🌊 SCGC x DMCR: Scaling Up Marine Ecosystem Protection with Innovative Solutions 🌍 SCGC, in collaboration with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), is doubling down on efforts to tackle marine waste and safeguard biodiversity. Led by Namthip Samphowprasert, SCGC's Director of Brand Management and Social Inclusion, and Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, DMCR's Director General, the partnership focuses on “Up-Scale” and “Up-Speed” strategies to expand impactful initiatives, including floating litter traps, fish homes, and mangrove reforestation. 🎯 Key Milestones: ✅ 25 New Floating Litter Traps Delivered: SCGC-DMCR Litter Trap Gen 3 is now deployed at river mouths and canals to intercept waste before it reaches the ocean. ✅ Proven Results: Over 50 litter traps installed across 17 provinces since 2020, reducing land-based waste flowing into the sea by more than 90 tons. ✅ Eco-Efficient Design: The Gen 3 traps are 50% lighter, easier to transport and install, and made with durable, recyclable HDPE plastic, extending their lifespan to 25+ years. 🔄 Innovations Driving Change: 🔵 Innovation for Better Marine: Floating litter traps, SCGC fish homes, and the Nets Up program transform discarded fishing nets into new marine materials using advanced recycling methods. 🔵 Circular Economy Model: Partnerships with key organizations like AEPW, FTI, and others to advance marine sustainability. 🔵 Community Engagement: SCGC volunteers have collected over 3 million tons of waste through regular beach clean-ups, with more than 2,000 volunteers participating in 2024 alone. This collaboration exemplifies SCGC’s commitment to sustainability and biodiversity protection, leveraging innovation and partnerships to create tangible environmental impact. 🌍 Strengthening Petrochemical Leadership with Innovation at LSP Vietnam 🚢 SCGC is taking a bold step forward in the petrochemical industry by enhancing the use of ethane feedstock at the Long Son Petrochemicals (LSP) plant in Vietnam. This strategic shift will significantly lower production costs, increase procurement flexibility, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable and competitive operations. 🚢 Securing Long-Term Supply and Logistics To ensure a reliable ethane supply, SCGC has entered a 15-year agreement with Enterprise Products Partners L.P., securing 1 million tons of ethane annually. In addition, we’ve partnered with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) under a 15-year charter agreement for three Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs), facilitating the efficient transport of ethane from the U.S. to Vietnam. Additional agreements for ethane carriers are also underway. 🔧 Optimizing Production for Efficiency and Flexibility The LSP plant has been re-engineered to leverage up to two-thirds ethane feedstock, alongside propane and naphtha, boosting operational efficiency. To support this, we are constructing cutting-edge ethane storage tanks capable of maintaining temperatures as low as -90°C, and upgrading production processes and facilities. This project is set to be completed by the end of 2027, aligning with the expected recovery of the petrochemical market. 🏭 Delivering High-Quality Polymers As a regional hub, the LSP plant produces globally recognized, high-quality polymers for Vietnam’s domestic market and international exports.
