Nikon Z9 II with 61 Mp Sensor Real or Fake ? Nikon Z5 II Coming Next...

According to the latest famous source from the website nikoneye, the upcoming Nikon Z92 camera is expected to carry a 61-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor from Sony, which is currently being used inside the Sony A7R5 camera. This information isn’t correct, as per the information we have the Nikon Z9 II uses an Expeed 8 image processor and the same 45Mp Stacked CMOS sensor, expected announcement Q4 of 2025.

But just before that, we published an article about upcoming Nikon cameras of 2025, and in that article, we very clearly mentioned that

  1. the Nikon Z9 II camera will have an improved Expeed 8 image processor, but the sensor will remain the same 45-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor which was first announced with the Z9 in the year 2021.
  2. Not only that, the same source mentioned that the Nikon Z5 II camera is coming very soon, with the most probable announcement due in the month of January 2025, and shipping will start sometime in the months of February or March.

Based on Nikon’s product update trends and the typical lifecycle for entry-level models, the Nikon Z30 Mark II announcement is likely to happen around on Q4 of 2025 or Q1 of 2026.

2. Nikon Z5 Mark II

According to the rumors, the next camera after the Z50II is the Nikon Z5 Mark II, which is expected to arrive on or before the first quarter of 2025. The camera uses 24 Mp BSI CMOS sensor and the latest Expeed 7 Image processor, as well as updated AI AF, coming directly from the Nikon Z8 camera, so overall we will have a massive improvement in the Nikon Z5 Mark II camera

Nikon Z5 II Major specification

  • 24.5MP Full-Frame BSI CMOS Sensor
  •  Expeed 7 image processor
  • 4K UHD 30p / Full HD 120p Video Recording, 1.5x 60p with crop

  • 3.2″ Tilting Touchscreen LCD
  • Dual UHS-II SD Card Slots
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Connectivity
  • USB-C Charging and Power Delivery Support

That is interesting and if it arrives, specifically with IBIS then for sure Canon R8 will get a very tough competition from Z5 II.

3. Nikon Z9 II

Nikon Z9 II will get the Expeed 8 image processor, image processor will remain the same. That means we will get a massive update in the processing power of the existing Z9 camera, which will directly affect the autofocusing algorithms, specifically 3D object tracking, continuous shooting speed, video recording resolution, and frame rate. So for sure, we will have a massive update in the camera’s core specifications. The camera is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2025.

4. Nikon Z7 III

the Nikon Z7 Mark III will mark its presence sometime in August to November 2025. As per the latest rumors, Nikon will bring a higher resolution sensor the the Z7 III series, probably a 61 MP sensor from Sony or a 67MP sensor from Towerjazz, Nikon has been working with 67Mp sensor Prototypes for more than 2 years. Some rumor mills believe the upcoming Nikon Z7 III will get the same 45.7 Mp stacked CMOS sensor, but that is not true. The priority of Nikon is to keep the Z7 III in competition or better than the Sony A7R series, specifically in terms of image quality and dynamic range.

 Nikon Z7 III Specification

  • 61 + MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor
  • 8K30p and 4K60p Video, 10-bit Internal, ProRes RAW
  • Up to 20 fps Max Shooting
  • 493-Point AF
  • AI-Based Subject Detection
  • 3.2″ 4-Axis Tilting Touchscreen LCD
  •  Dual UHS-II SD Slots
  • 5 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Nikon Z7 II is of the most outdated camera of Nikon Z mount along with the Nikon Z5, so Nikon Z7 III update will sure arrive in 2025 without a doubt, if we will get any updated related to the same will update you asap.

5. Nikon Cinema Camera

RED’s R&D teams worked for many years to achieve their current level of perfection. Now, with Nikon’s acquisition, it’s easier for Nikon to transfer these technologies and allow their Z-Mount R&D division to benefit from them. At the same time, Nikon will also share their advanced autofocus algorithms with RED, aiding in the development of active Z-Mount-based cinema cameras in the near future.

In past, RED partnered with TowerJazz for their cameras’ 20-megapixel global shutter Super 35mm sensors, offering advanced video capabilities. This partnership helped RED stay ahead of other consumer and mid-level cameras.

Nikon and TowerJazz Collaboration isn’t new,  Nikon and TowerJazz have a long-standing relationship, with TowerJazz relying on Nikon for equipment and Nikon using TowerJazz sensors in their DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. This collaboration is evident from the companies’ shared presentation materials.

Potential Release of KOMODO or Raptor with  Zmount:

A RED camera with Nikon’s Z-mount. We can expect upcoming RED Komodo-X variants, like Komodo Z to feature ACTIVE  Z-mount support. Since the face detection system is already enabled with the Canon RF mount, if Nikon introduces a Z-mount, we can be sure that the face detection autofocus system will be enabled either via an app or directly in the camera.

What to Expect – So in the future, we will see 12-bit internal video recording capabilities and global shutter sensors coming to Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras. At the same time, upcoming RED cameras will feature an active Z-mount with full-time autofocus support.

Arrival Date of Nikon Cinema Camera – We would love to have a development announcement from Nikon on or before Q4 of 2024. although they have already announced the development of their first cinema lens 28-135mm for Z mount.

6. Nikon Z90

According to the latest rumors, the 33 MP sensor prototype is expected to be approved for production. But at the same time, Nikon is now very concerned about market demand and is not just throwing up every mirrorless line in front of users. If they see very clearly that there is market demand, then they will surely announce the Nikon Z90 camera.

Nikon Z90 Latest Rumored Specification

  • 33.4 Mp DX-Format CMOS Sensor
  • EXPEED 7 Image Processor
  • UHD 4K60p/Full HD 180fps Video Recording
  • 5-Axis In-Body Vibration Reduction
  • Focus-Point Stabilization
  • AI AF, Improved 3D Autofocus, 9 Subject Detection
  • Pre-Release Capture, 15 Mechanical Shooting
  •  Dual UHS-II SD Slots
  • 5 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Nikon has lowered the price of full-frame Z cameras, starting with the Z5 and Z6 II, as well as the ZF. All these full-frame cameras are in a reasonable price range. The main intention of the brand right now is to upscale the user experience to a frame sensor as much as possible. So, they can have as many options as possible in terms of Z-mount bodies and lenses.

So, we do not doubt the prototypes being tested in Nikon’s lab, and the Nikon Z90 will surely be announced in the near future. However, only time will tell when the marketing team gives a green flag to these prototypes.

7. Nikon Z80

There is very little chattering about the Nikon Z80 camera. Of course, if it arrives, it will be somewhere in between the Z90 and the Z50 Mark II camera. If you have to make an educated guess for a core specification of the Nikon Z80, then it will have a 24 MP DX partially stacked BSI CMOS sensor, paired with active pixel image stabilization, and 4K 60 FPS recording without any crop.

But again, the information related to a concept Z80 camera is very less. As soon as we get any information related to that, we will be updating you soon.

8. Nikon Z4

Nikon Z4 camera rumor: Back in 2022, we spotted a Nikon compact full-frame release camera body with very minimal controls. No EVF was included in the back to reduce the production line cost, and at the very same time, a tiny display was visible on top of the body. So, from this patent, it was very clear that Nikon is very mindful about developing a super budget full-frame body that will allow users to get a full-frame camera at a super affordable price range.

We received this theory from a source we trust a lot, but at the very same time, we decided not to publish it when we received it at that time, since at that time it didn’t look logical to me, but finally I am publishing it here

According to the source, Nikon will surely announce this Z5 II body next year (which means 2025). But at the very same time, they are also thinking parallelly to put the core specifications of the existing Z5 Mirrorless camera, paired with the Expeed 7 image processor, in a super budget body. By removing the EVF, the production line cost will go down, and with the video-core specifications and autofocus performance of the camera being improved, Nikon will position it as an entry-level Fullframe camera.

Nikon Z5 II or Something Else - What Next From Nikon ?

Nikon finally announced the Nikon Z50 Mark II camera, and we published a month ago that its announcement was about to happen soon (Nikon Z50 II Coming, Early Specs Leaked – Aug 30). Now, it has already happened. But it’s not only the Z50 Mark II camera that was in the announcement pipeline; according to the rumors, the next camera after the Z50II is the Nikon Z5 Mark II, which is expected to arrive on or before the first quarter of 2025.

I was thinking of postponing this particular post since it seems quite illogical that Nikon while announcing a full-frame camera, might hurt the sales of the Z50 Mark II camera even if it arrives at a price range near about $1200.

But despite all that logical thinking, I have decided to publish this since the rumors are very strong about the Z5 II’s arrival with a full-frame BSI CMOS sensor, like the one we’ve seen in the Nikon Z6 Mark II camera. So, it will indeed be a huge upgrade if the Z5 II features the 24MP BSI CMOS sensor from the Z6 II camera.

Key Features

  • 24.5MP Full-Frame BSI CMOS Sensor
  •  Expeed 7 image processor
  • 4K UHD 30p / Full HD 120p Video Recording, 1.5x 60p with crop
  • 273-Point Hybrid AF with Eye and Animal Detection
  • 5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilization
  • Bright 3.69M-Dot OLED Electronic Viewfinder
  • 3.2″ Tilting Touchscreen LCD
  • Dual UHS-II SD Card Slots
  • Built-In Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Connectivity
  • USB-C Charging and Power Delivery Support

We’ll update you as soon as we get the latest information.

Nikon Z50 II and Nikon Z5 II Launching Soon? Here’s What You Need to Know!

One thing is for sureᅳwe have confirmed news that the Nikon Z50 Mark II and Nikon Z5 Mark II are the next two cameras from Nikon.

The source also suggests that if everything goes as scheduled, you will be using both cameras by the end of January. I live in Asia, so if we account for shipping dates, the announcement is likely to happen in late October or the first week of November.

When asked about the possibility of a Nikon Z7 Mark III or a flagship APS-C camera like the Nikon Z80 or Z90, he said that everything would happen, but after these two announcements. First, Nikon will bring up these two baseline models, and later, they will focus on higher-end APS-C and full-frame models.

— end of rumor —

BTW, the previous tip we received with specs of the Nikon Z5 II suggested the Z5 II would be released in Jan of 2025.

Nikon Z5 Mark II Rumored Specification

24.5MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor
EXPEED 7 Image Processor
UHD 4K30 Video; 1.5x 60p with crop N-Log & 10-Bit HDMI Out
5-Axis Sensor-Shift Vibration Reduction
Built-In Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Dual SD UHS-II Card Slots

By putting all these together one thing is sure Z5 II and Z50 II both are coming.

When I asked AI to generate the possible announcement date of the upcoming Nikon Z5 II and Nikon Z50 II camera, by feeding all the latest set of information we have here is the result

Here’s a timeline of the possible announcement date of the upcoming Nikon Z50 II and Nikon Z5 II based on the typical product launch cycle, the holiday sales period, and hints from ***************:

Possible Timeline for Nikon Z50 II and Z5 II Announcements:

  1. Late October 2024 (Final Week):
    • Announcement Window: This would be Nikon’s last chance to announce both cameras in time for the holiday season. They will likely want to create buzz right before November so that pre-orders and shipments can be processed in time for holiday sales.
    • Possible Date Range: October 25-31, 2024.
    • Reasoning: Nikon will want dealers and retailers to have enough time to stock the cameras for major holiday events like Black Friday (late November) and Christmas. An announcement by late October allows for marketing and logistics to ramp up.
  2. Early November 2024:
    • Backup Announcement Window: If Nikon doesn’t hit the late October window, an early November announcement could still allow enough time for a pre-holiday push.
    • Possible Date Range: November 1-7, 2024.
    • Reasoning: While cutting it close to the holiday season, Nikon could still generate enough consumer interest for buyers to place pre-orders or make purchases for November’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
  3. Mid-November 2024:
    • Less Likely, but Possible:
    • Possible Date Range: November 10-15, 2024.
    • Reasoning: Announcing mid-November might reduce the chances of hitting the holiday sales cycle, but Nikon could focus on early 2025 sales instead. Retailers would still be able to stock the products for last-minute holiday shoppers.
  4. January 2025 (CES 2025):
    • Delayed Announcement (Backup Plan): If Nikon missed the holiday window of Oct and Nov entirely, the next significant event would be the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in early January.
    • Possible Date: January 8-12, 2025.
    • Reasoning: CES is one of the largest tech trade shows and often used by camera manufacturers to showcase their latest products for the new year. Nikon could reveal the Z50 II and Z5 II at this event if they opt for a delayed launch.

Key Considerations:

  • Final Week of October is the ideal period for Nikon to make the announcement if they want to hit holiday sales.
  • November Announcements would still give retailers a chance to stock, but with less lead time.
  • CES 2025 offers Nikon a strong stage if they prefer to target the new year rather than the end of 2024.

Nikon Upcoming Camera 2024 - 2025

Set of upcoming Nikon cameras that we will see in the year 2024 and 2025. We already have a credible announcement of the Nikon Z6 Mark III camera in the year 2024 and we are waiting for Nikon Z50 Mark II as well as P1000 Mark II.

1. Nikon Z50 Mark II

So far, we have an updated core specification of the upcoming Nikon Z50 Mark II camera, and as per the latest core specification, we may have the same 20 Megapixel CMOS sensor that we have seen in the original Z50.

Nikon Z50 II Rumored Specs

  • Updated body design
  • Expeed 7
  • A vari-angle screen like the Z6 III
  • USB-C
  • Will use the same Nikon EN-EL25 battery
  • Official announcement: soon (before the end of 2024)
  • The same 20.9MP DX-format CMOS sensor

The launch of the camera is expected sometime in September or October. We will update you when we get any new information related to the upcoming Z 50 Mark II camera.

If the rumored specification is true, then for sure Nikon will disappoint a lot of consumers out there. But at the same time, we do know that the Z50, as well as Nikon Z30, and we can also consider the Nikon Zfc here, are the best APS-C line of cameras in terms of low light performance. So, it’s a kind of choice that consumers have to make between having a Higher Resolution APS-C camera from a different brand or a camera that performs exceptionally well in low light.

2. Nikon Z7 Mark III

The next rumored camera is the Nikon Z7 Mark III. Why are we talking about the Nikon Z7 Mark III camera? Since the Z6 Mark III already arrived, it’s obvious that the Z7 Mark III is in the announcement pipeline. The other thing that is supporting the framework of the rumor is a massive discount going on for the Z7 Mark II camera body. You can look at it in the store, and it’s giving more than $1000 discount on the body of the Z7 Mark II camera at the time when I am writing this article.

Nikon Z7 Mark II Camera Specification

  • 61.2 MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor
  • Dual EXPEED 7 Image Processors

We expect a 60-megapixel BSI full-frame sensor in the Nikon Z7 Mark III camera body. At the very same time, we are also expecting 8K video recording capability, as we have already seen in the Nikon Z8 as well as Nikon Z9. Let’s hope for the best and wait for the upcoming Z7 Mark III.

3. Nikon Z90 / Z70

Nikon D500 camera replacement or you can also call it, Nikon Z90 Z70. (name not confirmed yet) is expected to arrive in the year 2023.  The only details we have related to the upcoming Nikon APS-C flagship camera is

Nikon Z90 – APS-C flagship| Stacked APS-C Sensor| Built in IBIS | 6K | Arrival date unknown

So, yes we are waiting for the Nikon Z90 and lets hope we will see it soon.

5. Nikon Z5 Mark II

Nikon Z5 Mark II update was expected to arrive in 2023, but unfortunately, the camera has been delayed. The Nikon Z5 was announced back in July 2020. So, its overdue for an update

6. Nikon Z9S

The Nikon Z9S is rumored to arrive sometime in Q4 of 2025. The name is not confirmed yet, but there was a tip that Project Z9S has been started. The camera is coming to directly compete against the existing Canon R3 as well as Canon R1, with flagship capabilities and ultra-fast shooting speed, with a kind of lower resolution sensor similar to what we have seen in the Nikon Z6 Mark III.

But keep in mind Nikon is very smart with their moves; they have added a partially developed stacked CMOS sensor in their Z6 Mark III camera, not the fully stacked sensor, and the big reason was to save it for a future flagship model. So, yes, a 24 MP fully developed stacked CMOS sensor is still under development, and we will soon see it in the Z9S camera body.
