#Throwback! A week ago at COP29, we co-hosted an insightful panel discussion titled "Building Climate Resilience in the Fragile States: Powerful Stories of Climate Action" at the IOM Pavilion. The session delved deep into innovative approaches to address the climate vulnerabilities of fragile states, with a focus on Somalia as a case study. It was a powerful platform for discussing the unique challenges and emerging solutions for building climate resilience in some of the world’s most vulnerable regions. The participants of the panel were; 1. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Minister of Resilience and Rural Development, South West State of Somalia 2. Mohamed Okash, Director, ICE Institute 3. Zamzam Ibrahim, Director, Somalis for Sustainability (Moderator) 4. Amin Rirash, Climate Expert, Somalis for Sustainability we explored the importance of tailored climate strategies, cross-sector collaboration, and the power of local knowledge to drive meaningful change. The discussions sparked ideas and strategies that will contribute to shaping the future of climate action in fragile states. Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Adam Abdullahi Isak, the Director General of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Southwest State, Somalia, to the institute. Our discussions centered on assessing the outcomes of COP29 and their implications for Somalia, with a particular focus on the forthcoming NDC3.0. We also explored innovative financing mechanisms to scale climate action and strengthen our collaboration in supporting impactful climate initiatives across Southwest State.
