Karnataka Schools Closed on Wednesday: Karnataka declared a public holiday today, on December 11, 2024, to honor former Chief Minister SM Krishna, who passed away at 92. A three-day mourning period (December 10-12) is in effect, with public entertainment prohibited and flags at half-mast. Schools and colleges will remain closed today in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Bellary, Chikkaballapur, Bidar, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kalaburagi, Vijayanagara and other districts across the state.

Bengaluru Schools Closed Today: The Karnataka government has declared a public holiday today, on December 11, 2024 Wednesday, for all government offices, schools, and colleges, including aided institutions, to honour the late former Chief Minister SM Krishna. A three-day mourning period, from December 10 to 12, 2024 has also been announced.
An official statement reads: "Wednesday, December 11, 2024, has been declared a public holiday for all government offices and educational institutions across the state in honour of the deceased. A three-day mourning period, from December 10 to December 12, will be observed, during which all public entertainment programs are prohibited. The national flag will be flown at half-mast on all state government buildings."

SM Krishna, who passed away on December 10 at the age of 92, was renowned for his pivotal role in transforming Bengaluru into India’s Silicon Valley. The former CM passed away early Tuesday morning at 2:45 AM. His cremation will be held with full state honours in his hometown, Mandya, today.
Recognised for his extensive political contributions, SM Krishna received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, in 2023. Born on May 1, 1932, in Somanahalli, Mandya district, he also served as the Governor of Maharashtra and Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
