TOP TIPS FOR LEADING SUSTAINABLE CHANGE... One of the big challenges over the next few years, regarding #HR #ProfessionalDevelopment strategies is not how we just develop the individual but how do we develop the #culture of our whole organisation... it is the key to developing #Sustainable #Change... 1. Change for the right reasons; change must be driven by vision and a deep sense of purpose not as a reaction to external forces. If the motivation is wrong you will end up creating just another initiative that will end up in the cupboard labelled; been there, tried it…next! 2. Top down change can disenfranchise very quickly; you must invest time and energy building capacity and context, so that people inside your organisation have an active role in developing new practices and systems. 3. Use the process of distillation: Work hard to develop a culture where you regularly ask and encourage BIG abstract questions that lead to a culture of action research, insist on honest feedback and conversations, keep your ears open and evolve strategy from the common themes. 4. Work hard to sell change as a lifestyle, an internal brand; what do we stand for and how do we behave? 5. Invest time and effort in broadening people’s horizons; change and innovation can only occur if people have new experiences to draw on. Revision staff development and get people to spend time in settings other than there daily routine and beyond their jobs. Change cannot happen if people can only recycle what they know; they must get out more! 6. Work hard to involve everybody the great ideas are not dependent on pay grades! Mix it up and get people swapping jobs and pushing their comfort zones on a regular basis. 7. Change takes time and is an evolution not a pre-packaged policy or system. You cannot deliver change, it must be evolved. 8. Remember the mantra: Communication, Empowerment, Impact
