The Tata Punch has become the best-selling car in India for 2024. For the first time in the last forty years, a Maruti Suzuki model hasn’t topped the charts.
Tata Motors sold 2,02,030 units of the Punch, overtaking the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which secured the second spot with 1,90,855 units sold.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga followed closely in third place with 1,90,091 units, while the Brezza and Hyundai Creta rounded out the top five with 1,88,160 and 1,86,919 units sold, respectively.
India’s passenger vehicle market witnessed a significant rise in sales, climbing from 33.49 lakh units in 2018 to 42.86 lakh units in 2024. Notably, three out of the top five best-sellers in 2024 were SUVs, highlighting the country’s growing appetite for this segment. The Tata Punch, with its compact SUV appeal, safety features, and diverse powertrain options, has successfully capitalized on this trend. Here, let’s take a look at why this model has been a success for Tata Motors.
Why the Tata Punch stands out
The Tata Punch owes its success to its affordability, list of safety features and multiple powertrain options among other features on offer. Some highlights include high ground clearance and a commanding driving position. Its compact size ensures easy maneuverability in city traffic, while competitive pricing and impressive fuel efficiency make it accessible to a broader audience. With a modern design and strong safety credentials, it appeals to younger buyers and families alike.
