Today in #Mogadishu, senior officials from Somalia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation presented an approach to strengthening diplomacy and international cooperation under the Inclusive Politics Pillar of Somalia's National Transformation Plan (2025–2029). The meeting, co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Hamza Adan Haadoow, and UNDP Somalia Resident Representative, Lionel Laurens, brought together stakeholders, including diplomatic missions, development partners, and international organizations. The UN Development Programme, in partnership with the Government of Japan today handed over six Toyota pickup vehicles to the Federal Member States of Somalia through the Federal Government of Somalia. This is part of UNDP’s ongoing support to the Somali police to ensure service delivery in the fragile and newly recovered areas from Hirshabelle and Galmudug states of Somalia. "I want to express my gratitude to the Government of Japan for their solid support in building the Somali Police Force and contributing to our national security. We received six police pickup vehicles from Japan, delivered through UNDP. This, along with their continued support, reflects the strong bond between our nations. We deeply appreciate our brotherly Government of Japan and will never forget their generosity," said Minister Abdullahi Seikh Ismail, Ministry of Internal Security, Federal Government of Somalia. H.E. Ambassador Hiroshi MATSUURA, Ambassador of Japan said, “I hope that the police capabilities of Somalia, including Galmuduk and Hirshabelle, will be strengthened with the support of Japan, and that this will lead to improvement in public safety in the regions.”

Today in #Mogadishu, the Federal Ministry of Internal Security and FMS Ministries of Internal Security, alongside United Nations partners, launched the implementation of the $9M Joint Police Programme Phase II (JPP2). Funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, UN Women, and the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), JPP2 focuses on strengthening police efficiency, transparency, and professionalism while ensuring citizen safety and human rights under Somalia’s New Policing Model.
