Nestled in the mountains near Shangri-La, this monastery radiates a tranquil and sacred vibe that left us in awe. Walking through its magnificent halls and admiring the intricate murals, we felt deeply immersed in Tibetan Buddhist culture. The golden rooftops gleamed in the sunlight, while colorful prayer flags danced in the crisp mountain air, adding to its spiritual charm. Inside, the Tibetan Buddhist statues are the most magnificent and enormous I’ve ever encountered. Photography and wearing hats are strictly prohibited in all temple halls, but this only heightened the reverence of the experience. We scanned these awe-inspiring artworks with our eyes, letting the memories etch themselves deeply into our hearts. The advantages include being less crowded, offering unobstructed views, and providing a unique perspective where Feilai Temple can serve as the foreground, creating a striking contrast between the grand snow mountain and the small town. However, the drawbacks are limited and more expensive options for accommodation and dining, as well as the lack of public transportation, requiring either carpooling or private car hire. Overall, it is an ideal spot for self-driving travelers or those with a generous budget.

I had such a great time visiting Lake Napahai in Shangri-La! It's about an hour's bike ride from the town, and the journey there is just as beautiful as the lake itself. The road winds through scenic landscapes, with fields and forests that give you a real feel of the area. When I got to the lake, it wasn’t as full of water as I expected—it looked more like a vast meadow instead. Even though it was dry, the place still had a calm and special vibe. To truly enjoy this place, we decided to come early to avoid the crowds. Opted out for the bus option, and we're glad we did as there was some roadworks and it was hard to spot the plank walk at first. Once we arrived, we were amazed by the magnificence and beauty of the the temples. The size of the buildings make you feel small. It's really colourful, and the smell of burning incense guides you through your spiritual journey. Go through all the temples to pray, get a blessing from a monk, enjoy the spiritual atmosphere, and marvel at the beauty of the temples. Although the weather was less than ideal, obscuring the lake's visibility, I thoroughly relished the journey. The trek offered breathtaking scenery, including picturesque valleys, majestic mountains, and meandering rivers, all set amidst a stunning array of wildflowers. Please note that the trekking infrastructure is still in its developmental stages, making it essential to exercise caution during the wet or rainy season. The ascent takes approximately 2-3 hours, and I recommend hiring a local tour guide available at the entrance gate to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Additionally, be prepared for the absence of toilet facilities along the route, so plan accordingly. The drive was beautiful but for those who are scared of heights and don’t like twisting roads should rethink going here( once you are at the gorge entrance, there is even more twisting roads, you spend 75% of the time on a bus going up the mountain). The gorge is majestic and very quiet. When we were there, there weren’t a lot of tourists.

Celebrating our final anniversary as an engaged couple called for a very special occasion, we stayed at the Shangri La Abu Dhabi! The staff looked after us providing us with an anniversary chocolate cake, and a beautifully decorated room with a view. Staying at the horizon club level certainly has its perks. We were well looked after for a two hour happy hour, breakfast and afternoon tea on a private level just for club guests. The sunset views of the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque and the boat ride down the canal were the highlights. For dinner I booked the gourmet escape, which allowed us to choose a three course meal from either the Sofra or Shang Palace restaurant. This was provided as in room dining so we could continue to enjoy the view from our balcony. It's been such a wonderful trip in Taiwan so far! Upon arriving at our hotel, we rushed to our afternoon meal tour. From our hotel, we took a bus to the pick up location and the bus was already there. Since we only chose the afternoon set, we only had light meals. The food was good and the staff were friendly. We were offered some rose plum drinks which cost NTD 250 per bottle. We got one as we only wanted to try it. The coffee was okay and they offer it from time to time so I think you can get as much as you want. We also had desserts and bread with cream cheese and jam. Both the cream cheese and jam were really good. The tour guide also speaks as we go around the city to give information on some of the buildings we pass by. The only downside is that she spoke Taiwanese so we didn't understand a thing. That's fine though, cause we were able to enjoy the view while eating. There were also other tourist buses on the streets that we got to smile and wave to which was very fun! The tour lasted 1.5 hrs and it really was enjoyable. We didn't think we'd feel full because we only had light meals. But we stepped out of the bus full and were very satisfied.
