Tanhua Temple is located at the foot of Jinma Mountain in Kunming, on the banks of Jinzhih River. There is a Udumbara tree (actually a Yunnan magnolia tree, over 300 years old) in the temple, which is said to have come from India. The temple is named after the tree, which still stands in the courtyard of the Sutra Library. On the wall, there is a stone inscription with the words "Udumbara Brings Good Fortune." The temple is famous for its flowers and trees, especially the magnolias and camellias in summer and autumn, and the cyclamen in winter and spring.

Encounter Jiangnan-style gardens in Kunming - Tanhua Temple Park
Tanhua Temple Park is located on Jinma Mountain in Kunming and was first built during the reign of Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty. The park is named after a tree that is said to have come from India. Tanhua Temple was originally the villa of Shi Shiqiao, a high-ranking official of the Ming Dynasty, and was donated by his descendants to build a temple. It was later destroyed by an earthquake and rebuilt. Although Tanhua Temple Park is located in Kunming, it has the elegance of a Jiangnan-style garden, with pavilions, rockeries, and lush flowers and trees. The park is home to many cultural attractions, such as the stele of poems and essays given by Zhu De to Monk Yingkong, Lanmao Garden, Ruiying Pagoda, Yuan Jiagu Memorial Garden, and Qian Nanyuan Memorial Corridor. The tranquil scenery of the park blends with the leisure and entertainment of the people, creating a harmonious ink painting.

Tanhua Temple in my eyes
The first time I came here was in autumn. When I walked in, I found that a chrysanthemum exhibition was being held in various small courtyards of Tanhua Temple.
The shadows of the trees are mottled, and I am impressed by the tranquility and serenity in this busy city;
The second time I came here was in winter, so there were a lot of people on weekends, especially the 🍼 bottle feeding koi activity was most popular among adults and children, and everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves;
The third time we come is spring. Although Kunming is like spring all year round, spring has the most flowers in all seasons of the year. The trees are full of camellias, magnolias, cherry blossoms, papayas, azaleas, crabapples...
In the summer, when I came to Tanhua Temple for a walk, the scenery was different again. The sky seemed bluer, the trees seemed greener, and the leisurely old people in the green bamboo garden were playing cards. A long afternoon passed~

Free Tanhua Temple Park
I visited the Tanhua Temple in Kunming on the 16th day of the first lunar month, and it has actually become a free park.
The park features three representative architectural complexes: First is the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats. It is crafted with natural colored mineral pigments based on the original collection of five hundred arhat images from the Qiongzhu Temple, leaving behind a precious masterpiece of Buddhist culture! Second is the Ruisheng Pagoda, the tallest pagoda in Yunnan, which was built in 1995 and completed in 1996, standing at 48.8 meters tall! The pagoda, reflected in the lake water, leaves a beautiful memory for visitors! Third is the unique Yunnan Jia Valley Memorial Park, dedicated to the economic figure Yuan Jiagu. Yunnan is not only a major tourist province but also a major cultural province! It has a long history of humanities and a wealth of natural resources!
Tanhua Temple, like a shining pearl in the treasure trove of tourist resources that is Kunming, dazzles and illuminates!
