    GISTDA will participate in the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-30) and the Indo – Pacific Space & Earth Conference (IPSEC) from 25-29 November in Perth, Australia. Representing space agency leaders, Mrs. Kandasri Limpakom, Deputy Executive Director will share her vision at the Plenary and Dr. Damrongrit Niammuad, Deputy Executive Director will receive an APRSAF Special Award for Long-term Contributions. In addition, our business development team will join the IPSEC,  a side event of APRSAF. We are open to exploring new business opportunities and are excited to connecting with space community.     Congratulations to Former GISTDA’s Executive Granted The 2024 Chinese Government Friendship Award 🏆 🎉 On 30 September 2024, the 2024 Chinese Government Friendship award ceremony was held to present the awards towards foreign experts, who have been heavily working and tremendously delivering fruitful contributions to China’s development, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In this year, Tatiya Chuentragun, Deputy Director General of Program Operation and Data Service Department at APSCO, and former Deputy Executive Director GISTDA, was the only Thai representative to receive this honourary award. Being a high-level executive at GISTDA, Mr. Tatiya was a spearheading leader to bridge joint international cooperation with space-based entities in China resulting to remarkable deliverables: Base map service, the project under Lancang Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, ASEAN-China Satellite Remote Sensing Application Centre, Lancang-Mekong Center for Remote Sensing Data and Application, SCGI Master program (39 graduated students), and space research experiment with Shijian-19 mission. The award appropriately reflects Mr. Tatiya’s dedication. The results from regarded contributions generate impacts to social and economic development as well as strengthening cooperation between China and Thailand on space mission and applications by bridging and delivering opportunities not only for Thailand but also the region.

    French Ambassador visited Space Krenovation Park to enhance France-Thailand space cooperation towards closer partnership On 28 October 2024, H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Poimboeuf (Ambassador of France to Thailand), diplomats from the Embassy of France in Bangkok, together with representatives from Airbus (Thailand) were warmly welcomed by Dr. Damrongrit Niammuad, GISTDA Deputy Executive Director at GISTDA Space Krenovation Park in Sri Racha, Chonburi. This visit has highlighted the remarkable France-Thailand on very long relationship and successful stories in space cooperation particularly the development of THEOS-1 and THEOS-2. This includes technology and knowledge transfers, manpower development, as well as its advanced space infrastructure. During the visit, Dr. Niammuad guided the French delegation through key areas of GISTDA’s operations, including the National Assembly Integration and Testing Center (AIT), the THEOS-2 Ground Control Operation, and the Space Technology Research Center (STREC). These facilities demonstrate Thailand’s expanding capabilities in space exploration, satellite operations, and research development.   Beside this technical visit, the meeting also underscored the significance of the enduring Thai-French relationship, with both parties discussing future activities to further enhance bilateral space cooperation to the next level. These discussions are especially meaningful as 2025 marks the 340th anniversary of the first diplomatic contact between Siam and France, and 2026 celebrates the 170th anniversary of formal Thai-French diplomatic relations. In addition to the strategic discussions, H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Poimboeuf, representatives from AIRBUS Thailand, and participants were gathering to celebrate the inauguration of the new THEOS-2 exhibition zone (sponsored by AIRBUS) at Space Inspirium, the unique space museum in Thailand. This exhibition is one of the latest accomplishments on space cooperation between Franco-Thai. This exhibition showcases THEOS-2, one of the latest accomplishments on space cooperation between Franco-Thai, with its aim to inspire the next generation of space enthusiasts and to recognise the immense benefits of THEOS-2 project.   France and Thailand have been a long-standing strategic partnership, this visit serves as a key milestone in enhance the relations towards closer partnership in space domain, reinforcing both nations’ shared vision of advancing space technology and exploring future possibilities in the global space industry.

    Thailand Hosts AOSWA 2024, Bolstering Space Weather Research and Global Collaboration Thailand has been an AOSWA member since 2010 and is honored to host the 7th Asia-Oceania Space Weather Alliance Workshop (AOSWA) from 8-11 October 2024, at Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel. The aims of the workshop is to bring together leading space weather researchers, Space Weather centers, and research institutions from across the Asia-Oceania region and to develop a robust system for monitoring and analyzing space weather, particularly for forecasting and issuing warnings about phenomena that could impact satellites, communications, and critical infrastructure. The conference provided an opportunity for participants to explore new tools for studying space weather, including observation, theory development, modeling, forecasting, and applications. The workshop covered 8 key topics: 1) Thermosphere, Ionosphere, and Magnetosphere Dynamics and Interactions; 2) Monitoring and Simulation of Solar Activity and Space Radiation; 3) Connecting Local Observation to Global Network and Space Weather Services; 4) Space Weather Awareness and Public Outreach; 5) AI and New Techniques of Space Weather Forecasting; 6) CGMS Efforts to Improve User Access to Operational Space Weather Data; 7)General Topics on Space Weather; and 8) Space Weather Impact and Mitigation. Thailand has consistently prioritized space weather research, recognizing its direct impact on the safety of satellites, communication systems, and navigation systems. Thailand strive to expand regional cooperation, enhance its domestic space weather forecasting capabilities, and elevate the contributions of its researchers and government agencies to global platforms.

    Thailand’s space experiment project by Mahidol University and GISTDA jointly participated in a space biology experiment under microgravity and cosmic rays on Shijian-19 mission (Recoverable Satellite) of China under the Lancang-Mekong cooperation framework. Faculty of Science, Mahidol University of Thailand, led by Dr. Tatpong Tulyananda, a faculty member and PI of Plant Biology & Astrobotany Laboratory (PBA lab), has been jointly implementing the project titled “Multi-omics analysis of Germinating Rice Seedlings Under Extreme Environmental Conditions”, with GISTDA team, a space agency of Thailand under Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). The project is selected to participate in the Shijian-19 mission, which is the newest reusable research satellite by China National Space Administration (CNSA). The Shijian-19 (SJ-19), including the Thai research payload, was successfully launched into space with the Long March 2D rocket from Jiuquan launch pad on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. The payload of Thailand team was successfully launched to outer space with the tremendous supports from Thai and Chinese strategic partners: CNSA/Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China/the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST)/ Beihang University/Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO)/Lancang Mekong Cooperation Framework/MHESI/Department of East Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand/the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing/Rice Department of Thailand/ and Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B). Next step, Mahidol University and GISTDA will conduct an experiment on the response and adaptation of rice seedlings, which are the returned samples, for accomplishing the goals of the project.

    Ambassador of Japan shows strong support for Thailand-Japan space cooperation! During the visit on 25 September 2024, GISTDA showcased its advanced facilities, including the AIT and other laboratories. The subsequent discussions between GISTDA, the Embassy of Japan, and the Cabinet Office proved highly productive, laying the groundwork for future cooperation and driving the growth of the space economy in both countries. GISTDA reiterated the commitment to a mutually beneficial partnership with Japan, aiming to enhance space exploration and innovation.
