How to get to Wat Pa Chet Maha Ratchatharn, Xishuangbanna using DiDi: You can enter Manting Park and select the South Gate. DiDi will drop you off right in front of the temple. If you choose another gate, you will be taken to the ticket office to enter Manting Park and then walk out to the temple. Inside the park, the atmosphere is pleasant and shady, with an elephant show garden, a pagoda, and a lotus pond. The entrance fee is 45 yuan.

The Xiao Pineapple Inn hotel is located near Gaozhuang Street Market, where everyone can enjoy the local Dai food or barbecues and find many souvenirs or all kinds of snack shops.
The hotel is a new one (2023) with good service, the rooms are bright and so clean, with a nice balcony view. The receptionists at the front desk are very polite and kind.
Nightlife is vivid, with small stores open till 2-3 am and the 24-hour supermarket open next to the hotel downstairs.
Booking a hotel room in this place is an ideal choice for travel, vacations, and business meetings. I would really suggest to others that they stay there because of the affordable price and the best service ever.

Xishuangbanna is the place where everyone can be a princess and prince, you can try a lot of foods and drink, everywhere is full of Thailand-alike style, no wonder it’s called mini Thailand.
We live in Jinghong City, the price of the hotel is relatively cheaper than the one near night market, you can take taxi to night market, however it normally will have traffic jam. The famous restaurants usually need to queue up earlier but the taste is really good!
Overall, the trip is great!

The perfect place to stay if you’re looking for professional service, great views and comfort and delicious food! The food and beverage manager, Daniel, was so attentive and made us feel so welcome at this hotel. The food was great and we opted for buffet breakfasts and dinners for almost every night we stayed! The pool is huge and the surroundings make you feel like you’re in a forest! Big Buddha Temple at Manting Park
What a wonderful discover! We enjoyed Manting Park and followed directions to Big Buddha Temple, which is right next to the park (you don’t actually need to exit the park). Temple is so full of details, primarily Thai with Burmese elements. Monks and worshippers all around make it an intense experience. We kept it to our last day and definitely stole our heart.

Manting Park - expect the unexpected
Reviews convinced me to devote our last day in Banna to Manting Park. This park is outstanding. It’s worth the walk all around the lake, ending to the Buddha Temple just outside the Park (next to it, connected). There’s rain forest, Dai culture, temples… everything! We spent several hours there admiring the vegetation and engaging in a couple of activities.
Worth mentioning we did not particularly enjoyed the Elephant show and the Parrot area. These two felt more like pure human entertainment. Although we understand the “tourist side” of it, it really doesn’t make justice to the magnificence of this place.

Getting There - situated in southern Yunnan, Xishuangbanna has its own airport with domestic flights to most destinations in China. The main area around the night market is about a 20 minute drive
Attractions - there are numerous parks and wildlife conservation areas to visit as well as the night market which resembles somewhere in south east Asia
Hotels - hotels are very cheap and good standard
Food & Restaurants - the food has a traditional Yunnan vibe but is overall not as spicy. A lot of restaurants have they typic setup for a group which encourages shared eating

Catch the Details in the Forest

You can be forgiven for always looking down to watch your step in the Primeval Forest Park, or by looking up at the canopy high above your head, but we found real joy in exploring the details.
When we took time to look, we saw a butterfly with wings camouflaged like a leaf just emerging from its cocoon!
Our favourite part was pointing out all the houseplants we have at home in their natural habitat.

One of our favourite parts of our trip to Xishuangbanna was Manting Imperial Park. Here you can be surrounded by the flora and fauna that is typical to this tropical paradise, as well as get a glimpse into the unique architecture in the form of temples.
There is also an elephant show in the park, and a dance performance evening that you can get tickets for around ¥200 (buffet and bonfire included!)

About a 35 minute taxi ride from the night market you can find Manzhang village, a Dai minority historic village with many attractions.
One of my favourite parts of this visit was spitting all the different dragon sculptures as part of the temples.
Go to see traditional Dai performances, buy fresh grown fruit and have a walk around a traditional town.

Our first visit to Gaozhuang market was during the day. We were able to see the beautiful structures and artwork dotted around without a soul around. But when you come back at night, the place comes alive with people, vendors and photographers.
You can hire traditional clothes and have professional photos taken, buy souvenirs and sample some of the best street food in China.

loving elephants
the cable car is really long and so peaceful. Go early and then it’s just you and nature. take the walk back and maybe you will see the wild elephants if you are lucky. I loved feeding the elephants- I hope they are always treated well. they are such kind animals. be careful when you have your basket of fruit in your hand because people around you take the fruit out of your basket. Peacock Feast of Dai Ethnic Group in Xishuanbanna , is showcased in many cities in Yunnan. We got to enjoy this cuisine In Lijiang , inside Shuhe Ancient town .
The peacock is a symbol of happiness in the history of Dai people. This banquet gathers its most distinctive foods from the Dai culture , that includes frying , baking , cold dishes , and more. It’s display is spectacular in a bamboo plate , the vivid peacock head , and a fairy light dew made from dry ice that once u add liquid it makes the dish stand out.
This feast you eat with your hands , providing gloves you take a banana leaf and you pick up Ingredients and place it on TOP. In this particular dish we had three types of rice , chicken , fish , corn , lettuce , sauce , potatoes and fruit.
This unique experience was great , when you visit you will find that they have a selection based on how many people. We picked the 2/3 people plate that cost 128 RMB.
We couldn’t ask for more , in this experience. So next time your in Yunnan head to dianping, many places offer this. Give it a try.

Lijiang Ancient Fairy tale
Lijiang old town. I didn't have much of expectation before I got there. Just thought it was another decorative place. How wrong I was! This ond town has its true spirit of the mixture of ancient cultures.
We got there airplane from #xishuangbanna just in
1 hour. However, a bullet train is a great option too.
It is 1 thousand years old city which is kept in great condition, and it is still the center of the local cultural life. You can find everything here. There is a huge number of coffee and tea shops where you can easily spend a half of the day enjoying the river stream's sound and the beauty of sorround.
When the evening shade takes over the life music sound can be heard from every corner of the city attracting you to come in and enjoy a drink or two. Some places are getting loud and turn into night clubs working till the first lights of a new day.
There is a plenty choice of food can be found here including cousins from every part of China and some options of western food. Everything is in walking distance. Local Ynnan food including the Naxi specialities should always be given a try. Famous rose pies, yak (loalcal ox) meat dried, boiled, fried is a must if you're not a vegetarian. Different products made of it's milk including sweets is something really great to enjoy together with local tea in some of the tea shops around.
The professional photoshoots become more and more popular. Wearing the local nationalities' costumes (there are 15 totally) in this great ancient environment would be a great memory to capture.
It is extremely easy to find a good and not expensive hostel, guest house or a 5 starts hotel. Best places to stay are in the city to have an easy access to all the local places where you can find a thousand of souvenir shops too.

Explore the beauty of cultures mixed
Xishuanbanna. That what was on the train information table. Difficult to pronounce and surprising to realise there is a Thai sign on the train that departures as well as any other information shared through the speakers after I get on the train. It was something very promising to find.
After not being able to leave China since 2020, to be precise after not being able to come back of leave, there was a high desire to escape at least for a short period of time to a different culture or place. Especially, the fact that I travelled almost every 3 montha before the COVID outbreak and zero COVID cases policy in China.
When I arrived the excitement was even higher, the closer I was getting to the city tourist area which is called Gaozhuang. From the very first view here the cozyness of those narrow beautiful streets filled with little coffee shops and restaurants sorounded with a gaze of Thai spiciness made it look like #yunnan is not available, then Xishuanbanna is a great option. I wish you all who read this were here in this Wonderful restaurant owned by a Canadian guy. All the food is great and authentic. Chilli was so good that we couldn't take a picture because it was finished too fast. Beef stew was amazing. All the bread is home-made including the burger buns in we can really feel it. Tiramisu is probably the best I've tried. The biscuit part of the cake was full of some additional chocolate or cream. #yunnan #xishuangbanna #foodie #cafe

Big Buddha of Xishuangbanna

Xishuangbanna is relatively easy to navigate alone for anybody. This temple is no different, it’s free to enter and very easy to work your way through.
As you can tell, I went when it was raining so it was rather quiet in terms of other people around yet this made it more enjoyable.
The area is filled with small paths that lead you through so you wouldn’t miss any part. I ended with walking up to the Big Buddha, the steps circle round the statue and go on past until you reach the temple at the top. The view on the glass walkway here is worth it!
You can easily find a local guide in Xishuangbanna so you could ask someone to join and give you a better run down of the history of this place.

Dai style park.
There was the palace of Dai kind but I couldn’t get in: it was closed because of the virus.
However it’s a beautiful place to take pictures and enjoy the nature. You can also watch elephants’ show and take photos with the parrots.
It’s not far from the city. So no need to worry about the distance. Just go and enjoy your day. Be ready so spend at least 4 hours in the park.

Is Manting Park worth it?
Did you hear of Manting Park? It’s one of the oldest parks in Xishuangbanna. Full of unique architecture and fauna. It’s full of Dai culture!
The park you can easily spend several hours here wandering around the parks that surround the lake
🌿During the day, this place is great to wonder around the nature, bask in the sun, ride a boat in the lake, feed the fish and take in the different temples.
🐟In one part, there is a place where you can buy fish and release them back into the lake - this is seen as good luck. If you don’t want to buy fish, you can buy fish food to give thanks.
🕊Plus you can also see some wildlife and many birds - there is also an elephant show, parrot and mini-horse on site although not something I enrolled in.
At nighttime, they also hold an evening show with bonfire and lanterns. (Although I didn’t see anything about this during Covid times!)
💰The park costs enter - you can buy tickets on Meituan or simply buy them at the park entrance. I purchased tickets from Meituan for around 30rmb p/p. It was worth the price for a relaxing day out.

🚕 It’s really easy to get to, simply hail a car or self-drive to Manting Park. Parking is available on site.
🍔 There are some food vendors inside the park including drinks, ice creams, snacks and main meals
☀️ It gets really hot during the day and there is plenty of places to find shade, but make sure you use sun screen!

Where is this Elephant Park?
Alright got ya’s! Yes they’re not real Elephants - but it’s definitely more humane and great for photoshoots.
There are a range of small and big elephants to see!
It’s a great place to be lazy in the shade, sipping on some sprite (or beer!).
This place is definitely more local and was great to just watch real life… families enjoying a BBQ picnic, people fishing in the river.
