ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED Review: Great Display, Compact And Has A Secondary Screen That Works Wonders 9

The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED was announced last year together with the whole series of OLED laptops. OLED display laptops have been picking up their market share in recent years, and I would say that for those who are not looking for gaming-focused laptop, OLED display laptop is definitely my top recommendation especially for those who love to edit photos or watch videos on their laptop.

Design

The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED comes in its iconic metal-spun finish and comes in their pine grey color. On the top chassis, we have the usual ASUS logo etched. While on the bottom chassis, you’ll see the speakers and air vent holes.

Opening the laptop the 180° ErgoLift hinge provides lift to the laptop while revealing its 14-inch display that supports up to 2.8K (2880 x 1800px) in a 16:10 ratio.

Sitting on top of the display in the nano edge frame will be the webcam for video calls or video recording.

Going down, we have a 75% keyboard layout with a fingerprint sensor on/off button on the top right of the keyboard.

Last but not least, the ASUS Zenbook highlights a screen pad that settles right below the keyboard as the touchpad.

As for I/O ports, we have the minimal needed I/O ports on the sides. On the left, we have only one USB 3.0 port. While on the right, we have an HDMI port, Audio Jack port, two USB C ports, and a micro SD card reader slot. As for me, I would prefer if they could squeeze in an extra USB A port for accessories. As much as the laptop is meant for you to bring around, I personally love to plug in a wireless mouse and keyboard to the laptop while working at home. Most accessories nowadays still rely on USB A ports as much as USB C is becoming more popular right now. Even if those accessories are USB C charging, they mostly come with a USB A to USB C connector. While we are able to fix this problem by bringing around a USB hub that is easily available, it is still a hassle for me to remember carrying it around.

Performance

ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED

Those who have been following our site for some time now would know that I personally enjoy using laptops with OLED displays for work and videos. For those who do not know why you should pick a laptop with an OLED display; in short, it gives you a crisp and clearer display and is able to display true colors as it is. Once you enjoy watching videos and looking at images on the OLED display, I would say there is no turning back. The only downside to an OLED display would be having a higher resolution by sacrificing the refresh rate that you get on a LCD panel. The OLED display on this laptop is cap ath 90hz max which is quite acceptable.

Picking up the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED is pleasurable. As much as having a bigger screen allows you to see more and do more on one display. The ASUS screen pad that comes with the Zenbook 14X OLED act as a smaller external display.

Sneakily watching videos while working is so convenient! Jokes aside, I love to pop Spotify’s app running on the screen pad to navigate easily between playlists and songs. While playing Genshin Impact or other games, it is convenient to load up the guides or checklist to assist you during your game session without sacrificing your main screen display. No matter, virtual or physical classes or meetings. You are able to pop up the voice recorder right from the screen pad itself to record the session. Or have the meeting screen on the screen pad to listen in while still having the main screen to work on your documents.

The main display of the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED is touchscreen-enabled and supports up to 90Hz. Navigating around the laptop is so convenient especially when you are presenting things using the laptop screen. Click, drag, drop, or swipe is all you need. You can even drag a window to the screen pad for it to be displayed. I did realize that most windows are not optimized to be displayed on the screen pad as of now, but I hope ASUS will update its software as the screen pad becomes more common on their laptops.

There is one little thing that I find troublesome on the screen pad is the accidental touch while typing. I find myself launching apps from shortcuts when I didn’t want to. The screen pad allows you to add group app shortcuts, where you are able to launch a few apps just with one touch which is pretty cool. I could preset my email software along with Microsoft Word and Spotify for a chill workday. I could also preset a website guide with a specific game of my choice along with discord for my gaming session.

Aside from the display, the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED we have is equipped with Intel Core i7-1165G7, GeForce MX450, 2GB GDDR6 and 16GB LPDDR4X on board with an additional 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0. Breaking the boundaries of performance for thin and light laptops – with 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processors the laptop is able to smoothly run multiple tasks and heavy tasks with the given hardware packed in it.

The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED comes with two very convenient app, MyAsus and ScreenXpert. The ScreenXpert is an app for you to easily manage your windows distribution. While the MyAsus app allows you to maintain your system, update your software, optimize your PC performance, and contact ASUS for after-sales service and support. You can also download it on your phone no matter you are using iOS or Andriod to mirror your phone to the laptop for ease of access.

Conclusion

The ASUS Zenbook 14X is a perfect powerhouse and entertainment house with it’s given features and OLED display. Getting attached to your screenpad is definitely a thing once you are used to having it. Getting back to your usual laptop without those shortcuts is just a very different experience.

Having that extra screen for notes reference or to multitask is just so convenient. I personally use it as a screen with an external mouse more than using it as a trackpad.

If you have not tried any OLED display laptop yet, the ASUS Zenbook 14X may be the one for you to try. I’m pretty sure you guys would love the display, especially for those who does video editing or photo editing frequently that need a display with color accuracy.

The ASUS Zenbook 14X is now available in the Malaysian market from RM 5,999. You can visit any ASUS official distributor stores or ASUS physical stores to get a touch and feel for yourself. You can also purchase it online via Shopee and Lazada.
