Wengen in Autumn: A Golden Paradise in the Alps
#europetrip #switzerland #wengen
Visiting Wengen in autumn felt like stepping into a dream. This charming car-free village in Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland sits at 1,274 meters on a sunny terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We took the scenic train ride from Lauterbrunnen, passing through lush valleys and alpine meadows, and the journey itself was unforgettable. Once we arrived, we were captivated by the contrast of golden autumn leaves and snow-capped peaks. Strolling through the peaceful village, we listened to the gentle sound of cowbells echoing in the crisp mountain air. The views of the snowy mountains combined with the vibrant foliage and the iconic Swiss trains made it feel like we were walking through a living postcard.
If you can only visit Switzerland once, you must hike the Jungfrau.
🌟[Top of Europe]🌟
In the Swiss Alps, there is a place that captivates the imagination - the Jungfrau, at an altitude of 4,158 meters. It is the "roof" of Europe and a sacred place in the hearts of countless travelers. Let's embark on this unforgettable journey together!
📍**Location Information**
The Jungfrau is located in the Bernese Oberland, about 18 km southeast of Interlaken. It spans the cantons of Bern and Valais and is part of the Bernese Alps.
✨**Attraction Introduction**
The Jungfrau is renowned for its spectacular natural scenery, offering views of rolling mountains, deep valleys, and the longest glacier in Europe - the Aletsch Glacier. From the observation deck at the summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the majestic Alps.
🚞**Transportation Guide**
- **How to Get to the Jungfrau:**
- From Interlaken, take the Golden Pass Line or Bernina Express to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald.
- Then transfer to the Jungfrau Railway, a historic cogwheel railway that takes you through mountain tunnels to the summit.
- **Suggested Itinerary:**
- Depart from Interlaken in the morning, transfer to the Jungfrau Railway at Kleine Scheidegg, passing the foot of the Eiger and Mönch peaks.
- Upon arrival at the Jungfrau station, visit the "Alpine Sensation" circular corridor to learn about the history of the railway and the magnificent scenery of the Alps.
- Don't miss the ice sculpture exhibition in the Ice Palace and the outdoor snow hiking.
🏨**Accommodation Recommendations**
- **Interlaken**: Located on the way to the Jungfrau, there are many hotels and inns to choose from. We recommend the Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, a five-star luxury hotel with an excellent location and comfortable accommodations.
- **Lauterbrunnen**: If you want to be closer to nature, you can stay in Lauterbrunnen. The Hotel Belvédère is a good choice, offering traditional Swiss-style rooms and beautiful mountain views.

Beautiful alpine village nestled in the mountains with an amazing view of the Jungfrau valley and Lauterbrunnen down below. Taking the train up to Wengen will guarantee you a lovely view of Lauterbrunnen.
The village has shops, attractions and amenities within walking distance. Though, if you do decide to get a resort/hotel further up, be sure to ask for shuttle cars, the upwards slopes are no joke.
Our hotel had a lovely view of the cable car rides up to Männlichen, the street below and at night- if you’re willing to stand in the 14 degrees cold (even in summer) you can get a good picture of the night sky!
Of course, we couldn’t stay in Wengen without visiting Männlichen and her famous Royal Walk- a short hike of 1.7km, with elevations up to 80-120m up/down, grants you a truly breathtaking panoramic view. ((the gravel paths can be a bit slippery so be careful on the way down))
The trail from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg was an overall downhill walk with a view of Grindelwald down below and the snow capped mountains. But before you embark on this trail be sure to either get something to eat or drink (and the WC of course) at Männlichen as it is quite a long walk (about 4.7km). Near the midpoint you can see Eiger! A truly memorable walk with amazing scenery of the town below and mountains all around us.
Truly a scenic paradise with plenty of activities to do, whether you prefer to simply enjoy the views or try out some of their more thrilling activities. It was my first time visiting Switzerland but certainly won’t be the last!#switzerland #summervacation #nature #alps
Grindelwald: A crime if you miss it!
Get here by train! We came via Basel and just enjoyed the scenic views from the huge train windows. Lake, villages, mountains, you won’t want to close your eyes!
Coming here in early autumn, we escaped the crowds and could explore First, Eiger, and Jungfraujoch with ease and little wait time. The mountains are magnificent all thru the year! The colours of the landscape will change and hiking to the Balchapsee is an experience in itself. Discovering WCs in the middle of nowhere, up
in the mountains, complete with toilet tissue is something only the Swiss can guarantee!
There are many hotels in this little village and all are within walking distance of the train station. We stayed at the Eiger Aparthotel as we wanted to prepare our own meals to save cost. Bookings come with daily afternoon tea and the variety of cakes, teas and coffees were an absolute treat!
There are many cafes around for fondue and all sorts of local delights. We opted to explore the two supermarkets for raw ingredients and cooked up our own dinners at a fraction of the cost of eating out. Do check out the different yogurt flavours, types of cheese, and cured meats too!
As it is a tourist destination, you can get souvenirs and major brands here. There is a post office (to send postcards) and some banks if you need forex.
My #2023travelwish is to drop by this beautiful place again in the SUMMER and take in the wonders of creation ❤️

This viewing platform is at an altitude of 2342 meters, offering a better view of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau peaks. Today's weather is clear and sunny. When hiking to the viewing platform, the clouds hovering over the peaks look like flying saucers circling the mountains, which is very spectacular.
It is said that if you look at the green hill below the peaks from here, it looks like a toad with its mouth wide open facing the Jungfrau. I named this scene 'A Toad Wants to Eat Swan Meat.'

💗Other Tips: I have been to this place once before. That time, I was in Wengen, saw the top of the mountain was fine, so I took the cable car up. As soon as I got up, the mountain was shrouded in thick fog. The good thing about buying a pass is that you can take unlimited rides, and if the weather changes, you can immediately change your plans without extra cost.

A must-visit fairy hotel in Switzerland
An unexpectedly discovered treasure hotel, when checking in, the front desk said that a room with a very good view was arranged. Pushing the door to see, it was indeed not exaggerated. The room has two balconies, basically equivalent to a 180-degree panoramic room, you can directly see several snow-capped mountains, town scenery and small trains. All the pictures above are balcony views, p9 is even taken in the bathroom. However, later the doors of other rooms on my floor were all open, and the layout was relatively ordinary, so you can make a note when booking.
This hotel has a history of nearly thirty years, but it is very well maintained. I stayed in Grindelwald for two days later, and I still feel more comfortable here, quiet and beautiful, without traces of excessive commercialization. If you can't book the most popular hotels in Switzerland, this one is a good substitute. Walk to the right for five minutes after getting off the train, and if you have a lot of luggage, you can call the hotel for a shuttle bus.

Wengen Wonders: Autumn Strolls, Friendships
#fallishere
Wengen, nestled in the Swiss Alps, boasts a rich history dating back to the 19th century when it emerged as a tourist destination. Its car-free charm and stunning vistas of the Jungfrau Massif attract visitors year-round. This idyllic village, perched on a sunny terrace, is renowned for its ski slopes in winter and hiking trails in summer.
One enchanting autumn morning, my friend and I embarked on a leisurely walk through Wengen's picturesque streets. The golden hues of the leaves, crisp mountain air, and the distant sound of cowbells created a serene atmosphere. As we strolled past charming chalets and flower-adorned balconies, the village seemed to come alive with a timeless beauty. This shared experience in Wengen etched a vivid memory, blending the allure of nature with the warmth of friendship.
Starry Night
Braving the 13 degrees cold with nothing but a shirt and shorts wasn’t a good idea but it was so worth it to see the night sky in Wengen. Unpolluted by light, the village offers an amazing view of the night sky.

Travel | Switzerland 🇨🇭 is definitely the country you must visit once in a lifetime.
After studying abroad for several years, I consider myself to have traveled to many mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas. However, Switzerland's beauty is unique and I want to visit this country many times again. 💚
📍The photos were taken in Wengen and Iseltwald respectively.
Wake me up when October ends
It was a rush decision when I made a booking on this hotel. I was supposed to stay for an overnight at Lauterbrunnen but since I’m on a budget, I chose the cheapest one. Thinking that Wengen is just few minutes away from Lauterbrunnen via train.
When I got there, I was a bit scared of the deafening silence of that town. I guess it was already 7 or 8 pm. But the short hair receptionist welcomed me with her beautiful smile. She assured that the town is safe to walk at that time.
The hotel is a bit old but well maintained. I like the piano, the creepy yet fascinating lift, the funny double doors which I lately realised and the breathtaking view from my balcony. I couldn’t ask for more, and it’s very homy. Seems like I’m just in my vintage room and not in a hotel. #switzerland #hotelfalken # hotel #swissalps #morningview #balconyview #wengen #fallingforfall #mountainview #swiss
