a cafe when you're tired.
-
✅ Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum
Learn about the local Peranakan culture. The architecture and exhibits here are very exquisite.
-
✅ Malacca River Cruise
The scenery along the river is very beautiful, showcasing the essence of Malacca's landscape, especially the colorful houses.
-
✅ Malacca Straits Mosque
The sunset here is stunning on a clear evening. Long pants are required for entry (long clothes are available for rent at the entrance).

⭐️⭐️Malacca Travel Tips
1⃣️ Malaysia is visa-free. Remember to fill out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) 3 days before departure.
2⃣️ There are direct buses from Kuala Lumpur Airport, or you can take a bus from TBS Bus Terminal. The journey takes about 2 hours, with many departures. Tickets cost 11-14 RM.
3⃣️ Malacca has a night market on Jonker Street every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, which is very lively.
4⃣️ Malacca is not big, so you can do a one-day round trip from Kuala Lumpur. If you have more time, you can enjoy a leisurely two-day trip.
5⃣️ For accommodation, I recommend staying on Jonker Street or along the Malacca River. My room had a view of the canal, which was amazing.
6⃣️ You can use Grab or Bolt for taxis, which is very convenient.
7⃣️ Many shops in Malacca only accept cash or local cards, so remember to bring enough cash.

Relaxing River Cruise in Melaka
#malaysia
This amazing cruise started off near Jonker Street, passing the river banks lined with shop houses painted with mural arts, restaurants, eateries and private housing, unfinished monorail tracks and looped back. The entire journey took around 30min.
The small boat is stable and the ride doesn't make us giddy or experience any motion sickness. Overall, the ride is pleasant for anyone who has not been before. One time is enough.

MELAKA RIVER CRUISE
Melaka River is strewn with history dating back to the grandiose days of the influential and powerful empire of the 'Melaka Malay Sultanate' which led to merchant world-over to come to trade and commerce and which incredibly led Portuguese historian Tomes Pires to name the state as 'Venice Of The East'.
However, today Melaka River to large extent serves only as rich reminder of its glorious and bountiful past and of its present development. And what better way to find out than to take a river boat cruise in order to trace its history and check out the quaint and scenic beauty.

Melaka River Cruise ✨
This was one of the highlights of my Melaka trip. Really enjoyed this night boat cruise. Both side of the river were all lit up with different colored lights and this really made the cruise scenery really interesting and fun.
The cruise started off near Jonker Street, passing the river banks lined with shop houses painted with mural arts, restaurants, eateries and private housing, unfinished monorail tracks and looped back. The entire journey took around 30min. For the purchase of entrance tickets, it is more economical if bought online than when you walk in.
Recommended to ride on the boat on night, the night view is really amazing, at night the river is lit up with lights and boats also have some colorful lights fitted. ❤️

Through Lights and Colors
Along this river, you can see most of the interesting places in Malacca such as Dutch Fort, the Sea Museum, etc. In fact, along the river there are also many interesting murals painted on the walls of buildings. There is also audio played on the boat that provides information every time it passes an interesting place along the Melaka River.
The most interesting time to ride the boat is at night because it is less hot & the view along the river is also more exciting because there is an abundance of colorful neon lights that illuminate the river bank. The journey time is also quite long around 40-45 minutes.

Melaka River Cruise ⛵️✨
Must do this activity if you are ever in Melaka. Very reasonable price on the tickets, a very informative cruise and the view during the cruise is really amazing. If its not much, I can say that you will know about the whole Melaka just by taking this less than an hour river cruise. The boat was slow not fast so we can enjoy our trip with relaxing and feels the environment. Can bring kids without any problem. Can view the places around. Worthwhile spending RM25 per head for a refreshing 45 minutes trip. 👣
I love what they have done on both river banks. They kept the old homes and warehouses and converted them into fabulous riverside hotels, shops. cafes, eateries and street arts. 🥰👍🏻
Nice trip. Boat operators are very friendly. There's an explanation in both Malay and English to each site you are cruising next to. Loved the views. 😎✨

Heart of Malacca
You have to do this when you're in Melaka!!
I would recommend taking the night cruise as they surrounding building , bridges etc. are all colorfully lighted up and you have a better experience strolling down the river. You can also see (and wave) to the people strolling by the riverside or having their drinks/meal at the many outlets along the river. There are few locations in town to take the river cruise, however if you're driving i would advice taking it from Taman Rempah jetty. There are ample parking space and you don't have to worry to find parking space for your vehicle!! #riverview #malaccariver #heartofmalacca #malacca #rivercruise

Melaka River Cruise
#passionpassport
Taking Melaka River Cruise is much less exhausting and it’d allow us to serenely took in the sights and sounds as we’d cruise by.
There were some fascinating bridges framing out our experience such as Pedestrian Bridge at Kampung Morten, Kg. Jawa Bridge, etc.
Along the river, shop and restaurant owners have allowed their walls to be painted with bright, artistic murals. Many of these wall arts are giant illustrations depicting Malaysian culture and history. It’s truly a beautiful sight seeing these vintage shophouses transform into a canvas, and accentuates the importance of art in preserving Malaysia’s heritage.
It was an enjoyable experience traveling on the cruise across the River of Melaka. As soon as the ride was over, we were safely dropped at the place where we headed the cruise. We slowly started taking a walk and travel towards our next destination which was in Red Square.
Operating hours daily: 9:00AM TO 11:00PM
