A creative environment for the development of innovative projects that meet the challenges of the 21st century.
About us
The Rog Factory, symbol of the cult Rog bicycles, is the most important piece of 20th century industrial heritage in Ljubljana. Thanks, both to the way it is being restored and to the plans for its future use, the building will retain its original function, updated for the 21st century: serving as a public production space for the cultural and creative industries, with an emphasis on makers culture, crafts and applied arts. As a place of encounters and cross-pollination, Center Rog will connect diverse and mission-driven creatives, aiming to create a new model for production space that will provide both infrastructural and programming support to the creative sector, whether that be small and medium enterprises, non-governmental organisations or independent creators, while also promoting the interdisciplinary cooperation required to tackle the challenges posed by the rapidly changing technological, cultural, economic and social environment. In terms of its content, the Center will be devoted to the support of socially useful projects, while adhering to the principles of environmental protection, the circular economy and social justice. Center Rog is based on the vision of building the first fully equipped interdisciplinary creative hub in Slovenia. In 2008, the City of Ljubljana took part in the Second Chance project, funded by the European Union, to evaluate the initial plans for the site. This project involved over 300 stakeholders and resulted in a new vision for the Center Rog. Since 2012 this new vision has been tested and refined by more than 6000 users and partners in RogLab, a pilot project awarded The Eurocities network Innovation Award in 2018. The site is now being renovated and will re-open in 2023, while the public institution Center Rog Creative Hub has already been funded by the council of the City of Ljubljana in summer 2021.

And that's a wrap on the inaugural RogDesignDays! The festival exceeded all our expectations with RogCreathon, a 48-hour design sprint where young designers from all over the world came up with innovative solutions to 5 design challenges presented to them. At RogForum, we exchanged knowledge and experiences with experts from similar organizations. In a creative atmosphere, new ideas and projects were already being born. Last but not least, we opened RogExpo, an annual exhibition presenting products and prototypes that were created at Center Rog during our first year of operation. RogExpo will be on display until February 8, 2025, so if you're in Ljubljana, come and visit it. We're already looking forward to next year's RogDesignDays, which will take place between November 10 and 14, 2025. We're happy to announce that the topic of next year's edition of RogDesignDays is Boundaries and Frictions. Thank you to everyone who participated this year, and see you next year! #RogDesignDays #RogCreathon #RogExpo #RogForum

[ROGDESIGNDAYS – HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY 4 AND DAY 5] We wraped up RogDesignDays with a 2-day international conference RogForum with related organisations. The first three panels discussed how to become a good ancestor, sharing experiences of design residencies around the world with interesting guests and exchanging views on how to create environments and cultures that foster innovative thinking and collaborative efforts. We finished RogForum with discussions about how can traditional materials and techniques be integrated into contemporary design, explored the impact of contemporary practices on today's design challenges, and paid special attention to empowering children as equal participants in shaping the future of our planet. More than 100 visitors from all over the world joined us in the debate. The official programme was accompanied by a fashion and ceramics Makers Market, and participants from all over the world had the opportunity to draw their portraits on ceramic tiles. These portraits will find their place on a community portrait that is being created on one of the walls in the park in front of the Center Rog. #RogDesignDays #RogCreathon #RogExpo #RogForum

[ROGDESIGNDAYS - HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY 3] We opened RogExpo, the annual exhibition of products and prototypes created by both amateur makers and professional designers during the first year of operation of Center Rog. Innovative design pieces from our project studios and residency programme were juxtaposed with the bold young creative ideas developed by the users of the Young at Rog programme and the beautiful group products created in the relaxed atmosphere of the evening circles - from knitting to experimenting with biomaterials. The exhibition was curated by Alja Fir and Anja Radović. The spatial design of the exhibition was designed by the design duo Sara&Sara (Sara Škarica and Sara Badovinac). RogExpo will be on show until 8 February 2025. #rogdizajndnevi #rogdesigndays #rogexpo

[ROGDIZAJNDNEVI - HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY 3] The first RogCreathon has come to an end. We were blown away by the outstanding design solutions of our creative teams. They turned scrap iron and rubber into unique baskets and lanterns. They built a mock-up of a public space that invites strangers to talk. They used fabric scraps to create new fashion pieces, straight for the catwalk. They designed two cradles inspired by a bird's nest. The jury had a very tough job. But they were most convinced by the solution of the team that took on Challenge 4, presenting a vision of home in 2045 that combines traditional crafts with AI tools. We were so impressed with all the products that we included them in the RogExpo exhibition. Congratulations to all the teams! 👏 #rogdizajndnevi #rogdesigndays #rogkreaton #rogcreathon
