This hotel has very good reviews which is why we chose it. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. When we arrived around 9:15 pm on a Sunday, there was no one at the reception desk. When an employee finally showed up, the check-in took forever. The employee and the client in front of us were having a lengthy friendly chat. By the time their chat ended, there were at least 12 people behind us waiting to be checked in. The parking lot closest to the hotel, which is narrow and small, was full so we parked in the overflow parking next door. Unfortunately the staff did not tell us that we'd have to climb a flight of stairs with heavy suitcases in order to get to the hotel. If there was an elevator for this parking lot, we did not see any sign of it. By the time we checked-in, the restaurants in the area were all closed or closing shortly (at 10;00 pm). After driving from Halifax, we did not feel like driving to try to find an establishment that was still open. And the only option within a short distance seemed to be a 24hr drive through McDonalds. The other option was the food items being sold at the hotel (e. g. $7 yogurt). The hotel does not offer a free breakfast service. On the plus side, the small room we had was clean and the bed was comfortable. I would definitely not stay here again and I would certainly think twice before staying at any Alt Hotel..
Wonderful stay - the property is as charming as it is convenient. We had the studio with kitchen on the ground floor. The back door opened right to our private parking space so it was really easy to get around. Everything was spotless and well appointed. We checked out the terrace but of course it was cold and covered in snow. It’s sure to be wonderful during warmer months. The guest portal is very helpful. This was our first visit to Quebec City and our son’s first visit out of the US - this made a terrific first impression! There are restaurants and shops up and down the street. We would definitely book again in the future. Thanks especially to Jade, who was consistently patient with my questions!
I liked the hotel location and facilities. The indoor pool was amazing and the live stage was so good. I would definitely visit here again and book the terrace view next time.
However, there are few things that I was very dissapointed.
The room was not managed well. There are white things are around the floors (it looks like painting or wall paper. I asked to change the room, but the new room has the same problem).
Hair dryer was phsically broken and not working.
Heater is not working and when I turn on, it is very noisy.
There was a party when we stayed and it was very noisy until almost 1 pm. We called at 12:30 and the reception said they send a security. However, it was still noisy after 30 mins).
We were so disappointed in the hotel. We are choice hotel members and are upset with the way we were treated. We thought it would be a very good place, but it turned out to be one of the worst places that we have ever stayed. So many things were wrong. First of all, they were not very customer friendly and that gave us the impression that we were not welcome. The coffee machine in the lobby was out of order, and the lobby was in the basement and looked very dinghy and dirty, and there was no way we would ever feel comfortable there. The Parking was atrocious and 2 blocks away and none of the attendances in the hotel would explain where it actually was and how it worked. We're not sure they even knew how it worked. No one seems to care and help us at all. The heater would not work in the room, and we called downstairs and were told that the heater was controlled by a computer and that he would turn it on for us. How crazy is that? Then after it got hot in the room, we had to call them back to turn it off. He then told us that he put the controls back in the room. He also insulted us by saying that no one else has ever complained about the heater system, even in the winter time. But with the controls in the hands of the staff, how can you control your own heater? We were also told that we could only put the heater in a certain range of temperature. Also the heater in the bathroom would not work, and was later told that these are not in service any longer. The ice machine was in the basement and we did not feel safe even getting ice. It was dimly lit and not very safe for us. We felt a bit scared when we went down there. No one offered any help with our luggage when we checked in, and was very rude during the check-in process. For the parking, I had to get the guy to come outside and point to the parking area because I could not understand his directions. As it turned out, he wanted to send us around the block when all we had to do was turn around and go down the same street. There were no instructions on how the parking worked and we had to figure it out ourselves which took 10 minutes or so. Had it not been for a local resident, we would not have known. The parking did not seem safe as there were lots of homeless folks sitting around and we did not feel safe at all. We were approached by a few and we left as soon as we could. The entire experience was horrible and we would never return to this hotel. The staff needs to learn to be more kind to its guests. It has caused us consideration to never return to Quebec City.
ผผู้เข้าพักOr, close to it. Convenient location and lovely, clean rooms. The restaurant was closed; however, there was coffee at the concierge desk. The hotel key card provided access when we came home late. The central location is just far enough from the bars to permit a good night's sleep. I am sure the staff is bilingual and could have reverted to English, so I doubly appreciate the patience with my son's first francophone experience.
We received great service during our stay in Quebec City. Two roomy rooms for our two families. The kids loved the recreation areas: darts, foosball, billiards, TV room. The adults appreciated the friendly service, from the booking process to our actual stay. We could put our food in the refrigerator, re-freeze our ice packs which is very handy when you’re on a family road trip. Quebec City did not disappoint and we all enjoyed our stay very much. The Auberge is right in the old city so you can walk everywhere.
Lovely, quaint hotel in old Quebec City, across from a park that faces Hotel Frontenac. Our room faced the St. Lawrence River. A central location which allowed us to walk everywhere that we wanted to see. You will be using their valet parking ($25/day) which is quite reasonable as there is VERY LITTLE in the way of parking nearby. There are restaurants and shopping abound so no need to worry about using the car while you're there. Our room included the breakfast, which was light continental fare but certainly did the trick. The rooms are small and noisy as it's such an old building but it was nice to be within the walking area of old Quebec.
The hotels greatest asset is its prime location, set in the heart of Old Quebec, where everything you'll want to see and visit is within easy walking distance of the hotel. This hotel also operates a contactless check-in and check out system so you never get to meet anyone, apart from the occasional housekeeping staff. Communication via text and email was quick and effective, but it would have been nice to have had a person to see face-to-face. The hotel needs investment, particularly on the interior decor. Carpets are old and stained in several areas, our fridge in our room wasn't working, the coffee machine was also out of order and you'll need to ask if you need any room glasses or replacement items. We also discovered blood on our toilet when we first checked in, which we ended cleaning ourselves. Adam and the team could have one of the best hotels in the area if only the business would reinvest in the establishment and really go the extra mile in looking at delivering an experience people would remember for the right reasons.
My husband and I stayed here as an add on to a trip further away. We had an emergency and had to cancel the remaining part of the trip but missed the cancel time. I hate to waste money so we went anyways. TMI WARNING!! We live roughly 6.5 hours from Quebec City. We drove this with a stop or two. I am of the belief that I will wait until almost doomsday if it means I don’t use a public toilet. That is me, heavily into the, yuck no thanks, category. Well old me is now on strong medications for a non communicable, my body hates me, condition. These medications go from zero to run in my GI tract and after roughly 7 hours in the car we arrived to the hotel. I was feeling ill and tired and really needed to get to the room. The nice girl at the desk reminded me of the 3:00 check in time. It was currently 2:46 or so. I asked her if an early check is was not possible then told her I would wait outside about 10 more minutes. After the longest 10 minutes we checked in and I found the room had a heated bidet, SCORE! Otherwise, it’s a lovely hotel in a very nice spot. Bed was quite hard in room 222 and our room didn’t have towels when we checked in. They brought us a few and that was fine. The mini toiletries were missed in the clean up, they were not full. I’m a bit of a clean freak and saw nothing that concerned me. Seemed nice and clean. Broken curtains should be replaced for full coverage since people below can see in the room. No elevator, quite steep stairs so be ready to climb if on the top floor like we were. One nitpick would be the mini split was confusing to run for us as we are not familiar with them. Didn’t figure out the ac properly until we were leaving. Requested a late check out of 1:00, usual time is 11:00am. They said no to 1 but yes to noon. Would definitely stay again in spite of the mini emergency and little missed things. Great close area right outside where you want to see, if it’s Old Quebec. :!
We made our reservations through a booking service and were expecting breakfast to be available. Only coffee, tea, and cocoa in the lobby, with coffee makers in the room. Had to show desk clerk our printed reservation and only then did he provide breakfast vouchers for a restaurant a short walk away. Of our five nights here we only had maid service once. Our traveling companions on another floor never received maid service, even when requested, although they were given clean towels. Beds were a little too soft for our liking. The hotel is directly adjacent to the Chateau Frontenac (shown in the picture for this hotel on the Trip Advisor website!), across the street from the Jardin du Gouverneurs park and the Terrasse Dufferin, which overlooks the St Lawrence River. So, location is fantastic. Not sure location made up for the disappointing hotel, however. When our flights home were cancelled, we were pleasantly assisted by hotel staff to book a taxi to the airport. A 20-min ride for four in a Toyota RAV4 was about $50 CAN.
The location of this hotel is absolutely fantastic. It is within walking distance of all the major attractions in Quebec City. The building is an older building with so much character and, I feel, so much wasted potential. While our beds were clean and comfortable the rest of the room was quite dirty and run down. If you walked barefoot on the floor your feet became immediately dirty. There was a previous guests fake eyelashes and coffee stains on the window sill. I’ve been a housekeeper in a historic building so I do understand the work and maintenance required to keep them clean and fresh, and was disappointed that this building isn’t being kept at its best.
