Christmas coming to Oslo
#magicalxmastrip #oslo
Oslo at Christmas is pure Nordic magic, with snowy streets, twinkling lights, and festive cheer everywhere you look. Start in Spikersuppa, where the ice rink glows under fairy lights. Glide (or stumble) your way through the heart of the city before warming up with a cup of gløgg (Norwegian mulled wine).
Next, wander the Christmas markets at Youngstorget or in front of Oslo’s Cathedral. Shop for handmade crafts, nibble on pepperkaker (gingerbread cookies), and savor the scent of roasted almonds in the frosty air.
Dive into Norway’s holiday traditions at Frogner Park, which is especially magical in the snow, or head to the Norwegian Folk Museum for Christmas crafts and carols by candlelight. Feeling adventurous? Take a trip up to Holmenkollen for panoramic views and skiing vibes.
End your day with a cozy feast of ribbe (roast pork) or pinnekjøtt (lamb ribs) at a local restaurant. Don’t forget the Christmas dessert: riskrem, topped with sweet berry sauce and a hidden almond for luck.
Oslo at Christmas is more than a holiday—it’s a snow-dusted fairytale with cozy corners, festive treats, and plenty of winter charm.
Oslo in Christmas: A Winter Wonderland
#magicalxmastrip #oslo
Oslo, Norway, transforms into a magical winter wonderland during the Christmas season, offering a unique blend of Scandinavian charm, festive traditions, and stunning natural beauty. From the end of November, the city glows with twinkling lights and holiday decorations, making it a perfect destination for anyone seeking Christmas spirit.
One of the highlights is the Christmas markets. The traditional market at Spikersuppa, located in the heart of the city, is a must-visit. Rows of wooden stalls sell handmade crafts, local delicacies, and mulled wine (gløgg), creating a cozy atmosphere. The ice skating rink nearby adds to the charm, with families and couples gliding under fairy-lit trees.
For a more immersive holiday experience, visit the Norsk Folkemuseum’s Christmas Fair. This open-air museum offers a glimpse into Norwegian Christmas traditions, complete with carol singing, folk dances, and authentic Norwegian treats like krumkake and ribbe. It’s an enchanting step back in time.
The city’s landscape is equally captivating, especially if snow blankets the rooftops and streets. A trip to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump area offers breathtaking views of Oslo and opportunities for skiing or sledding. Alternatively, you can enjoy serene walks in the nearby forests of Nordmarka.
Cultural attractions, like the Oslo Opera House and the Viking Ship Museum, remain open during the holidays, offering visitors a balance of festive cheer and rich history. And no visit to Oslo in December is complete without admiring the grand Christmas tree at the National Theatre Square.
While Oslo can be expensive, its warm, festive atmosphere and unforgettable experiences make it worth every kroner. Whether you’re exploring markets, enjoying winter sports, or simply soaking in the seasonal vibe, Oslo at Christmas is a magical escape into a Nordic fairy tale.

The Viking Planet 🇳🇴
#summerdestinations
During my summer trip to Oslo, I had the chance to visit The Viking Planet, located at Vestbaneplassen 1. 🏰🛡️ This interactive museum offers a fascinating dive into Viking history with cutting-edge technology and immersive exhibits. The entrance fee was 190 NOK (around $18), which felt reasonable given the quality of the experience.
The Viking Planet features an array of exhibits including virtual reality experiences that let you step into the world of the Vikings, from exploring a longship to experiencing daily life in a Viking settlement. 🛶⚔️ The museum’s interactive displays are engaging for all ages, making it a great stop for families as well as solo travelers.
Nearby, you can explore the Oslo City Hall or take a stroll along the Aker Brygge waterfront, both of which offer stunning views and a vibrant atmosphere. 🌊🏛️ The area is also packed with charming cafes and shops where you can unwind after your visit. 🍰🛍️
Overall, The Viking Planet is a captivating experience for anyone interested in Viking history and culture.

Let's travel to Oslo.
It was an impressive first experience with snow. Environment/Facilities: Oslo is quiet, peaceful, and clean. The people are not chaotic. 💞Reason for recommendation: If you have the chance, I highly recommend visiting at least once. Don't worry about the language barrier because most people here speak English in addition to Norwegian. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Santa coming to Oslo 🎄😍

My experience at the Christmas Market in Oslo was a winter wonderland for me! 🎄 Located in Spykersuppa Square in the heart of the Norwegian capital, the location of the market is no less glamorous outside the Royal Palace Oslo City Hall
The highlight was the many stalls, each offering a variety of festive crafts, traditional Norwegian desserts and holiday treats for Gløgg (mulled wine) and the scent of roasted almonds filled the air filled, making it pleasantly inviting and creating an atmosphere.
Surrounded by twinkling lights and decorated with a towering Christmas tree, the central ice rink was the heart of the market. Skating with the Palace in the background added a bit of magic to the experience.
While exploring nearby attractions, Akershus Castle and the Acre Brigge waterfront offered a seamless mix of historic and modern charm. The picturesque streets of the Karl Johannes Gate made for a lovely leisurely walk, especially the town decorated with festive lights
Essentially, the Oslo Christmas Market is a Nordic delight, offering the perfect blend of tradition, holiday cheer and warm Norwegian hospitality for Its central location, festive highlights and proximity to Oslo’s cultural gems make it a holiday an interesting place. 🇳🇴❄️🏰 #christmas #snow #Santa #oslo #norway

A day in Oslo Sentrum.
Being able to witness Oslo pride is such a privilege. I’m truly grateful for the love and support of the Norwegians for the LGBT 🏳️🌈 community. People were so kind and loving 🥰. The community vibe was full of inspiration and vibrant. I got to check the National Theater which was my highlight of today’s visit. If you happen to have a sneak peak of Sentrum don’t forget to take a chance to see the Sentrum park. It’s beautifully peaceful and it designed for both children and adults. 😍 #mytripvlog #oslobattractions #oslo #norway #europe

Long story short, me and my friend was nearly late for the flight from Oslo to Stockholm, just because of a short toilet break in the hotel room🤡
We went to the Oslo central station with confident of being early, yet the airport express have already left🤣After waiting for 20min, we can finally go to the airport and realise that we have only 20 minutes left for boarding. Luckily, we found out that we can check in online and get the luggage tag on the train, which is a great tips for you guys!
another thing, as we are nearly the last ppl to check in, the luggage was offload first after we arrive Stockholm. Hooray!#luggage #tips #境外遊 #oslo #stockholm

Akershus Fortress, Oslo
apparently one of the most haunted buildings in the world, although I didn't see any ghoulies on my recent visit! The fortress itself has a great location and can be walked to from the city centre .it includes a number or artillery museums but all were closed when we visited .The fortress itself is free to enter and walk around. The views across the Oslofjord are spectacular and worth the visit alone .#oslo #norway

Must visit in Oslo - Oslo Opera House 😍
It only takes 5 minutes from Oslo Central Station to reach the Opera House, which has become an Oslo landmark soon after its opening. The Oslo Opera House is built of snow-white marble, with an avant-garde and modern appearance. It is the first choice for checking in at oslo🥰🥰
When I first went there, it was snowing heavily so I couldn’t go to the top. But if the weather is good, you must go to the top to overlook the entire Oslo city center.
In addition, the opera houses have tours (ticket: 75nok) where you can have a look at the work of the backstage staff, e.g. stage management, costume design, and sit in the auditorium to simulate the scene of watching an opera.

Holmenkollen Ski Museum & Tower - Oslo
Built on the top of a mountain north of Oslo, it held its first ski jumping event in 1900s. A taller tower was then built later for the 1952 Winter Olympics.
Within this huge compound, you will find a Ski Museum, an Observation Deck, a Ski Simulator and a zipline for the adventurous.
But, unfortunately the museum is under renovation till end of 2023. But you are still able to admire the building structure from the outside!
To get here, you can take Metro 1 (towards Frognerseteran) and alight at Holmenkollen station. It will then be a 10 minutes walk to the location.

Oslo hikes just hits differently!
Hikes in Norway is just breathtaking! During my recent trip I visited Stavanger, Haugesund and Oslo. It was fall season slowly turning winter, which made the weather excellent for hiking! Imagine hiking in 7-10 deg weather! The difficulty level is much higher in Norway as these paths are really natural rocks and hills. Good footwear is a must! You can always be assured of a beautiful summit view at the top of every hike! Getting in touch with nature, respecting the routes and keeping it clean is what Norwegians practice. It amazes me to see lots of parents carrying their newborn on their backs and taking these routes. All well trained since young to appreciate the nature and surroundings! Would definitely recommend! #oslo #stavanger #haugesund #norway

A must try newly opened trendy Art Deco gem!!!
The newly opened Sommerro Hotel in Solli Plass Oslo was a conversion project of the old electricity company.
It’s filled with carefully implemented design details in very corner as you manoeuvre in.
Tried the afternoon tea set today and was stunt by the matching tailored chair covers and culinary designs.
The auto play Steinway Grand piano is also said to be a proud layout.
Services are professional and properly trained, (mind you, Norwegian aren’t known for attentive nor up to date standard hospitality manners).
Foods are well presented and finally some authentic English High Tea!(high standards for Norway market! )
A definite must Check Out Spot! Shall be back to try out more of the other facilities.

Viking Ship Museum and Kon-Tiki
#bucketlistreboot
We also visited The Viking Ship Museum (Vikingskipshuset) which is most famous for the completely whole Oseberg ship, excavated from the largest known ship burial in the world. It appears this museum is now temporarily closed for renovation until 2025/2026. The new museum will be called the “Museum of the Viking Age” which will provide a more complete picture of the Viking Age in its entirety.
Kon-Tiki Museum The museum houses vessels and maps from the popular Kon-Tiki expedition. Here you can see the Kon-Tiki, a balsawood raft that Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl used to cross the Pacific Ocean. This was his first expedition to be captured on film. The Kon-Tiki documentary from 1950 is screened every day at 12 noon in the cinema of the museum. Take this into account when planning your visit.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Fram
#bucketlistreboot
The Fram Museum is a museum telling the story of Norwegian polar exploration. If you didn’t know, Fram is the strongest wooden ship ever built and still holds the records for sailing farthest north and farthest south. At the Fram Museum you can come on board the ship and see how the crew and their dogs managed to survive in the coldest and most dangerous places on earth – the Arctic and the Antarctic. Certainly a museum to visit whilst in Oslo and it will be a hit with the kids too.
Oslo is perfect for a city break and you can easily visit and see the top attractions in a weekend. It’s an easy city to fly to with hand luggage only and very easy to get around.
#oslo #norway
Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) #bucketlistreboot
The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History (Norsk Folkemuseum) shows how people have been living in Norway since the 16th century. In this open air museum, you’ll find over 150 historic buildings situated in beautiful surroundings. Don’t miss the popular Gol Stave Church, built in the 1200s, it really looks spectacular and so well preserved for its age. As you walk around, you will see sod roofed farm houses from different regions of Norway, surrounded by pastures and grazing farm animals.
You can enjoy some of the indoor exhibitions of historic furniture, clothing, altarpieces, Sami handicrafts and the interior of Norway’s first parliament.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Bygdøy Peninsula
#bucketlistreboot
Bygdøy Peninsula
Bygdøy is situated on the western side of Oslo. It is a popular recreation area and the place where the most expensive properties in Norway are found. To get there, we took a ferry from City Hall to Bygdøy. Bygdøy is also the home of five national museums. We visited four of these (mentioned below), except for the Norwegian Maritime Museum. At the museums you will experience and learn about the Norwegian spirit, the explorers and history from the Viking age till today. This is a great place to go and spend a day and perfect for the kids as well.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) The Vigeland Park
#bucketlistreboot
Frogner Park is the largest park in Oslo where you can see the Vigeland installation – a permanent sculpture installation created by Gustav Vigeland. It consists of sculptures as well as larger structures such as bridges and fountains. At the highest point in the park, you will see the park’s most popular attraction, the Monolith. The Monolith tower is composed of 121 human figures rising towards the sky. The Vigeland installation is sometimes called “Vigeland Park” or “Vigeland Sculpture Park”. In reality, “Vigeland Park” doesn’t really exist but this is the name used by the tourists as opposed to “Oslo natives” who know it as Frogner Park.
#oslo #norway
Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Oslo National Theatre and Art Museum
#bucketlistreboot
Oslo’s National Theatre has served Norway’s main arena for stage artists, theatre productions and large celebrations for over 100 years. It’s a beautiful building “guarded” by statues of the great Norwegian writers Henrik Ibsen and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. Our hotel was close to the Theatre, so we had the pleasure of seeing this building a few times during our stay.
Astrup Fearnley Museet is one of Scandinavia’s most notable museums for contemporary art. If you are into modern art, definitely pay a visit. It is beautifully situated by the fjord and makes for a nice walk along Oslo’s harbour promenade. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in the area, so perfect for some chill out time from all the sightseeing.
#oslo #norway
Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Oslo Cathedral
#bucketlistreboot
Oslo Cathedral Oslo Cathedral (Oslo domkirke) is the main church for the Church of Norway Diocese of Oslo, as well as the parish church for downtown Oslo. Similar to the Westminster Abbey in London, the Norwegian Royal Family and the Norwegian Government use the Cathedral for public events. Do pay a visit and definitely see the inside of the cathedral, we found it beautiful. Whilst it can’t be compared to the Berlin Cathedral or Almudena Cathedral in Madrid, this one definitely has its charm.
Oslo is a great capital to visit and explore and a great opportunity to learn more about the Vikings but also Scandinavian culture.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Highlights of Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo
Free entry with the Oslo pass and you can get there easily with a bus which will be free as well if you have the Oslo pass.

Oslo Airport, Norway
I had the opportunity to transit to Amsterdam at Oslo Airport. It's not a very big airport and not very crowded. It opened in 1998 and is Norway's main airport. There are plenty of places to sit and rest. There are places to charge your batteries under the seats. I had a few hours to walk around the airport. It didn't take long to get around. There were only a few shopping areas and a few restaurants. #oslo #norway
