📢 Exciting News! 📢 Publication of a Groundbreaking Study on Pilot Project 3: Autonomous Shipping Technology Enhanced by AI We are thrilled to announce that our partner #UNIRI #FIDIT, has published their latest study in the prestigious SCI journal, Ocean Engineering. The study, titled "A Computer Vision Approach to Estimate the Localized Sea State," presents a revolutionary method for enhancing maritime safety and efficiency through real-time sea state recognition. 🌊🚢 In this innovative research, the team applied state-of-the-art computer vision and deep learning techniques to analyze sea images captured from a single stationary camera positioned on the ship's bridge. Leveraging this data, they trained a deep learning model to automatically classify sea states according to the Beaufort scale. The model utilizes advanced neural networks, including ResNet-101, NASNet, MobileNet_v2, and Transformer ViT-b32, and was fine-tuned using transfer learning on a unique, large-scale dataset collected from a vessel across diverse sea conditions. The study’s findings suggest that this approach can effectively complement traditional sea state measurements, providing valuable insights even when in-situ measurements are challenging or buoy data may be less accurate. This research paves the way for future advancements in sea state classification, fostering safer and more efficient maritime operations while contributing to carbon reduction targets. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive forward innovations in maritime research! #INNO2MARE #AutonomousShipping #AI #ComputerVision #DeepLearning #SeaStateRecognition #MaritimeSafety #GreenTransition #CarbonReduction #MaritimeResearch #Innovation
