Exploring the Untouched Beauty of Satang Island: Dolphins, Snorkeling, and Turtle Conservation
#islandtour #100waysoftravel #borneo #sarawak #kuching #Satangisland #dolphin #snorkelling #santubong
Our visit to Satang Island in Kuching was an unforgettable adventure. This peaceful island, nestled near the coastline of Borneo, is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and abundant marine life. We began our journey early, meeting at the jetty at 8:30 AM, with high hopes for dolphin spotting. To our delight, we were lucky enough to catch sight of three Irrawaddy dolphins from a distance, making the trip even more special. As we approached Bird Island, we were greeted by the sight of countless birds soaring around the island, adding to the serene beauty of the place.
Once on Satang Island, we had the chance to snorkel in the clear waters, exploring the rich underwater world. Our guide even let us try fresh sea urchin, which was an unexpected treat! The island is also known for its role as a turtle conservation center, with basic amenities and simple toilets. While facilities were modest, the island's charm and natural beauty made up for it. We had packed our own lunch and made sure to clean up thoroughly before leaving, ensuring we left the pristine island just as we found it. Satang Island is truly a hidden gem, offering a tranquil escape into nature.
A Chefs Kiss @ Cook's Bay
Cook's Bay is by far thr best hotel I have ever stayed at.
Located in Moorea, French Polynesia, the hotel has a stunning view of the volcanic mountain ranges as well as a private beach with some of the best snorkelling I have ever experienced.
Want to swim with wild turtles on your holiday? Then book a stay here. I was lucky enough to encounter 4 turtles whilst swimming around the crystal clear water and vibrant coral.
Moreover, the rooms are gigantic with spacious balconies, the perfect place to eat a nice meal.
Moorea is beautiful and Cook's Bay hotel is the cherry on top.#freehotelstay #tahiti #snorkelling
The Island of Nusa Lembongan🇮🇩
📍Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Penida!
Nusa Lembongan has flown by. We’ve spent 5 nights here and it barely felt like 2!
Almost everyday we picked a beach club and absolutely chilled. We found a cafe (B’Fresh) that we visited everyday because it was so cheap & delicious. We discovered our love for Bintang beers (especially lemon Bintang). And we even found an amazing donut place on the island. We had scorching hot days in the sun and thundering, rainy nights.
The highlight of our trip was our last day where we took a day trip to Nusa Penida. We stopped at a few different tourist spots; the famous Kelingking beach that looks like a cute dinosaur, broken beach which has the bluest water, Angel Billabong & Crystal Bay. We got lucky and were put in a lovely group of friendly people from all over the world. We all took turns playing music that encapsulates each of our countries (we chose Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Bonkers’ and The Streets’ ‘Fit but you know it’ for Britain😂🇬🇧). It was a really great day!
Other than a day trip to Nusa Penida, that isn’t too much to do in Nusa Lembongan. There’s a few sights on the island, but if you don’t drive a scooter, they’re pretty hard to get to. If you’re tight on time, 3 nights would definitely be enough :)

Nusa Penida Day Tour🇮🇩
Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach, Angel Billabong & Crystal Bay🌴
Top Tips:
1. Go to Kelingking Beach early!! It is very hard to hike both down & up to the beach - it will be so hot if you hike back up midday. Bring water & things to cool you down.
2. Be careful of the monkeys at Kelingking beach!
3. All of these tourist spots are very crowded, so expect that.
4. Fittingly, the drive to Broken Beach features a very broken road - it is very bumpy, so be prepared!
5. Crystal Bay is very tiny, if you want to stay there all day, maybe bring snacks with you.

Where to stay:
* or should I say ‘where not to stay’😂 We stayed at Nusa Bagus Homestay for 5 nights - £5.15 each, per night. This was our cheapest accommodation in Indonesia yet, with our other accommodations averaging around £10. Although it is definitely not the worst we’ve stayed at, it wasn’t great. The WiFi has been none existent, no cleaning, pretty sure we heard rats scurrying across the ceiling, the owner isn’t very friendly & the beds were so Uncomfy. But for £5 a night - you’ve got your kettle, fridge, sometimes hot water, coffee sachets etc. It wasn’t that bad!

A TRIP AROUND THE PHI PHI ISLANDS, MAYA BAY!
Koh Phi Phi📍
We day-tripped from Koh Lanta to the Phi Phi Islands to explore the top tourist spots.
Maya Bay was our first stop & we had heard lots of negativity about it not meeting expectations. So our expectations were pretty low. Yes, there were crowds upon crowds of tourists. And yes, the toilets made me heave multiple times. However, the beach truly is beautiful. And the sand is so white and so so soft.
Next, we went to Viking Bay - I found it interesting that this is where they harvest bird nests to make traditional Chinese soup?! How random.
We snorkelled nearby & I’ve never snorkelled before. For my first experience, it surely was a frightening one😂 Firstly, I couldn’t get my snorkel to work. Constant mouthfuls of water & waves hitting me in the face. Finally, when I could breath & actually see what was beneath me, I instantly regretted it. Two Blacktip Reef Sharks in the water below. I have Ellie telling me that there were trigger fish in the water (not nice fish) & also saying that there was a barracuda (it was not, in fact, a barracuda). So, the entire time, I was freaking out :) After the second shark sighting, it was a fast swim back to the
boat.
We then headed to the main part of Phi Phi, Phi Phi Don, to have some lunch and look around shops- there was a lovely Burger King & McDonald’s facing eachother👯♀️
Finally, we went to Bamboo Island where we swam in the crystal clear water & had the absolute best time. I think Bamboo Island has the best water we’ve ever swam in.
Overall, we had such a fun day exploring Phi Phi & we are so glad that we just did a day trip, instead of staying on the super party island!

SHOULD YOU VISIT GILI TRAWANGAN?🇮🇩
Gili Trawangan has been my favourite place in Indonesia so far. Almost every day here, we’ve had the absolute pleasure of swimming with the turtles. It still blows our mind that the turtles are almost always there and you can just rock up on the beach to have some of the best experiences of your life - for free!
The island is so small (we bicycled around the entire coast in an hour!) and there are no motor vehicles at all on the island. Instead, people opt for bicycles & (unfortunately) horses. This really heightens the feeling of ‘the island life’🌴
From Gili T, you can do snorkelling trips and trips to the neighbouring islands of Gili Air & Gili Meno. And, although we have heard very bad things about the ferries to Gili T, our ferry (we went with Eka Jaya) was less than an hour & super smooth! So worth the trip from Bali.

Gili Trawangan
We stayed on Gili T for 3 nights in total and we were so happy we went! A note if your hotel is not on the east side of the island by the dock you will most likely need to get a horse and carriage with your luggage to your accommodation because that is the only transportation on the island other than bicycles.
Our accommodation was on the west side of the island so we therefore had to get a horse and carriage which cost about 150,000 rupiah. Once we got to our accommodation we hired bikes to get around the island which is very easy as it’s very flat.
One of the days we went snorkelling and we swam with turtles. There are so many turtle points around the island, the best way to find them is either ask one of the locals at each point or see how many people are in the sea snorkelling as that will indicate if there are any turtles there. We saw around 5/6 turtles this day.
There is a bit of party on the island however we didn’t go out in the night, we did however make it to Mad Monkey Friday foam party for a few drinks which turned out to be super fun. They usually have a few patty’s on during the week.
Overall loved the island, we didn’t go to any other islands as we were happy to stay on Gili T, but I know you can do snorkelling tours around the other islands and some people do stay a night on some other islands but all in all Gili T is stunning and great for snorkelling and a snippet of paradise.

Semporna Trip May 2022
Getting There - Semporna is one of best place to visit for snorkelling or diving activities. You have to fly to Tawau airport from peninsular if you would like to get there. the distance between Tawau airport to Semporna is about 1.5 hours.
Attractions - If you are ocean lover, will suggest you to spend 5 days here and at least you can plan 3 days to visit 3 routes and at least 8 islands/places in Semporna.
Hotels - If you have better budget, strongly recommend you to stay in Kapalai resort, which is totally a unforgettable experience. If you are looking for budget travel, stay at Semporna town and lot of hotels choices.
Food & Restaurants - Seafood, seafood and seafood is the best choice.
Shopping - Personally I like to have a coffee at Starbucks Seafest Square. Nice place to hang around and chit chat with friends during evening or night time.

Moreton Island Get Wrecked 1-Day Tour
We met our fellow tour guests at the Brisbane Coach Terminal meeting point. Sunset Safaris also does pick-ups from Gold Coast but they are more expensive and the meeting time is way earlier. The driver then collected $50 from each person for the National Park and Ferry levy fees. After that, it was a comfortable 45-minute drive to the port to board the MiCat Ferry.
Our first activity was taking a four-wheel-drive (4WD) out to the desert for sand tobogganing. Then we had a picnic lunch which they provided.
The next two activities were snorkelling and transparent kayaking around the shipwrecks, with equipment provided (super convenient!).
My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Next stop: The magical underwater world! 🌊🐠
Island Hopping & Snorkelling in Sabah!
Twin Island Hopping on Manukan and Sapi Island in Sabah was so much fun! I got to snorkel in the clear blue water, and it was amazing.
Manukan Island was calm and peaceful, with soft sandy beaches where I could relax and enjoy the sunshine. Sapi Island, on the other hand, was full of energy and excitement.
Snorkeling was easy because the water was clear, and I saw lots of colorful fish and beautiful coral reefs. The boat rides between the islands were really cool too, and I got to see some breathtaking views of the coastline.
Overall, it was an awesome adventure, and I had a great time exploring the underwater world and soaking up the sun on the stunning beaches of Manukan and Sapi Island.

Phi Phi Islands tour
We stayed in Phuket for 5 days. We didn’t have time for many Long Island trips, so we took a day tour to visit as many as we could in one day! It was a fantastic experience!! I thought it might feel rushed but the guides allocated the perfect amount of time at each spot.
We were collected from our hotel and brought to the pier. We had some light refreshments before heading on the boat. The boat was comfortable and we all had life jackets. Water and soft drinks were available throughout the day free of charge. The tour guides were super friendly and caring.
We visited bamboo island and Phi Phi island as well as Maya beach. The water was crystal clear and the sand was incredibly white and soft. We had two opportunities to go snorkelling by the coral where we saw amazing fish - just like finding nemo!
Lunch was big and tasty. The trip was both exciting and relaxing but I wouldn’t recommend bringing children under 9 years of age as it would be a long day for them and they wouldn’t be able to experience the day like an older child.
