Kerwin, M. W.
Colorado gold rush participant.
M.W. Kerwin apparently traveled in 1860 to Colorado from Chicago with a company consisting of Joseph McMullen and Mssrs. Cass, Dowling, Lambert, Roydon, and Fulton, who are mentioned in the accounts. From St. Joseph, Mo., they journeyed overland to the Platte River road, and then took the Pike's Peak trail cutoff to Denver. They mined in the South Park region near Hamilton, Tarryall and the Blue River diggings. At least Kerwin and McMullen returned overland to St. Joseph, and then journeyed by steamboat down the Mississippi to New Orleans and Memphis respectively. Kerwin returned to Chicago on Dec. 1, 1860.
