Quickoffice is now available as a free download for Android & iOS devices. This article is about an important change to Quickoffice Pro and Pro HD applications, which are no longer supported and not available for download.
As of April 1, 2014, you will not be able to access files from any cloud storage services including Google Drive from within Quickoffice Pro and Pro HD applications. For existing Quickoffice Pro and Quickoffice Pro HD users, you can continue to use your existing app to create, view and edit documents, although moving to the Quickoffice app will allow you to take advantage of new features and updates to the product. For these reasons, we recommend downloading the Quickoffice app.
The new Quickoffice app has similar features to Quickoffice Pro and Pro HD, but there are a few changes worth noting:
- Quickoffice is free to download for all users of Android and iOS devices, and downloads require users to sign up for a Google Account or sign in with an existing account to access the app.
- Quickoffice Pro and Pro HD apps are no longer available for download and are not supported.
- Quickoffice works closely with Google Drive to provide a unified cloud storage solution where you can access, edit, and store your files. Other cloud storage providers are not supported within the app but in some cases may be compatible.
With the Quickoffice app (on iOS and Android), you’ll be able to work directly with both local files, as well as Office files stored in Google Drive. Note that the app requires you to sign in with a Google account, unless you’re using an Android device on a mobile operating system version higher than 4.3 such as version 4.4 (KitKat).
You may also work with Office files stored in other cloud platforms (eg. Box, Dropbox, etc.) by following these steps:
- Sign in to the Quickoffice app.
- Launch your preferred cloud service application.
- From within that cloud service’s app, select the file you’d like to work with.
- Once viewing the file in that app’s file viewer, choose to open the file in Quickoffice. (So for example, within the Box file viewer, select the file, tap “Open in” and select “Quickoffice.”). The file will be opened in the Quickoffice app for editing.
Once you’ve finished editing the file, you can save and store updates in other cloud services by following these steps:
- For iOS users: Save the updated file locally to your phone or tablet or to Drive. Then access that drive from within the Quickoffice app (e.g., Drive, “My iPhone” or “My iPad”) and locate your updated file. Open the file details panel for that file by clicking on the blue arrow next to your updated file, select “Open in” and choose your preferred cloud service. Your updated file should open in the cloud service app you selected, and you can save your updated file to the cloud from there.
- For Android users: You may be able to save the updated file directly back to the cloud service by clicking “save”. In some cases, saving directly back to the cloud service is not possible. In that case, you can save the updated file locally to your phone or tablet. Then open the cloud service app, navigate to the upload function and choose the file you saved locally to your phone or tablet. Your updated file will be uploaded to the cloud service app.
- This may leave you with two copies of the file in that app — the original, and the version edited in Quickoffice.
