Koyasan Spiritual Heart of Japan
Koyasan [Mount Koya, 高野山] is one of the World Heritage Sites on the Kii Mountain Range of Japan. It is considered to be the spiritual heart of Japan. Koyasan is a sacred Buddhist site that was established by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) [空海,弘法大師)] in the 9th century. Many people visiting Kansai region may miss this place but worth visiting. Journey up to Koyasan is easy. Just go to Namba Station, buy a Nankai Koya Line discount ticket cost JPY3,540; which includes train from Osaka Namba Station to Gokurakubashi Station, Cable Car to Koyasan Station, 2 days unlimited ride on bus in Koyasan and return cable car and train back to Namba Station.
Key Areas to Walking around Koyasan
1. Daimon Gate (Serving as Koyasan’s main entrance, the Great Gate is a spectacle of design standing nearly 25m tall. The Daimon Gate is the first structure visitors coming up the pilgrimage route see when arriving in Koyasan.)
2. Danjo Garan Sacred Temple Complex (One of the two sacred sites in Koyasan. The Danjo Garan Sacred Temple Complex was founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) when he returned to Japan from China as a place where Buddhist monks could peacefully study his newly found Shingon Esoteric sect of Buddhism. Kondo the central hall of Koyasan, Konpon Daito where enshrines a statue of Dainichi Nyorai (Buddha Mahavairocana) as the main statue.)
3. Kongobuji Head Temple (Koyasan’s head temple. Kongobuji also refers to the entirety of the Koyasan area. It is the main temple for around 4,000 branch temples of the Shingon Esoteric sect of Buddhism.)
4. Okunoin (Koyasan’s most sacred site. Okunoin cemetery is the largest cemetery in Japan stretching 2km long with over 200,000 tombstones. Okunoin is the location of Kobo Daishi Kukai’s Mausoleum, where it is said he still remains today in eternal prayer.)
Koyasan maybe not a too heavily-visited area but it’s worth a trip if you are near Osaka and like temples and nature and some quiet time. #koyasan #高野山 #osaka #japan #travel
Tokyo's power spot: Mount Koya Tokyo Betsuin
Koyasan Tokyo Betsuin is located about a 15-minute walk from Sengaku-ji Temple and Shirokane-Takanawa Station.
It's a large temple in the neighborhood, and in the past, the white hydrangeas were very beautiful. When I was taking pictures of them, someone from the temple said, "You can take them if you're nearby," and I was given a couple of them.
The hydrangea area is no longer there, and it has been replaced by a new shrine called Myojin Shrine.
I feel like Tokyo Betsuin is evolving every year.
Though it's in the city, the grounds are spacious and there are many things to see.
First, after passing through the gate, on the left hand side there is the Shikoku 88 Temple Sand Stepping Stone.
There was also an elephant of Kobo Daishi.
On the right hand side there is the 100-step stone, the temizuya, and Myojin Shrine.
Beyond that is the Fudo Hall where Acala is enshrined.
In front of the gate is the main hall.
You can open the door and enter at any time during the day.
Photography was not allowed.
On the left side of the main hall there is a shrine office where you can purchase amulets and other items. What I would like you to buy here is "Senmai-tsu".
It contains 1000 thin sheets of paper and costs 1000 yen.
You fold it up small and drink it while chanting "Namu Daishi Henjo Kongo".
Pasinperon Hayabusa had previously introduced it on YouTube, and I immediately went to buy some.
I always give it to people who are sick or have problems.
It's said that it's good to drink this when you're feeling a little unwell or when you've visited a haunted spot.
They also do copying sutras on the weekends.
It's a really nice place, so why not drop by while you're out for a walk?

A Trip to Mount Koya: A Serenity and Sacred Japanese Cultural Experience
A trip to Mount Koya in Japan is a peaceful and sacred journey. The attraction that attracts me the most is walking among the 200,000 cemeteries. This does not feel eerie and scary, but gives people a sense of peace. We also visited the largest stone garden in Japan - Panryu Tei.
The trip to Mount Koya gave me a sense of tranquility and peace. I highly recommend this beautiful and sacred place to anyone who desires to experience the depth of Japanese Buddhist culture and seeks tranquility.
We stayed at a hotel in Osaka, so we could complete the round trip in one day, and finally we could take the evening train back to Osaka.

[Wakayama] Kongobu-ji Temple, founded by Kobo Daishi
I went to Kongobu-ji Temple, one of the two major tourist spots in Mount Koya. It is a sacred place of Esoteric Shingon Buddhism founded by Kobo Daishi, and is also the head temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect.
When I visited in mid-April, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, making it the perfect place for a recommended cherry blossom viewing🌸
