Mont Saint-Michel: A Medieval Marvel Rising from the Sea
#francetrip
Mont Saint-Michel, one of France’s most iconic landmarks, is a must-visit destination. This stunning medieval abbey sits atop a rocky island off the coast of Normandy, surrounded by tidal waters. The unique location makes the approach to Mont Saint-Michel feel otherworldly, as the tides dramatically shift between fully surrounding the island and revealing a causeway. I recommend exploring the winding, narrow streets that lead up to the abbey, as well as staying overnight in the nearby village to experience the magic of the tides at sunrise and sunset. The view from the top of the abbey offers breathtaking vistas of the surrounding bay. If you’re traveling in France, Mont Saint-Michel should top your list for its rich history and enchanting atmosphere. #100WaysofTravel #France #Normandy #MedievalWonder
Mont Saint-Michel: A Fairytale Getaway
If you ever find yourself in 🇫🇷France, you’ve got to check out Mont Saint-Michel. It’s this tiny island sitting between Normandy and Brittany, and I swear, the first time you see the abbey towering above the island, it’s like stepping into a storybook. Wandering through those narrow, cobblestone streets lined with old stone houses really makes you feel like you’ve traveled back in time to the Middle Ages. If you visit when the tide is low, you’ll see vast stretches of sand, but if you’re there in the evening, the abbey all lit up is seriously magical.
What’s special about this place isn’t just the amazing architecture, but also the calm, peaceful vibe it gives off. Walk around the abbey, take in the wide-open views of the bay, or relax with a coffee at one of the local cafés. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’ve escaped the hustle and bustle for a bit, and you leave feeling totally recharged.

A stone walled castle
The Caen castle is one of the historic sights you'll visit during the Caen trip. When I visited there was quite a lot of renovation going on. We were told it's over a thousand years old. So, the preservation efforts are important and bound to be helpful for those who visit the site in the future.
Besides the massive surroundings of this stone walled castle. You get to see the Caen art museum and the History museum. While some of the signs and inscriptions were in English, it still allows for appreciation of heritage artefacts. You get great views of the city from the ramparts. Perhaps, more information along the way and descriptions would help elevate the experience. Bring some water or something to snack on. The cafe inside stayed shut during our visit.

The city of 100 Spires
#myhiddengems
This capital city of Normandy is a beautiful port city set by the river Seine. Over a weekend, I was looking for travel ideas for Paris. Just to get away from the rush. Rouen filled the spot perfectly. With under 2 hours of a comfortable train ride. It ensured there was plenty of time that remains for exploration on a weekend trip. The city has several heritage and architectural marvels to visit. Particularly boasting several impressive churches and cathedrals.
The half timbered houses and the cobbled streets give it such a medieval feel. The notre dame of Rouen is amongst the most famous of structures, whose cast iron spires not only make it the tallest cathedral in France but are visible from any corner of the city. More famously it was also part of Calude monet's work who did several representations of this cathedral. It doesn't stop there, the same cathedral is also the resting place of Richard the Lionheart. But that is just the cathedral, this fine city offers a plethora of other sightseeing options in the form of museum of fine arts, St Catherine hill, botanical garden, Le gros horlog, church of
st. Joan of arc and much more. Not to miss, the food remains as impressive as any other part of France. #hiddengem #love #france #normandy #travel #vacation #wine #cheese #cafe #bar #pubs
Prettiest Harbor Town
Due to a missed flight and delay in arrival. I had to miss one night of my stay in Honfleur as I was only going to arrive the next day. And in that one day, I managed to get a good taste of what Honfleur can offer. Clearly now from experience, if i'm to return (most likely). I might even stay longer than 2 nights.
While most of my time and activity was around the Vieux Bassin, the gorgeous old harbour. Do not mistake that to be the only thing Honfleur has to offer. It's full of heritage and centuries old townhouses, churches and historical structures including the likes of Normandy bridge, Saint Catherine's church, Notre dame de Grace and much more.
It's a place with all the usual comforts that tourists seek such as vibrant night life, cuisine and local culture without the crowds. This gem is definitely on my list of places to go back to. Do give it a try if you're in Normandy.

The pleasant surprise in Normandy
I tend to do france in regions and explore them well. While the more popular places of any region have plenty said about them and shown on social media. So many times you know what you're getting into or what to expect. Then there are places you didn't consider but suddenly they feel doable for whatever reason. What's more is when you come there, they pleasantly surprise you. Well, that's exactly what Bayeux is in my case.
This little city in the heart of Normandy felt so friendly, lively and refreshing. It offers plenty to see and do. And now to think of it, I think Bayeux makes for an excellent base for exploring Burgundy. I spent 3 nights here during which the weather was lovely, it stayed warm in the noons, and got cooler in the nights. Being a foot traveller, i loved that everything was within walking distance. Plenty of options in restaurants, bars, bakeries and places to stay. The bayeux museum and the D Day Museum are worth a visit. I strongly recommend Bayeux for those who want to getaway from the big cities and find a more relaxed place for holidays with plenty to do. #myhiddengems #bayeux #france #summerdestinations #normandy #100waysoftravel #beautiful #europe
Endless beaches
#beachlife
Normandy has over 620km of coastline. No wonder it boasts some of the most beautiful beach spots in France. While a holiday in Normandy can easily be about culture, history and other aspects. But a beach getaway is also a great choice. People have different preferences for beaches. Some seek peace and serenity, water sports or family fun, while others prefer commercial ones with easy evrything.
Some of the beaches in Normandy are quiet and offbeat. Whereas others are busier with a range of attractions and seafood restaurants nearby. Whether you’re planning to take a stroll along golden sands, clamber in and out of rock pools, sunbathe in a glorious sweeping bay or a picturesque sheltered cove, you really are spoilt for choice.#normandy #vivelafrance #oolala #cherryblossom2024 #flowerlover #beachlife
The UNESCO Mont-Saint-Michel

Mont-Saint-Michel is a well visited tourists attraction in France located at 50170 Mont Saint-Michel, France. This place is one of the many places being placed in the UNESCO heritage site.
This structure has been around since the 1500s and is one of the most visited cultural sites in France. Upon entering, you will be created with beautifully carved structures, chapels and abbey churches with gorgeous arches and carefully craved ceilings as well. Of course, most of these pillars and structures went thru refurbishment so as to protect the structure itself.
Stay in a local style manor on the way to Normandy, France. Strolling on the country road is picturesque! Nice Manoir & country road in Normandie! 🤩🇫🇷

Mont Saint Michel - A sea-front fortress
#france #normandy
The 6-hour drive from Paris might be tiring, but the final destination will take your breath. You may visit hundreds of villages and thousands of churches in Europe, but the abbey on this islet is definitely one of a kind. Similar to Notra Dame of Paris, it was built along the history of France’s Christianity, and bares the architectural features of many different eras. It enables you to explore how the marvellous minds of the builders improvised the limited techniques under harsh conditions, and how medieval monks endured their isolated life.
Discover the Magic of Le Mont Saint-Michel
Nestled on the coast of Normandy, France, Le Mont Saint-Michel is a breathtaking island commune that has enchanted travelers for centuries. This medieval marvel, with its towering abbey and quaint village streets, offers a journey back in time like no other. Here are my experiences and tips to inspire your visit!
The moment you catch sight of Le Mont Saint-Michel rising from the mist, you'll understand why it's often called "The Wonder of the Western World." Walking across the causeway at low tide, the island gradually reveals its enchanting details—cobbled streets, charming shops, and cozy cafes.
Climbing the narrow, winding paths to the abbey, I was struck by the incredible architecture and the serene beauty of the surrounding bay. The views from the top are simply unforgettable, stretching across the vast tidal flats and shimmering waters.
