An unforgettable moment I experienced in Hoi An
There was a charming historical site that made the Disney castle look like a garden shed. But the really interesting part was the guide we met at the entrance. His enthusiasm was so great that even explaining tax filing would sound fascinating.
He gave us a short tour, and his passion was like someone who had just found the last piece of a 1,000-piece puzzle. He had a wealth of historical knowledge, but more than that, his storytelling was an art. It felt more like watching a blockbuster movie than attending a history class.
If you ever go to Hoi An, don't just pass by the Hainan Assembly Hall. Make sure to visit. If you're lucky, you might get to experience a tour by this incredibly passionate guide.
Just meeting someone who talks about ancient architecture as if they've won the lottery is enough to make the visit worthwhile.
Hoi An City Center's Large Temple
Chùa Chúc Thánh is conveniently located in the heart of the city, close to the Water Puppet Theater, making it a popular destination. The temple's spacious and cool area provides a serene environment for deep meditation. I have placed my mother's ashes here, which has brought me great comfort.
Through interactions with the monks, I gained a deeper understanding of Buddhist teachings. The peaceful time spent at the temple has enriched my faith. I am grateful for the monks' kindness and wisdom, and this place has become a sanctuary for my soul. Chùa Chúc Thánh is not just a temple, but a special place filled with faith and love. Hoa Van Le Nghia... Hoi An Temple and Former Assembly Hall..
Vietnam's Hoa Van Le Nghia Confucius Temple in Hoi An is a place with a unique atmosphere and deep historical significance. Nestled in a quiet street, it offers a sense of tranquility distinct from the bustling city center. The temple is heavily influenced by Chinese architectural styles, featuring ornate decorations and intricate carvings. The red and gold adorned pillars and roof are particularly striking, blending with Vietnamese traditional elements to create an even more fascinating architectural beauty.

Hoi An Bridge and Thu Bon River
If you're traveling to Hoi An, the Hoi An Bridge is a must-see attraction. Located within the Old Town of Hoi An, this bridge holds significant historical value on its own, but it becomes even more enchanting with the Thu Bon River flowing beneath it. Especially when boats filled with wish lanterns cover the river, the true beauty of Hoi An comes to life.
As evening approaches and the sun sets, colorful lanterns begin to light up one by one throughout Hoi An, casting a gentle glow over the Thu Bon River. A large temple at the entrance to Hoi An.
#VietnamTravel #HoiAn #ChùaPhápBảo
Located in the heart of Hoi An Old Town, *Phat Bao Temple* is located at No. 07 Hai Ba Truong Street and is a large temple belonging to the Northern sect.
The main hall of the temple is decorated very solemnly. In the center is the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha preaching, and in front of it are the statues of Amitabha Buddha and Maitreya Bodhisattva. On both sides are the statues of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta, creating a pious and solemn atmosphere as a center of faith.
This temple underwent large-scale renovation work in 2000 led by Buddhist monk Thich Hanh Niem, and is currently used as the representative office of Buddhism in Hoi An city.
In the center of Hoi An, a world cultural heritage site, many believers and tourists visit here to worship, and the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful architecture of the temple leave a deep impression on visitors. It is also a great place for taking pictures, making memories with the majestic appearance of the temple in a quiet environment.
Hoi An Prison...
This place was a prison operated by the United States during the Vietnam War. Some areas have not yet been restored, and many ruins remain intact, allowing visitors to feel the traces of that era. Walking through this place, one might recall the events that took place here, sending chills down their spine.
It is a site of deep historical significance, and I highly recommend a visit for those who want to directly experience Vietnam's painful history.
Hoi An Local Church
When I first visited Hoi An, one of the most impressive places was the Hoi An Church. I had the opportunity to attend an evening mass, which was the most humble and sparsely attended mass I had ever experienced. About 10 people quietly worshiped, and it left a deep impression on me.
This church is historically significant as the first place where Catholic faith was introduced in Vietnam. In contrast to the bustling streets of Hoi An, spending time in the serene atmosphere of the church brought a sense of peace to my heart.
If you visit Hoi An, I recommend stopping by this church to experience its history and enjoy a moment of tranquility.
Đình Làng Hội An... A Quiet Temple in the Old Town...
While walking through the streets of Hoi An Old Town, you will come across a small temple called 'Đình Làng Hội An'. Its exterior is modest and nothing particularly stands out, but its tranquility might be its charm.
It's a good place to stop by and calm your mind as you pass through the bustling streets of the Old Town. The area around the temple is quiet, and you can see locals going about their daily lives, offering a glimpse into the true essence of Hoi An.

Kwiatkowsky Square.. Hoi An.
One of the interesting resting places in the old town of Hoi An is the square dedicated to the Polish architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski. Kwiatkowski made significant contributions to preserving Hoi An's cultural heritage and promoting the unique identity of this city to the world. You can find a space here commemorating his achievements.
In the center of the square, there is a stone sculpture engraved with Kwiatkowski's face, where you can take a moment to rest. Spend some tranquil time in this square while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Hoi An's old town. Moreover, this place is open to the public for free, so feel free to visit.

The Bài Chòi location in Hội An is popular not only for performances but also as a park where you can relax during the day. It's a place where you can enjoy traditional games and folk art, as well as take leisurely walks or photos. The park is beautifully decorated, making it perfect for taking stunning photos under the sunlight and relaxing in a tranquil atmosphere.
You can sit comfortably in shaded areas with cozy chairs, enjoying the beautiful surroundings. It's recommended as a place to visit during the day for some healing time, even when there are no art performances.
The street in front of the Guangdong Assembly Hall at the Museum of the Afterlife..
The Guangdong Assembly Hall.. Although I didn't know much about the history of the *Hoi An Assembly Hall*, I was deeply impressed just by its exterior. This hall, with its prominent Chinese architectural style, is grand and beautiful in itself. Every detail of the building is so intricate that it makes for a perfect photo spot.
However, the downside is the lack of explanation about its historical background. I thought it would be nice to have information boards for visitors to better understand the significance and history of this hall.
Hoi An's Iconic Landmark: The Japanese Bridge
I traveled extensively through Hue, Hoi An, and Da Nang. I thought this place would be an excellent choice for a future honeymoon destination. Although the weather was somewhat hot, I was satisfied.
Hoi An's Chua Cau is a symbolic site in the old town, famous for its Japanese-style architecture. Built by Japanese merchants in the 17th century, it is even depicted on Vietnamese currency. Chua Cau is associated with the legendary monster Namazu. It was believed that the monster's body stretched from Vietnam to Japan, causing natural disasters with its movements. The bridge was constructed to control the monster, symbolizing peace and prosperity. This bridge is also known as the Japanese Bridge or Lai Vien Kieu, meaning 'Bridge to Welcome Guests from Afar.'
Hoi An Japanese Bridge
Located in Hoi An Old Town, this place has recently undergone renovation. It is clean, tidy, and exudes a solemn atmosphere. At the entrance, there is an altar where incense can be burned, and right next to it stands a stele indicating its status as a historical site, along with a statue.
It becomes even more beautiful in the evening. Many people quietly observe and appreciate the bridge as they pass by. Unlike the bustling streets outside, everyone here remains calm and reverent.
The most memorable moment was when I stepped into the area with the altar. The air was filled with the scent of incense, and the sacred atmosphere and warm feeling deeply touched my heart.
Phung Hung House.. Hoi An
In January 2024, I visited Hoi An and bought a 120,000 VND entrance ticket to explore various attractions. One of them was the *Phung Hung House*. At the entrance, I tore off one of the five mini tickets and finally entered.
This house is known to be the oldest wooden house in Hoi An, dating back 400 years. Inside, you can find old furniture that gives a sense of the long history, making you feel like you're traveling back in time. Additionally, there are souvenirs for sale, so it's fun to take a small memento from this place.
Although it's not large, the experience of seeing this house with its long history firsthand provides a deeper understanding of Hoi An's culture and traditions. It's worth a visit to feel the charm of Hoi An in a different way.
Hoi An Entrance Quiet Temple
Walking through Hoi An Old Town, you will come across Đình Cẩm Phô, a quiet temple located on a tranquil street. This place is quieter than the opposite side of Tran Phu Street and is near the river, where a cool breeze blows. Even under the scorching sun, stepping into this place brings a sudden sense of coolness.
Đình Cẩm Phô is one of Hoi An's cultural heritages and a paid attraction. By purchasing an 80,000 VND ticket, you can visit three designated places, including this one. Personally, I preferred this place over other attractions in Hoi An due to its tranquil and leisurely atmosphere.
The architecture follows the traditional Vietnamese temple style, making it a great spot for photography. Additionally, touring this place offers a deeper understanding of Hoi An's history and culture. It is a perfect place for a leisurely stroll and contemplation without the crowds.
Hoi An Old Town Entrance Model Ship
As soon as I arrived at the entrance of Hoi An Old Town, what caught my eye was the Red Seal Ship Model. This ship model, located at the entrance, naturally drew attention due to its size and vibrant colors. The model itself was quite unique, making me stop and take a closer look.
The red paint on the ship was particularly impressive, and there were intricate decorations all over the hull. There was a description stating that this ship was not meant to hold any special significance but was rather a model to enhance the scenery of Hoi An.
Nevertheless, the ship seemed to carry some symbolic meaning. When taking photos, the sunlight gently embraced the hull, creating a beautiful scene. The serene atmosphere of Hoi An Old Town and the splendor of this ship blended together in a peculiar way, making the moment feel even more special.
This ship is one of the elements that add to the charm of Hoi An, providing a small attraction for visitors.
Gửi Xe Hội An Park
Located at the entrance of Hoi An, Gửi Xe Hội An Park warmly welcomes travelers. The park features a square, charming model boats, and striking yellow buildings set against the backdrop of the Thu Bon River. The view of the Thu Bon River from the park is particularly peaceful and beautiful. The trees lining the river and their reflections on the water create a harmonious scene, making it a great place to enjoy a tranquil moment during your trip. The yellow buildings are a modern reinterpretation of traditional Vietnamese architecture, offering a vibrant yet warm feeling that blends well with the surrounding landscape.

The Pink Church at the Entrance of Hoi An
The Hội Thánh Tin Lành Việt Nam - Chi Hội Hội An church stands out with its unique pink exterior, making it a beautiful landmark that catches your eye as you stroll through Hoi An. It is a special place where one can experience both religious aspects and traditional architectural styles, harmonizing with the historical ambiance of Hoi An.
Hoi An Memorial Park for Great Figures
This place is a memorial site dedicated to the great intellectuals and patriots of the Quang Nam region, making it especially attractive to photography enthusiasts like me. The expansive garden is well-maintained, and the restored buildings blend beautifully with the scenery. Restored in 1993-1994, it exudes a serene atmosphere as if time has stood still, with nature and historical architecture coming together to create a perfect setting for photography.
Particularly, capturing the reflections in the lake after the rain is quite impressive, with the tranquil ripples reflecting the scenery. However, one downside is that the lake used to have a good drainage system that allowed water to flow out naturally, but now the drainage is blocked, causing occasional flooding. After heavy rain or floods, the area around the lake can be submerged, making it a bit inconvenient for taking photos, but you can still capture unique scenes in such conditions.
Despite these minor inconveniences, this place is highly recommended for leisurely walks and photography amidst the historical and traditional landscapes of Quang Nam.

Passing through the main gate of the temple, the serene garden and majestic structures catch the eye, creating a calm yet profound atmosphere. Taking a leisurely stroll around the temple, it feels as if time slows down, offering a unique experience of stepping back into the past to feel the teachings and traditions of Confucianism.
Since it is not crowded with tourists, it is an excellent place to enjoy contemplation and take photos. Visiting in the afternoon when the sunlight casts a gentle glow on the buildings and garden creates a very beautiful scene. This place is particularly meaningful for travelers who love history, as it allows one to feel how long Confucius's teachings have been respected in Vietnam.
The Confucius Temple in Hoi An
The Confucius Temple in Hoi An is a historical site that stands out for its unique architectural style. If you have a keen interest in ancient sites and architecture, this is a must-visit place. Although it is only about a 3-minute walk from the Hoi An Ancient Town, it remains relatively quiet and peaceful due to the lack of tourists. This makes it an ideal spot to spend some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Originally known as 'Van Mieu Tien Ban,' the first Confucius Temple in the Quang Nam region, it was relocated to its current location in 1835 after surviving natural disasters and wars. The temple was destroyed by a fire set by French troops in 1885 but was rebuilt in 1961 and restored again in 2005. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Confucius Temple has overcome numerous challenges, symbolizing the enduring importance of Confucian teachings and scholarship in Vietnam.
While the overall layout of the Confucius Temple resembles traditional Chinese Confucius temples, its architectural style strongly reflects Vietnamese traditions. The vibrant colors, intricate carvings influenced by Southern Vietnam, and unique tiled roofs distinguish it from Chinese-style Confucius temples found in other regions. The elaborate Vietnamese carvings adorning the pillars and roofs make the structure itself feel like a work of art.
Every year, traditional ceremonies are held here in the spring and autumn to honor Confucius's teachings, continuing the cultural heritage. Visiting this place offers more than just sightseeing; it provides a glimpse into the flow of Confucian culture and history in Vietnam. Spending time in this tranquil space, walking slowly, is a healing experience.

The Hoi An Temple of Literature... A Quiet Temple in Hoi An...
The ancient town of Hoi An is home to the 'Van Mieu', a historic Confucian temple listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At one time, there were over 160 such temples in Vietnam, but now fewer than 30 remain. Despite this, Vietnam still holds the record for the most Confucian temples in Southeast Asia.
The predecessor of the 'Hoi An Confucian Temple' was the 'Tran Ban Temple of Literature', the first temple of its kind in the Quang Nam region. However, due to natural disasters and wars, it was relocated and rebuilt in Hoi An city in 1835. The temple was burned down by French troops in 1885 but was rebuilt in 1961, with the most recent restoration taking place in 2005. This history makes the temple akin to a 'phoenix', symbolizing that Confucianism and its teachings can never truly disappear from Vietnam.
