A Tropical Escape to Koh Rong Samloem 🇰🇭🏝️ – A Road Trip from Vietnam to Cambodia
#celebrateit
If you’re looking for crystal-clear waters, soft white sand, and total island tranquility, Koh Rong Samloem is the perfect getaway. This hidden gem off Cambodia’s coast is the quieter, more relaxed sister of Koh Rong, making it an ideal destination for anyone craving pure nature and laid-back island vibes. And the best part? You can get there overland from Vietnam for an epic road trip adventure!
🚗 The Journey – Vietnam to Cambodia
Starting from Ho Chi Minh City, we took a bus to Phnom Penh (6-7 hours) and spent a night exploring Cambodia’s capital. The next morning, another 4-hour bus ride to Sihanoukville brought us to the coast, where we hopped on a 45-minute speedboat to Koh Rong Samloem. The journey is long, but totally worth it once you see the turquoise waters waiting for you!
🏝️ Island Life – No Roads, Just Pure Paradise
As soon as we arrived, we were blown away by how peaceful and untouched the island felt. There are no cars, no paved roads, just jungle-covered hills and dreamy beaches. We stayed on Saracen Bay, where the water was so clear you could see the sandy bottom even from the boat.
🌞 What to Do on Koh Rong Samloem
💦 Swim & Snorkel – The water is warm and calm, perfect for floating for hours. Snorkeling right off the beach, we saw colorful fish and coral reefs.
🌿 Jungle Trekking – A short hike through the lush jungle takes you to Lazy Beach, a secluded spot with golden sand and stunning sunsets.
✨ Glowing Plankton – At night, we took a boat tour to see the bioluminescent plankton, which lit up the water with glowing blue specks when we moved—absolutely magical!
🥂 Chill at Beach Bars – The island has a few laid-back bars where you can sip on fresh coconut juice or cocktailswhile watching the waves.
🍛 Food & Costs
Since it’s a small island, food is a bit pricier than the mainland, but still affordable. We enjoyed fresh grilled seafood, Khmer curry, and tropical fruit shakes. Expect to spend around $5-10 per meal.
📅 Best Time to Visit
🌴 November to May is the best time, with dry, sunny days and calm seas. Avoid the rainy season (June to October) if you want clear skies and smooth boat rides.
🚀 Final Thoughts
Koh Rong Samloem is the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Whether you’re road-tripping from Vietnam or flying into Cambodia, this island is worth every mile. If you need an escape from busy city life, this is paradise found! 🌊🏖️✨
