On this International Mother Tongue Day, let’s amplify the voices that matter most. Advocating for bail rights in one’s native language is crucial in ensuring fair representation and understanding in the legal system. Language should never be a barrier to justice. By allowing women to read and comprehend their rights in their mother tongue, we can prevent wrongful admissions of guilt and empower them to stand up for themselves. Together, let’s champion a justice system that speaks every language. Help us achieve our mission by giving to - https://lnkd.in/d7Kq-AyG #InternationalMotherTongueDay #BailRights #LanguageJustice

As we approach #WorldDayofSocialJustice on February 20, 2025, let’s reflect on the profound effects of climate change on women and girls in Sierra Leone. These resilient caregivers, farmers, and breadwinners face the brunt of environmental challenges, leading to dwindling crop yields and escalating debt that can spiral into incarceration. Our latest blog looks at the critical issues around the intersection between social justice and climate change and highlights the urgent need for change. A warm and hearty welcome to Francess Gegbai, our newest fellow from the Clooney Foundation for Justice under the Waging Justice for Women Fellowship. Francess is a vibrant and dedicated lawyer from Sierra Leone who is serving her fellowship with AdvocAid Sierra Leone. She holds a Law (LLB) degree from the University of Sierra Leone, Fourah Bay College, and completed her bar at the Sierra Leone Law School. She also holds a certificate in leadership from the Soul of Africa Youth Leadership (SoAYL). She is skilled in the areas of leadership, gender justice, equality for women and girls, and advocating for the rights of vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, youths, etc. She has worked closely with various organisations in advancing and advocating for the rights of these vulnerable and marginalized groups. Her drive for justice for women and girls is fueled by the injustice and discrimination she experienced as a young woman and has seen other women face as well. She’s also driven by her quest to serve and give back to her society. As the AdvocAid team, we look forward to working with you in creating meaningful change and empowering those who need it most. #ClooneyFoundationforJustice #WagingforJustice #AdvocAid

Education must remain human-centered in an increasingly automated world. On this International Day of Education, AdvocAid reflects on the theme AI and Education: Human Agency in an Automated World. While technology can expand access to learning, it is meaningful, personal connections that truly empower. AdvocAid blends formal, informal, and life-skills-based education to support incarcerated women and girls in Sierra Leone during and after detention. From legal literacy workshops and life skills training in financial literacy and entrepreneurship to vocational programs like tailoring and soap-making, we foster self-reliance and resilience. Education on human rights, gender-based violence, and health promotes holistic growth, while adult literacy programs build confidence and open new opportunities. These efforts address systemic barriers, equipping women and girls with the tools to rebuild their lives and reduce the risk of reoffending. Automation can enhance education, but equity, justice, and human dignity must remain at the heart of learning. Together let us ensure innovation creates inclusive systems that uplift all. Let us commit to keeping education transformative, personal, and centered on humanity, ensuring that technological advancements serve to enhance, rather than diminish, the human experience in learning. #EducationForJustice #HumanCenteredLearning #AIandEducation #AdvocAid #DignityThroughLearning

Health is a right, not a privilege. On this International Universal Health Coverage Day, AdvocAid stands firm in our commitment to ensuring that every woman and girl, especially those who come into contact with the law, receive the healthcare they deserve. In Sierra Leone, incarcerated women frequently face daunting systemic barriers that hinder their access to essential health services, including reproductive care, mental health support, and trauma treatment. These challenges not only compromise their well-being but also undermine the fundamental principle of justice that we must uphold. Under the theme 'Health: It's on the Government,' we urge policymakers to make stronger investments in health systems that prioritise dignity and justice for all individuals, regardless of their circumstances. Together, we can advocate for inclusive policies that leave no one behind, especially the most marginalised in our society. Let’s unite to amplify our voices and ensure that health equity becomes a reality for every woman and girl, to foster a healthier, more just world for all. #UniversalHealthCoverage #HealthEquity #AdvocAid #HealthIsARight
