|Where the Five Surnames Once Were. Wuxing Lake is one of the birthplaces of ancient culture. It is named after the five major surnames of the descendants of Emperor Shun—Yu, Yao, Chen, Hu, and Tian—who lived by the lake. It is the largest freshwater lake in Shanxi Province and an important wetland protection area in the province. According to records, people lived around Wuxing Lake during the Ming Dynasty, and villas and long dikes were built. There were fish in the water, and it was like the Jiangnan region in the north. Wuxing Fish was one of the eight scenic spots of the Yuan Dynasty. An old record from the Ming Dynasty states: "There were many towers by the lake, and people lived in a circle. Every summer, the lotus flowers bloomed, and the waves were like clouds, mixed with green duckweed and red smartweed. Fishermen and waterfowl were like a painting, and the wind blew them together, making it a beautiful sight." Yes, you read that right. There is also a huge stone sculpture of young Mao Zedong here. On both sides of the statue, two stone tablets are erected, with inscriptions in imitation of Mao's calligraphy from his youth. Departing from the Salt Lake District, it's just a one and a half hour drive away. ❤️❤️❤️ Photo taken in December '23. ❤️❤️❤️ ❤️Navigation location: Wu Family Lake Wetland. ❤️Free admission, free parking, 40 yuan for renting a 4-person bicycle. 🚲 ❤️Suggested visiting time: 3~5 hours (cycling + photography) 🎉 ❤️Cycling route recommendation: Since we had elderly people with us, we did not cycle around the lake. We first went to the right to the viewing platform, then returned to the entrance, and then to the left to the viewing platform, totaling less than 3 hours (including photo time at the viewing platform). If you don't want to pedal too hard, you can also follow this route~ 👈🏻👈🏻👈🏻 I went with my mother and grandmother. It's not recommended for the elderly to walk on foot as the lake is very large. 😳😳😳 We rented a four-person bicycle, and the three of us pedaled while my grandmother did not. The rental shop owner on the right side of the entrance was so nice to lend me an electric scooter to pick up my grandmother from the parking lot to the entrance of the scenic area. ❤️❤️❤️ There are also sightseeing electric cars that seem to cost 120 yuan per vehicle, and it seems that they only leave when full, which we found too expensive so we didn't take one. 😂😂😂 The environment is very good, the scenery is beautiful, and you can occasionally see little ducks in the water by the road, as well as a lot of reeds~ 😉😉😉 👉🏻Definitely go to the viewing platform on the right after entering, when I went the wind was strong, and the waves could directly hit my feet, and I could also stand high and look out over the lake! 👍🏻 👉🏻On the left, I only went to one of the closer viewing platforms, which was also quite nice, though not as big as the one on the right, it's a long walkway.
