💡On February 4th, we commemorate #WorldCancerDay At #ArcturTeam, we are deeply committed to combating the global cancer epidemic. Our mission is clear: to champion early cancer detection, enhance treatment options, and ensure equitable access to life-saving care for all individuals. Thus together with partners, we are paving the way towards a future where every patient's journey is met with hope, resilience, and unwavering support. 📈Shocking statistics reveal that as of 2023, 1 in every 8 women (13%) will face a breast cancer diagnosis at some point in their lives, according to the ACS. Yet, breast cancer isn't exclusive to women; approximately 2,800 new cases of invasive breast cancer are anticipated in men as well. 🔬Our team recently finalised work in the #EU R&D project #Qustom, where we 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. This innovative approach leverages three-dimensional ultrasound images processed by a supercomputer and augmented by artificial intelligence in real-time, offering precise assessments of the likelihood of cancerous formations. In the long term, we envision that ultrasound tomography could supplant many other imaging modalities in screening due to its avoidance of radiography risks. 🌎Last week, the #ArcturTeam visited Spain. We started by attending the NOUS consortium meeting in Salamanca on 16-17 January, where we discussed project updates and celebrated the first anniversary of the project. 🤝Next, we traveled to Barcelona to meet our colleagues at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación, who kindly gave us a tour of their fascinating tech environment. We had the opportunity to visit one of the EU's flagship HPC systems, Marenostrum 5, as well as the first quantum computer in the EU, Quantum Spain. 🎤To wrap up our trip, we attended the HiPEAC conference, a premier European forum for experts in computer architecture, programming models, and software. There, we had the chance to reconnect with partners and friends, and were graciously hosted by our colleagues from Eclipse Foundation Europe. Filled with new energy, knowledge, insights, and great networking, we’re now ready to kick off a new week of work.
