About us
The NEB Academy, a flagship initiative of the European Commission, is set out to accelerate the up- and re-skilling of construction professionals. A network of training hubs across Europe bundles regional competencies and facilitates access to training contents on sustainability, circularity and bio-based materials. A strong partnership of universities, regional training centres, authorities and EU associations has kicked of the NEBA Alliance to co-create this novel platform for the construction sector. The NEBA Alliance consortium is co-funded by the Horizon Europe programme of the European Union. The project is supported by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking and its members (grant agreement no. 101160532). 📢 New #EUBioeconomy report! 💡 Unlocking the full potential of the EU's bioeconomy requires more than just innovative technologies and policies - it demands a collaborative approach that brings together diverse stakeholders and perspectives The latest report, "Enhancing Stakeholder Involvement in EU Bioeconomy Policy", sheds a light on the critical role that stakeholder engagement plays in shaping a sustainable and circular bioeconomy. 🌍 On 4 December 2024, the European Wood Policy Platform, in partnership with the Bundesministerium für Land- und Forstwirtschaft, Regionen und Wasserwirtschaft, Ministrstvo za gospodarstvo, turizem in šport / Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport and InnoRenew CoE, co-organised the Prologue V: Education and Vocational Training "Perspectives from the New European Bauhaus Academy on upskilling and reskilling the wood construction sector" at the 28th International Wood Construction Conference in Innsbruck, Austria. ✨This event highlighted the importance of complementing education and training in the 🌳🪵🌲wood construction sector with strong policy support, focusing on: ✅Bridging skills gaps ✅Fostering interdisciplinary collaboration ✅Promoting the sector as an attractive career path ✅Addressing climate challenges through 🌱 sustainable practices. 💡 Discussions also showcased the New European Bauhaus and the NEB Academy as key initiatives for 📈upskilling and 🔄reskilling, driving innovation, and preparing the wood construction workforce for a climate-positive future. A good overview study of higher #education in #wood related programmes across Europe - a first step to better understanding the institutional landscape and evolving programmes that are key to upscaling the role of the wood sector. Check it out!
🌲 Is there enough wood education for the future of the wood industry? As the demand for sustainable wood products grows, so does the need for skilled professionals in the wood industry. 📚 InnovaWood network's latest study Mapping the European wood education community sheds light on the current state of higher education (HE) in this sector. ➡️ Here's what we uncovered: 🔹 154 institutions offer wood-related higher education (HE) programs, divided into: • 64 institutions where wood is the primary focus of study • 90 institutions where wood is included as part of a broader discipline 🔹 These institutions provide 400 programs at Bahelor’s, Master’s, and PhD levels: • 158 Bachelor’s (BSc), 173 Master’s (MSc), and 69 PhD programs. 📌 Around one-third focus exclusively on #wood, while two-thirds integrate wood within broader disciplines such as #sustainable construction, architecture, and materials science. This diverse education ecosystem reflects the complexity of wood as a material. Programs range from core #woodscience to interdisciplinary fields like Green Building Engineering, Renewable Raw Materials, and beyond. ➡️ But here’s where it gets challenging: 🔹 Traditional wood programs (focused solely on wood science) are evolving, often merging into broader “sustainability narratives.” Are we losing the “wood identity” as we integrate it with other materials? 🔹 Can interdisciplinary programs be the roots that attract more students to wood-related fields?
