Antwerp|Tasty seafood restaurant you cannot miss
Fiskebar
📍 Marnixplaats 11, 2000 Antwerpen, Belgium
No visit to Antwerp is complete without indulging in seafood, and this charming, vintage-style restaurant is always bustling with patrons.
Classic Double-Layer Seafood Platter
A feast of fresh seafood including lobster, mussels, oysters, and whelks. The freshness of the ingredients makes every bite delightful. Paired with their signature cocktails, it’s a true culinary treat. I’m especially fond of light, fruity cocktails, which perfectly complement the seafood.
Tiramisu
A must-try dessert! While it doesn’t have a strong alcohol taste, its creamy and airy texture makes every bite heavenly.
Clams
This dish is unique, resembling a stir-fried preparation. The seafood’s natural juices are infused into the dish, bringing out its full flavor. Dipping bread into the flavorful sauce is equally delicious and satisfying.
A fantastic spot for seafood lovers, offering exceptional dishes and a memorable dining experience.

Antwerp | Boutique hotel with good service and interior design
U Eat & Sleep Antwerp
📍Nassaustraat 42, 2000 Antwerp, Belgium
This boutique design hotel in Antwerp sits by the water and is very close to the MAS Museum. With just 15 individually designed rooms, each room has unique decor and color schemes. My room had both a shower and a bathtub, with stylish white tiles and a deep green sink that gave it a sophisticated vibe.
The hotel uses bath products from the Amsterdam brand Marie-Stella-Maris, known for its "premium essentials designed to care for yourself and others." The shampoo left my hair soft and volumized with a subtle, refreshing fragrance.
The amenities here are excellent. Downstairs, there’s a space where you can enjoy drinks or breakfast, which is served in a luxurious three-tiered setup, reminiscent of afternoon tea. The yogurt is a must-try, and the croissants and bread were even better than those in London. Belgian coffee, stronger with a hint of bitterness, stands out as well. You can also order eggs or avocado, and the eggs were particularly soft and delicate.

Antwerp | The must try bakery in Antwerp
Dellafaille MAS
📍 Nassaubrug zn, 2000 Antwerpen, Belgium
This bakery is located near our hotel, and there are only two such stores in Antwerp. When the weather is good, many Belgians push strollers with their children to buy breakfast.
After trying Belgian bread, I love it so much! The bread has a crispy crust and soft, flaky interior, with an exceptionally great texture.
The store also sells items similar to egg tarts. If you don’t want a baguette or egg tart, you can buy some packaged snacks to take away and enjoy later.

Antwerp|Discover the brilliant coffee shop in Belgium
Maurice Bar
📍Korte Nieuwstraat 22, 2000 Antwerpen, Belgium
Discovering this café was a stroke of luck. It looks like a converted church, and I originally thought that entering through the wooden door would lead to an indoor space.
However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that by looking down and walking further, there is also a fantastic garden. Belgians enjoy sitting on chairs covered with soft blankets on weekends, sipping coffee, chatting with friends, and relaxing.
One of the main reasons I particularly like this place is that it is next to a home goods store, and the coffee cups have beautiful designs with purple patterns.

Red Star Line Museum 🇧🇪
#summerdestinations
Just had an incredible visit to the Red Star Line Museum in Antwerp! 🚢 This museum, situated on the waterfront, dives deep into the stories of millions of immigrants who sailed from Europe to the New World in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The entrance fee is about €10, which is a steal for such an immersive experience. The exhibits are well-curated and truly bring the history to life, with personal stories and interactive displays that really engage you.
After exploring the museum, I wandered around the nearby old docks, which offer a charming mix of historic and modern Antwerp. Don’t miss the MAS Museum nearby, with its panoramic views of the city from the top – the perfect way to cap off your visit. 🏙️
Overall, the Red Star Line Museum is a must-see for anyone interested in history and migration. It’s both educational and touching, making for a meaningful day out.

Day trip to Antwerp ,Belguim
We traveled to Antwerp, Belgium. The journey started from Amsterdam, Netherlands.
We used the Eurostar train service from Amsterdam central station to Antwerpen Central. We booked the 11.11 train and arrived at 12.30. The journey took about 1 hour and 20 minutes. We arrived and saw the grandeur of the most beautiful train station.
From the train station, it took about 15 minutes to walk to the center of the city. The buildings and churches were beautiful and magnificent. We spent time walking around the city until the evening, stopping by the museum, and chilling at the bar until it was time to return. We chose to return using the Eurostar service as usual at 20.30 and took a long ride to Amsterdam.
You can book train tickets through trip.com, everyone. It's very convenient. #antwerp #belgium
Dazed in Antwerp, the Diamond District
#wheretogo
This is Antwerp, Belgium.
It’s called the Diamond District because of its centuries-long history of being the capital of the jewellery industry, particularly diamonds!
Have you heard of this city’s name in movies? The thieves always refer to this place when it comes to selling their diamonds. That’s because this place has been the house of diamond cutters, polishers, and traders since the 17th century.
We arrived at the Antwerp train station: Antwerpen-Centraal with the first thing in mind - to try a Belgian waffle! And so we went straight to the mall area (the one saying Stadsfeestdzal in the photo) and sure enough, we found a Belgian Waffle stall.
The air was chilly, as it was autumn, nearing winter. So when I took a bite of that warm waffle with whipped cream on top, it was heavenly! I don’t know what makes a Belgian Waffle better in Belgium!?
It must be the batter!

Antwerp|The must try restaurant in summer
Sofie's Place
⭐️ Overall rating: 5/5
🍽 Recommendation: Thai beef salad
💁 Service: Good
💰 £40 per person
📍 Location: Graanmarkt 1, 2000 Antwerpen, Belgium
Sofie’s place is one of my favourite restaurants in Antwerp, and during summer time, I like sitting outside and having a drink with my friends here.
The food is high quality and freshly made. From the starter, Ceasar salade with some fresh seafood tastes awesome and the Tomatensalade burrata is fresh.
I ordered Thai beef salad and it tastes like Chinese food. The sweet sauce is impressive.

The place is about pleasuring senses
This is truly the place for your 5 senses satisfaction:
1. Sight: one can view the great masterpiece (Castle) made from chocolate as well enjoy the Chocolatier’s demonstrations.
2. Hearing: you can listen and learn the new unknown details about the production process and get to know the interesting historical details about chocolate.
3. Smell: chocolate smell in this museum increasing theta brain waves which trigged relaxation even with teenagers 😂.
4. Touch: it’s a miracle everything you touch in this museum turns into the chocolate (slightly exaggerating).
5. TASTE: 10 different flavors of chocolates to taste - heaven!
I will definitely recommend!

Beautiful Antwerp Central Station
Koningin Astridplein is a square in the center of the Belgian city of Antwerp. It leads to the De Keyserlei and the Carnotstraat among others. Right at the square, there is the beautiful Antwerp Central Station which many travellers and locals use to get to different cities and different areas of the city itself.
The Central station has a beautiful architecture and was built in 1905. This central station is one of the most beautiful central stations in the world, given its beautiful architecture and grandeur.
Just right beside it, you will find a popular destination which is the diamond street (De Keyserlei). There are also a lot of popular destinations around it.

Yummy Frites (Fries) in Antwerp
Frituur n°1 is a local fries store in Antwerp located in the city centre. They sell a few mainstream food dishes, mainly fast food and quick bites, but the fries were the highlight. Got to know of this place from a local, and there were many locals queuing up for it (but the queue moves very quickly). The locals recommended the most popular ones, which is just fries with beef stew and mayonnaise sauce. Fries were pretty nice! But note that this shop doesn’t accept any card payments, and only cash is accepted. There is also a seating area with plenty of seats but the toilet was sealed off, so no toilets were accessible.
4/5 and would recommend for a quick bite!

Belgian Waffle House in Antwerp
Address - Van Hecke Waffle House in Antwerp
Ambiance/Facilities - waffles were not too bad! The waffles were crispy and warm, but super light on the inside. Ambience wise, it was a small Waffle House but had enough seats to accommodate everyone. The owner was also very friendly and helped us move to a bigger table when it was available.
Highlights - We got a banana split and it was amazing! we also got a normal waffle with the whipped cream, it was nice on its own as well!
Avg. Price per Person - 10-15 euros depending on what you get. They have Belgian waffles and even main dishes. They also serve tea, hot chocolate, and many other drinks along with ice cream to go with your waffles.
Rating - 4.5/5

Must-go Brewery Tour in Antwerp!
Getting There - very near the city centre, just a short tram ride away to reach this brewery from Antwerpen city centre.
The brewery tour is a must go when you visit Antwerp! upon getting tickets, you get to enter the tour, it is a very interactive tour and you don’t need a tour guide. You may also enter anytime within the opening hours of the attraction. They also provide you with 2 free beers (one at the entrance and one near the end of the tour).
The brewery tour was very informative and fun, and a lot of effort was put into making the tour. we learnt about the different beers and some of the history of the famous beers in Antwerp and Belgium. #bucketlistreboot #tripblazers #antwerp #antwerpen #beer
Middelheimmuseum
This is a detail from Congoville, a free temporary exhibition at the open air museum Middelheimpark. Scroll to see further details.
In the exhibition,15 artists who were selected by the Belgian-Congolese art historian Sandrine Colard, show their vision on Congoville and the colonial traces in our society.
Special focus lies on the former Colonial College of Belgium whose building next to the Middelheimpark is now owned by University Antwerp. Foundet in 1920 and closed in 1962, it trained top civil servants to run the Belgian colonies. The garden also contains the director's villa in colonial style.
This photo shows the work of artist Maurice Mbikayi and is called ‘The Aesthetic Observer (2021) ‘.
Maurice Mbikayic, born in 1974 in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), lives and works in Cape Town (South Africa).
In the clothing of this figure we see keys from old computer keyboards. It refers to the raw materials needed in today's technology. The workers who extract the ores from the ground in Congo are still exploited thus enabling the Western way of life. Afterwards, the West often dumps the materials back in Africa as toxic waste.
By using this dumped materials in his art, Mbikayi denounces this reprehensible situation. At the same time it honorees the resilience of the African people, who have found endless ways to make the most of limited resources.
The dandy-like character of the figure refers to the Sapeurs from Brazzaville-Congo who are members of ‘La Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes’ which means that they belong to ‘the elite of élégance’.
They parade across the street like peacocks in striking clothing and create flamboyant identities for themselves showing they haven’t lost their free spirit and self respect.

Port of Antwerp
The new Port House, a combination of an old protected fire station from 1922 to a design by architect Emiel Van Averbeke with a new building around and above the old building according to a design by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid, is located on Siberiastraat. or Kaai 63 at the northern end of Kattendijkdok.
The combination of old and new led to divided opinions, but personally I think it is a real eyecatcher.
The British architect Zaha Hadid with Iraki roots (1950-2016) is known for her sensual interplay of lines in her designs and has built up an impressive international track.
Unfortunately she died unexpectedly before she could admire the finished result of this harbor house.
This successor to the old Port House employs 500 employees since 2016.
The new building looks like the hull of a ship with the facets of a diamond at its surface. It’s a reference to Antwerp as a world port and diamond city but also a metaphor for the port of the 21st century having a rich past and being ready for the future.
In March 2018, the Port House was awarded the annual prize of the MIPIM (Marché International des Professionnels de l'IMmobilier) in Cannes as "best refurbished building" (the best renovated building).
In the bow of the ship-shaped diamond, with a view on the harbor, you can get an explanation about the activities of the port of Antwerp.
In tribute to the architect, the square in front of the Port House is called Zaha Hadidplein.

Antwerp in Christmas: out of a fairy tale!
Belgium is well known by its amazing cozy Christmas markets. This December I had the chance to visit some of them, and by far, the Antwerp market was my favorite!
There were so many food options (I recommend a delicious warm wine to warm up during the cold nights) and also many stalls that sold hats, scarfs and very cute ornaments. Additionally, there was a Clouseau concert when we were there and the vibes were amazing! All of the locals were in such a good mood 😜
Would absolutely recommend to visit this beautiful city! Also try Philip’s cookies for the “hands of Antwerp” amazing! #antwerp #christmas #christmasmarket
Antwerp Central Station: One of the most beautiful train station in the World
Antwerp Central Station is located in the heart of the city, at the Koningin Astridplein. It borders the Antwerp Zoo on one side and the Antwerp Diamond District on the other.
Antwerp Central Station is a crown jewel of Belgium’s architectural heritage, stands as a testament to the grandeur and ingenuity of the 19th century. The station is often referred to as the “Railway Cathedral” due to its grand architecture, including a large dome inspired by the Pantheon in Rome.
Remember to visit this beautiful train station when you are in Antwerp!

Philip's Biscuits - Only available in Antwerp
Only in Antwerp, remember to visit this cookie shop when you are there.
Make sure to try the Antwerp hands (Antwerpse Handjes). These cookies, handmade in the shape of a hand, have been a typical regional product of Antwerp.
The little hand refers to the legend of the giant Druon Antigoon, who demanded a high toll from the ships that passed by on river Schelde. Boatmen who refused to pay the toll lost their right hand, which the giant chopped off and threw into the river. The Roman hero Silvius Brabo challenged the giant, killed him and chopped off his right hand.
The story is fortunately in stark contrast to the delicious taste of the Antwerp Hands!

Nello and Patrasche
This statue dedicated to the story of a Flemish boy and his dog near to the Cathedral of Our Lady.
The Novella, A Dog of Flanders was written by Ouida in 1872. It centered around the lives of Nello, a young orphan boy aspiring to be a painter, and his dog Patrasche. The story is not very famous in the region despite it being set in Antwerp, but was a big hit in Japan, Korea, and the Philippines.
The climactic moment of A Dog of Flanders follows a desperate Nello, who after being wrongly accused of causing a fire in his village, goes to the cathedral in Antwerp to see his idol Rubens’s “The Elevation of the Cross” and “The Descent of the Cross.” However, he was out of money and unable to see the artwork. On Christmas Eve, Nello and his dog stayed at the cathedral when they found the doors open. The next morning, the boy and his dog are discovered frozen to death under his favorite artist’s painting.
Worthwhile visit while visiting the Cathedral of Our Lady.

De Roma Antwerp is one of the coolest venues you'll see
We saw Interpol at De Roma Antwerp. An antique former Cinema and theatre. It's rather large and greatly air conditioned, offers a free cloak room and a bar with very acceptable prices and a variety of drinks, including champagne for 5 euros and a great choice of different beers with prices starting at 3 euros, all served in recyclable appropriate glasses. The acoustics are beyond great and the venue even offers a balcony lounge with seats. #antwerp #historicallandmarks #deroma #concert #vintage #venueguide #venue
Cute Antwerp old town
The Antwerp old town is so lovely, especially at night. The square behing the cathedral features many shops, restaurants, tratorias seem to be quite popular and for a moment you might even feel like you're in Italy. Since it was Sunday, some restaurants had long queues so we opted to buy Waffles and Prosecco at the Carefour express supermarket, which is open till late even on Sundays and enjoy them by the canal bank. #historicallandmarks #deliciousfood #antwerp #belgium
Legit authentic Malaysian food in Antwerp
Having spend a few months of my life in Singapore, I have come to discover and explore the Malaysian cuisine. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dishes on offer were in fact authentic Malay and not, as happens more often than not, a watered down, Westernised version that wants to appeal to a wide audience of uninitiated by-passers and tourists. This is the only restaurant that I know of offering these foods in Antwerp (or Belgium for that matter).
The coconut rice was very good. It was creamy and really had the essence of coconut in it without starting to feel like a dessert dish. The rendang and satay were tasty, although spices were definitely toned down. Next time I might let the waiter know that I don’t mind spicy food.
In essence, if you are interested in exploring a new cuisine and you haven’t tried Malay cuisine before, definitely try this restaurant. And if you know Malay cuisine and wonder were you can find it, this would be the place to be.

Antwerpen Meir Shoppingstreet
While shopping on Meir Street you will pass a sculpture of a super-sized hand. Many take pictures there and it is also an ideal climbing wall for young (and sometimes slightly older) children.
You will find 'hands' all over Antwerp. It is the symbol for the city as it refers to Antwerp’s legend of origin with the giant Druon Antigoon who cut off hands of passing skippers on the Scheldt who refused to pay tolls until the giant was killed by the Roman Silvius Brabo.
As a revenge Brabo cut off Antigoon's hand and threw it in the Scheldt. After this the Scheldt became toll-free.
There are cookies called ‘Antwerpse Handjes’ which exist since 1934, next to the harbor house you will find a huge severed hand by artist Bruno Kristo and on the outer walls of Mas museum you can even spot 3000 aluminium hands. On Grote Markt you have the epic fountain with the sculpture of the Roman Brabo throwing away the hand of the giant Antigoon and this theme is repeated again on a smaller scale if you have an eye for it. Look for example at the figure on top of the Quinten Matsijs well on Handschoenmarkt.
This sculpture is by the artist Henri de Miller, born in France in 1953. He is not only a sculptor, he also designs gardens and parks. The original sculpture was made in 1986 and includes a head in addition to the hand. It is entitled l'Ecoute which means listening and stands next to the Saint-Eustache church in Paris, close to the Forum des Halles. The title of the work refers to the underground, the head listens to the sounds of the metro.
Antwerp bought the work in 1991 but placed only the hand on Meir in 1992 despite the artist's protest.

Saint Paul's Church
Saint Paul's Church is a beacon in the old skippers quarter of Antwerp. A big surprise awaits you.
The church was part of a grand monastery complex of the Dominicans. They settled in Antwerp as early as the 1240s to proclaim the ‘true faith’. The church itself dates from 1571 and has been through a lot since then. In 1796 the French occupier closed the monastery and classified the church as a parish church. Fortunately, her belongings were spared. In 1968 she fell prey to a large fire from which she is fully recovered in the meanwhile.
The church is a feast for the eyes with the beautiful baroque altars, the sublime furniture, the important organ, the more than 200 statues and 50 paintings, among which works by Jordaens, Rubens, Teniers, Van Balen, Van Dyck…
The calvary garden, which you only get to see after you have passed the porch of the church, looks like a fragment from an epic film about Christ's suffering and resurrection.
St. Paul's Church is a Gothic building (late Middle Ages), but its furniture and works of art date mainly from the Baroque 17th century, as does the remarkable crowning of the 'lantern tower'. The portal also breathes Baroque. The depth effect in the church is remarkable, partly because of the very long choir. Light and space play their virtuoso game here, in a wonderful harmony of strict Gothic and dynamic Baroque.
An additional surprise is the treasury chamber with art pieces from 8 centuries!
If you enter the backyard of the church via St. Paulusstraat, you can relax between the greenery at a beautiful contemplative Maria cave.
