INTERN IN THE ECONOMIC SECTION "Hello everyone, My name is Mark van Goor, and I’m 22 years old. Over the next few months, I will be interning with the economic department of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Senegal, until July. I’m currently pursuing a Master's in International Relations at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, after completing my Bachelor's in International Business last year. During my Erasmus exchange at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics in 2024, I took several courses on geopolitics and political economy, which sparked my passion for international relations. To gain hands-on experience in this field, I decided to apply for an internship at the Dutch Embassy in Senegal. I’m excited to expand my knowledge of international relations, economics, and also improve my French, which I’m eager to refine. During my time at the embassy, I’ll be working on a project focused on the economic opportunities for the Dutch private sector in the #Casamance region, while also addressing social development goals for the area. I’m looking forward to gaining valuable insights and immersing myself in the culture and beauty of #Senegal. Can’t wait to get started!" Elise Antoine Süleyman T. Rogier Hekking Carmen Hagenaars

RECIPIENT OF THE ORANGE KNOWLEDGE PROGRAMME SCHOLARSHIP " I am Seydina Cisse and I have a diverse academic and professional background, from American literature and civilization to a major in Social Policy for Development at International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam Erasmus University Rotterdam. ISS deepened my understanding of critical social, economic issues affecting both the global South and North. Prior to that, I earned a master’s degree in community development at Yonsei university in South Korea. My professional journey began as a teacher, working in both rural and urban settings. This experience developed my interest in community development, focusing on improving the education of the most vulnerable people. I am confident that there are many 'unheard or silent voices and talents' to be unpacked in those areas. I am dedicated to giving my time and energy co-creating sustainable solutions for current and future generations. I am committed to working with young people, mainly girls, to empower them through education to achieve their full social and economic potential. Beyond my role as a civil servant, I volunteer with various local and national organizations to advocate and raise about the positive impact of girls’ education on society. Nuffic Global Development

🌿 Strengthening Collaboration for Biodiversity and Sustainable Agriculture As part of the #biodiversity strategy our embassy is developing, we had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from UICN Afrique Occidentale et Centrale to explore opportunities for future collaboration. IUCN West Africa plays a crucial role in biodiversity conservation, sustainable natural resource management, and climate resilience across the region. Their initiatives—such as The Green List, BIODEV30 in which they closely link agriculture and biodiversity—align closely with our mission. IUCN has been a valued partner of the embassy for many years, supporting the integration of biodiversity into political decision-making. Although collaboration has been less active in the past six years, this meeting marked an important step in renewing our strong connection. We see great potential to work together in strengthening biodiversity integration within our horticulture project in the Niayes region https://lnkd.in/eV-QB7eR and developing nature-based solutions to combat coastal degradation. Looking forward to a productive and impactful partnership! 🌍🌱 Tristan Rovan Ben Kubbinga Viviane Ndamba Djeumen

STUDY ON COMMUNITY AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES We had the opportunity to present the results of the study on the implementation of Community Agricultural Cooperatives (CAC). This project, supported by the Netherlands, marks a significant step forward in supporting producers towards a more structured and sustainable model. Deloitte and Delphy presented the action plan for the installation of Senegal's first Community Agricultural Cooperative (CAC), located in Diender. The meeting brought together several donors and strategic partners, as well as agricultural cooperatives. A rich exchange that reinforces the collective commitment to a more inclusive and efficient agriculture. The Netherlands is offering to provide its expertise to work with existing cooperatives in Diender to identify what needs to be done to achieve financial profitability. The Djender town council has made 120 ha of land available for the project. This initiative is part of the Senegalese government's drive to strengthen the agricultural sector and better organize producers at local level. #Agriculture #Cooperatives #Senegal #Partnership #RuralDevelopment #AgriculturalInnovation, #CAC Viviane Ndamba Djeumen Ben Kubbinga

🌿 Collaboration for Biodiversity and Sustainable Agriculture in Senegal 🌿 As part of the #biodiversity strategy our embassy is working on https://lnkd.in/eHpeNARi, we had the pleasure of welcoming Issa Ouedraogo from the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT to the embassy. During the meeting, we explored potential collaborations between CIAT and the embassy, building on our previous discussions. CIAT plays a key role in promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices, climate information services, and agroecological methods. This contributes to a sustainable synergy between nature and #agriculture in #Senegal. The embassy fully supports this vision, which aligns closely with our efforts to develop the horticulture sector in the Niayes region: https://lnkd.in/eV-QB7eR. Here, we focus on strengthening #foodsecurity while promoting biodiversity-friendly farming practices. We mapped out CIAT’s active regions in Senegal and identified key priority areas. We look forward to further exploring collaboration opportunities that benefit both parties and contributes to a more sustainable future! 🌍🌱 Tristan Rovan Viviane Ndamba Djeumen Ben Kubbinga

Eliminating sleeping sickness in #Guinea is not only a major public health achievement but also a boost to the country's economic growth. A healthier population means increased productivity and greater workforce participation. This highlights both the health and economic benefits in a clear and positive way. Rogier Hekking Carmen Hagenaars Sandra Z. Süleyman T.
🎉 It's a mix of trapping flies, radio outreach, door-to-door campaigns, and innovative new drugs 💊 that have brought us to this moment. This #WorldNTDDay we celebrate Guinea for successfully eliminating sleeping sickness! 👏 Once the most affected country in West Africa, Guinea has now eliminated this terrible disease as a public health problem. World Health Organization has validated that the country now sees less than 1 case for every 10,000 people. Caused by parasites transmitted by the bite of a tsetse fly 🪰, #SleepingSickness is often not diagnosed until it causes severe neurological symptoms, such as sleep disruption and confusion. Left untreated, it is usually fatal. 🤝 With Sanofi and our committed partners and donors, DNDi is proud to have contributed to this triumph of science by developing safe and effective treatments for sleeping sickness. We are still running trials in Guinea for acoziborole, a potential new drug that can be given at the village level and treat the disease in one single dose. Its simplicity and efficacy could make it a critical tool for sustaining this progress and preventing the disease from resurging. 💊 🔬 📽️ Watch our movie, created in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, IRD and Institut Pasteur de Guinée produced by Moronga Films. 🤝 Read our immersive story on front-line heroes in their search for those very last sleeping sickness cases (and the pesky tse-tse flies!) https://lnkd.in/e5KXdJN6 #BölëtMouna #BeatNTDs #EndTheNeglect
