DHANBAD: Responding to a threat message from a Pakistani don, who allegedly demanded an apology for a “provocative speech” against a particular community, actor-turned-politician
Mithun Chakraborty on Tuesday refused to do so, saying nothing that he did warranted the issue of such a statement.
Notably, the ‘Disco King’, who got his pocket picked earlier but eventually got the wallet back, said he has not made any hate speech during his entire life.
Talking to reporters in Dhanbad later, the actor, said, “I have not said anything for which I need to apologise. I have never made any statement in my life that incites hatred between communities. My statement was distorted by the media. I would never want any riots to erupt because of my words. If I said anything wrong, I would have no problem apologising.”
Meanwhile, campaigning in Nirsa on Tuesday for BJP candidate Aparna Sengupta, Chakraborty’s pocket was picked and his wallet went missing. BJP workers went into a tizzy and began frisking people on stage and those around Chakraborty after the announcer requested the public to return the star’s wallet.
Dhanbad BJP district president Ghanshyam Grover said the wallet was recovered immediately. “No one stole the actor’s purse, but it fell on the stage, which was traced immediately,” he said. Sources, however, said the pickpocket must have got rattled and dropped it near the stage.
