A consortium of 8 NGOs whose objective is to increase resilience of vulnerable communities to climatic shocks in Somali
About us
The Somali Resilience Program (SomReP) is a members-led resilience consortium whose objective is to build the capacity of pastoralist, agro-pastoralist, fisherfolk and peri-urban host and internally displaced persons (IDP) communities. We focus on women, youth and people with disability to mitigate the impact of natural and man-made shocks and stressors, adapt to climate change, as well as diversify and adopt sustainable livelihood strategies. Following the Somali famine of 2011, NGOs and donors mobilized best practice and expertise to co-create an area- based, multi-sector design with interventions spanning the humanitarian, recovery, development and peace nexus. Building on member’s long-term commitment to vulnerable communities, SomReP employs graduation pathways to layer and sequence interventions over five-year periods to build absorptive, adaptive and set the foundation for transformative capacities. SomReP works directly with communities, in partnership with government and local civil society and private sector in disaster risk management, safety net strengthening, agricultural recovery and climate change adaptation, natural resource management, assets development, inclusive market systems and economic empowerment, health and protection systems support, gender mainstreaming and social inclusion. Practicing adaptive management, the consortium undertakes annual resilience measurements to understand the effectiveness of program interventions. The consortium also monitors exposure to shock that informs the use of its crisis modifier mechanism to protect resilience gains, livelihoods and save lives. Since inception, the consortium has worked in 22 districts with members’ operational presence enabling countrywide coverage. SomReP hosts platforms, including the Somali Response Innovation Lab (SomRIL), Somali Livestock Insurance Consortium (SLIC) and Resilience Nexus Learning Action Network (RNLAN) that champion innovations key to resilience building.

Today marks a significant milestone as we celebrate the successful upgrade of the Early Warning System—an achievement made possible under the EU #BREACH Project, funded by the European Union through Somali Resilience Program (SomReP). This upgraded system will allow The Somaliland National Disaster Preparedness and Food Reserve Authority (NADFOR) and other relevant government agencies to provide timely, quality & actionable alerts. It stands as a testament to the power of #collaboration and #innovation, aiming to create safer, more resilient communities. Thank you to all our partners and guests who helped us celebrate this momentous occasion.

Empowerment starts with connection🌾 We recently met with farmers from Bananeey in #Jowhar to discuss the transformative potential of M-DALAG. Through tools like tractor booking, crop disease reporting, & market price updates, farmers gain access to timely resources that aim to improve productivity & resilience. The feedback received & discussions held during these session are valuable to the #Riverine Project. Funded by the European Union through Somali Resilience Program (SomReP) we’re connecting farmers to real-time solutions—helping them save time, reduce costs, & boost productivity. Listening to their voices is how we ensure #MDALAG truly works for their needs.

Dear humanitarian and innovation professionals, Response Innovation Lab needs your help! 🙏 Over the past few years, we have been building and enhancing data visualization tools to help individuals and organizations better access information about humanitarian innovation ecosystems in the places where we work. We have recently released a new version of our SMILE database that incorporates brand new features such as our first Ecosystem Index, a way to "score" the scale, scope and diversity of the organizations engaged directly or indirectly in humanitarian action and social innovation in a particular context. You can see our beta version with data from the Uganda refugee response here: https://lnkd.in/e-e-QhTV. We will soon be posting an Open Source version on GitHub so that the tool can be replicated in any context by anyone willing. We need you 🫵 to help us understand whether or not such a tool could help you or your organization in its work through filling a short, anonymous survey: https://lnkd.in/eRPb-e9j Please share this post to people in your network who might find this initiative useful -- our friends at the Università Ca' Foscari Venezia (and Sofia Scquizzato in particular) need as much data as possible to help us properly evaluate this tool. Thank you! ❤️

Our community mobilizers in #Jowhar are now equipped with the tools and knowledge to bring M-DALAG’s services to life! Last week, Shaqodoon conducted training sessions on the M-DALAG system, teaching mobilizers how to assist farmers with features like registration, tractor booking, and crop disease reporting. The mobilizers will play a key role in keeping information about market prices up-to-date, farmer engagement and knowledge sharing. Part of the EU #Riverine Project funded by the European Union through Somali Resilience Program (SomReP), #MDALAG is all about innovative solutions that empower farmers.

Happy #WorldChildrenDay
🌍👦🏽👧🏾 On the occasion of World’s Children Day 2024, we are excited to share an interesting innovation journey of how a simple non-technological innovation can be scaled from one context to another for the well-being of children. ⁉️In late 2021, Nepal Innovation Lab mapped the key challenges faced by young children in Nepal aftermath of COVID-19: increase in suicide rates amongst children, alarming surge in cases of mental health issues, and limited interaction with their peers aftermath of COVID-19 lockdown. 💡The team ideated with subject matter experts and children on how can they develop simple tools to educate children on key child protection issues in a fun way! That led to the development of a scenario-based strategy board game for children in Nepal. As board games are not common in Nepal, this simple innovation was developed on 3E principles: Entertain, Empower, and Educate. 🚀Following an overwhelming response from over 53,000 children during the pilot phase, the boardgame was quickly adapted and piloted in Somalia with technical and financial support from World Vision Somalia and Response Innovation Lab. At present, the boardgame is being rolled out in 21 schools in Puntland Somalia where during the phase 1 of the piloting 3,410 children experienced the Somali version of the game to learn about the key child protection issues in a playful manner. ⏭️The boardgame is scheduled to be piloted in Vanuatu and other countries in early 2025. #ListenToTheFuture #Innovation4All #InclusiveEducation World Vision Somali World Vision International Nepal Somali Resilience Program (SomReP) Nishant Das Arnav Bhadra Rupendra Aryal Owora Paul Thatcher N.
