In a significant move toward eco-friendly operations, UNDP Bahrain has installed a state-of-the-art solar energy system on the rooftop of the UN House. This project is a key component of UNDP’s global Greening Moonshot Initiative, which aims to cut the organization’s carbon footprint by 50% by 2030.

The newly launched solar installation, with a capacity of 52 kWp, will supply part of the electricity needs for the United Nations House. This advancement is expected to contribute to considerable CO2 reductions, bring the organization closer to carbon-neutral operations, and lead to notable economic savings and enhanced resource management.

Jehan AlMurbati, Head of Office a.i. at UNDP Bahrain, remarked, “At UNDP, we are dedicated to sustainability and creating a brighter future for the next generations. The installation of this solar energy system aligns with our strategy to develop a greener office, supported by the Greening Moonshot Initiative and local suppliers.”

By adopting this solar energy solution, UNDP Bahrain continues to set an example in combating climate change and promotes ambitious actions toward sustainability. This initiative supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all by 2030.
