CHENNAI: Chief minister and DMK president M K Stalin has lauded Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan after the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared VCK as a recognised state party. In a post on X on Saturday, Stalin said it is a recognition for the hard work of Thirumavalavan.
“I am happy to know that the ECI officially declared the party (VCK) as a recognised state party. I appreciate this as recognition for the hard work of my dear brother Mr @thirumaofficial,” he said in the post.
In a communication addressed to the VCK president, ECI secretary Ashwani Kumar Mohal said the party fulfilled the conditions laid down for recognition as a state party in Tamil Nadu on the basis of a review of the party’s poll performance in the general election to the Lok Sabha 2024.
“Accordingly, the commission granted recognition to Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi as a state party in the state of Tamil Nadu under the provisions of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968. Further, it is also informed that in view of the party’s request via its letter dated June 27, 2024, the symbol ‘Pot’ has been reserved for the party in the state of Tamil Nadu. Notification in this regard will be issued in due course,” said the ECI secretary in the communication.
