Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan
Visited Wulingyuan Area which has both the top and bottom part of the Mountain. Spent 1 day to visit the top part. Entered through the East Gate of the National Park, took the Eco bus up to Bailong Elevator station and took the Bailong Elevator up to the top. Afterwhich, took an Ecobus to Yuanjiajie where the Avatar Mountain is at and stroll around with more beautiful section. Took the Eco bus around 35min to Tianzi Mountain and explored the cableway there #tianzimountain #travel #mountain #yuanjiajie #bailongelevator
Why avoid Zhangjiajie avatar mountain
I went to the Zhangjiajie National forest park in October on a weekday and it was a bit of a sad experience. If you live in a western country, you might feel the same about this beautiful place as it is wayy too over commercialised.
There are throngs of people arriving from 8am, who are pushy and shouting and spitting and taking photos in somewhat of an inconsiderate way. I did that too of course haha but felt a bit nostalgic for a an unpaved, quiet environment to experience the mountain calmly and have more of a spiritual peace that mountains can sometimes bring. 1hr at the avatar mountain was enough for me. Take the overpriced Bailong elevator (65yuan for a 50sec ride with 25other people squished together sweating) so you can finish it faster and move on to the other nearby mountain eg Tianzishan. Where i had more moments of peace (5-10mins without tour groups) at some of the viewpoints and manually walking down the mountain. I hate to recommend it as that would bring more commercialisation but there it is - Oct 2024 feedback.

Tianzi Mountain in Zhangjiaje
Today, Tianzi Mountain in Zhangjiaje was on the agenda. First, we travelled up by cable car. The journey took about 10 minutes and was full of thrills. We were practically floating between the mountains. A great moment.
Once at the top of the mountain, you could take a short circular walk and enjoy the view of the mountains. There was also a small temple and a viewing platform. Food was provided at McDonalds.
We then decided to do the hike to the Ten Miles Gallery. This 5 km hiking tour offers a number of highlights. Lots of stairs, many viewing platforms and plenty of peace and quiet due to the low number of visitors.
Shortly before the end of the tour, pass through the monkey park, where you can watch the monkeys playing up close.
Once in the valley, you can fortify yourself and, if you wish, take the little railway to the bus stop.
In total, you cover around 500 metres in altitude, albeit downhill.
