The Allure of Budapest: Discovering the City’s Unseen Charm
#europetrip #hungary #travel #adventure #thermalbath #danuberiver #nicefood
Budapest, Hungary’s captivating capital, is a city where rich history and vibrant modern life beautifully intertwine. One of my most memorable experiences was exploring Buda Castle Hill, where cobbled streets lead to stunning views of the Danube River and landmarks like the Royal Palace and Fisherman's Bastion. The architecture here feels like stepping into another time.
Another highlight was the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, one of Europe's largest spa complexes. Soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters amidst Neo-Baroque beauty was a unique experience that allowed me to immerse in Hungary's centuries-old wellness tradition.
A boat cruise along the Danube revealed a new side of Budapest, with breathtaking views of the Parliament, Chain Bridge, and Buda Castle, especially as the city lit up at night.
One of the most unforgettable moments was visiting the New York Café, often called the most beautiful café in the world. The opulent, historic setting, complete with gilded interiors and chandeliers, made sipping coffee and enjoying Hungarian cake feel like a royal affair.

Journey to Mt. ijen: A Sunrise Hike
Our adventure to Mt. Ijen began in the pitch dark of early morning. Equipped with flashlights and gas masks, we embarked on the hike with cautious excitement. Hiking in the dark brought its own challenges, with steep paths that demanded our full attention. We took it slowly, making frequent stops to catch our breath and recalibrate our pace. Each break became a moment to absorb the tranquility of the mountains, even though we couldn’t yet see the full beauty around us.
Reaching the top was a huge relief—a silent celebration shared with our fellow hikers. After a short rest, we set out to explore, only to learn that the famous blue flames area was temporarily closed to visitors. A little disappointing, but we were still in awe of the incredible scenery that awaited us. As dawn broke, we moved to the crater rim, where we were allowed to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the sulfur lake.
The air was crisp, carrying a unique purity that felt like it had been untouched by time. As sunlight crept over the landscape, the turquoise lake at the center of the crater sparkled, wreathed in soft clouds of smoke rising from the sulfur vents. Watching the first light reflect off the lake was nothing short of mesmerizing—a scene we knew would leave an everlasting mark in our memories.
Is Mt. Ijen hike worth it? For me, it is definitely a yes.

A Morning Adventure with Playful Monkeys in Ubud’s Sacred Monkey Forest
During my trip to Ubud, Indonesia, I spend an incredible morning exploring the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. This serene forest is home to hundreds of Balinese long-tailed monkeys and being able to walk amongst them wS both thrilling and peaceful. #monkeyforest #adventure#holidayvacation
🐒 As soon as I entered, I was surrounded by the beautiful greenery of towering trees and moss-covered statues, which created a mystical atmosphere. The playful monkeys added to the charm, swinging through the trees and curiously approaching visitors.
Tip for travellers:
- Avoid carrying food: the monkeys are very curious and will try ti snatch any food you bring, so it’s best to leave the snacks at the entrance.
- Secure your belongings: the monkeys are known to grab shiny or loose items, si keep you belongings like sunglasses and phones secure!
- Photos: while it’s tempting to take selfies with the monkeys, try not to get too close. Instead, let the monkeys approach you for a more natural interaction.
🌳 The forest is not only a sanctuary for monkeys but also a cultural gem with ancient temples hidden within the lush surroundings. I truly recommend to visit Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, which is the main temple. Featuring intricate stone carvings and ancient architecture. 🐪 Our journey started in the afternoon when we were picked up in a vintage Land Rover. The ride itself was a trip back in time, offering stunning views of the golden dunes and local wildlife like Arabian gazelles. What really stood out to me was their commitment to preserving the environment and Emirati culture. #localguides
Be aware that no dune bashing here, just a smooth ride to take in the scenery.
🌅 We watched the sunset from the top of a dune which made it even more special. Whether you are a photographer or just someone who appreciates natural beauty, this moment is not to be missed. #sunset #photography
⛺️ One of the highlights was the Bedouin-style camp, where we were treated to a traditional Emirati dinner under the stars. The food was delicious, with options for vegetarians, and the live cultural performances like falconry and traditional dance added a magical touch. I also got to try on traditional outfits and participate in camel rides and henna art (all included!) #deliciousfood #culturalheritage
The camp is eco-friendly, and the experience felt intimate and respectful of the desert’s beauty and culture. #sustainability I also appreciate the small group sizes, ensuring a more personalizad and private adventure.
Tips for travellers:
- Dress comfortably: it can get chilly in the evening, so bring a light jacket.
- Book in advance: their tours are very popular and spots fill up quickly!
- Stay hydrated: though they provide plenty of water, the desert heat can sneak up on you during the day.
-Taste the dates: they are a delightful local snack that pairs well with the traditional Arabic coffee (Gahwa) you will be offered.
- Wear neutral colours for wildlife viewing: this not only enhances the experience but also increases your chances of getting closer to wildlife without startling them!
Journey Through Petra: Exploring Timeless Treasures and Hidden Gems!
Petra blew me away! The day began with excitement as you arrived at one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, Petra. The heat was already noticeable from early morning, so made sure to carry plenty of water. A sunhat and sunscreen!
From the moment I stepped into the Siq, the narrow canyon that leads to the famous Treasury, I felt transported to another time. The stunning façade of Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) is even mire impressive up close - carved into the rose-red rock, it’s an iconic symbol of Petra’s grandeur. #VisitPetra #historicallandmarks
As the day goes on, you continue exploring deeper into Petra, heading towards the Royal Tombs and the vast amphitheater. The stone steps and rocky paths can be tough under the hot sun, but the views are worth every step. Each corner of Petra tells a story of a once-thriving Nabatean civilisation, and every view is breathtaking.
The highlight? Hiking to the Monastery (Ad-Deir). While the climb is challenging, it rewards you with panoramic views and an awe-inspiring structure. If you are up for an adventure, it’s well worth it! #localguides
Pro Tip: once you reach the Monastery, the terrace right in front of it offers breathtaking views of the valley below. I highly recommend having a break or lunch there! It’s also an ideal spot for taking photos with the Monastery in the foreground #panoramicviews #photography
Recommendations for Petra:
- Arrive early: the site opens around 6 am, and arriving early will not only help you avoid the heat but also the large crowds.
- Stay hydrated and protected: the Jordanian sun can be unforgiving, specially during summer.
-Comfortable footwear: Petra requires a lot of walking! The hike to the Monastery, in particular, can be taxing and can take around 40 minutes.
- Enjoy Local Food: plan for a meal at one of the restaurants inside, it’s great to sit down in the shade for a break while trying some local cuisine.
-Plan your day: Petra is massive, you will need at least one full day exploring the site. We spend around 8 hours!
Extra Tip: you can also visit Petra by night. Don’t miss the chance to see the Treasury lit by hundreds of candles-it’s an unforgettable experience.
Petra is more than just a historical site, it’s an adventure that brings you closer to the rich past of Jordan and leaves a lasting impression!

Top 10 photogenic spots in north wales
1. Conwy castle. Definitely one of the most unique places I’ve ever visited, Conwy castles many towers offer sweeping views of both the Menai strait and the mountainous Snowdonia national park among rich historical surroundings.
2. Mount Snowdon, or Yr Wydffa. This hike is a light challenge with numerous different trails up to the peak, or alternatively accessible via the snowdonia rail. I’d personally recommend Pen Y Pass for a steady incline with stops along the mountain lakes for breathtaking scenery.
3. Caernarfon. This small but colourful town really comes to life in the summer months, with full beer gardens and visitors rushing to enjoy the huge Caernarfon castle and its independent high streets. I recommend travelling through here on route to a Snowdon hike.
4. The smallest house in Great Britain is on Conwy pier, and has a lovely little story if you venture inside. The house is also a minutes walk from a route to the towns ancient walls, which protected it from enemy attacks many hundreds of years ago and still stand encircling the city today.
5. Beaumaris is a charming and quaint little seaside town on the isle of Anglesey, with its own castle, and some lovely walking trails along the water.
6. Plas Newydd house and gardens is a must-see in the autumn months when it is covered in red vegetation and the surrounding walking trails are full of fallen orange leaves. Take a tour inside this historic property and wander the grounds, which are also a red squirrel hotspot. (The isle of Anglesey is a red squirrel preserve!)
7. Bodnant gardens. Charming botanical gardens set amongst woodland, make a very relaxing half-day out. Purchase some bird feed and you’ll find yourself followed about by friendly ducks.
8. Portmeirion. This ‘model village’ looks like something ripped out of the Amalfi coast! It’s absolutely beautiful and a one of a kind location. Nobody lives permanently in the village so you can revel in its touristy aspects and explore to your hearts content!
9. Puffin island. Although the island itself is an inaccessible nature preserve, it can be viewed from a seaboard safari cruise setting off from Beaumaris. It holds the monastic ruins of Ynys Seiriol and a colony of Atlantic grey seals basking on the rocks. The main season is between April and July when you are likely to see common guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and of course puffins, as well as porpoise and perhaps even dolphins.
10. Newborough beach and Ynys Llanddwyn. On the isle of Anglesey is a beautifully long stretch of beach flanked by the stunning forest. The beach is leading to a pilgrims path across to the small island. This gets cut off by the tide at certain times of day so be sure to time your walk well at low tides, to enjoy the lighthouses, wild grazing ponies, sand dunes and ruins famous for their connection with Saint Dwynwen, patron saint of lovers.
