T.C. Ulaştırma ve Altyapı Bakanlığı Avrupa Birliği Türkiye Delegasyonu SKUP Türkiye BNN Consulting and Engineering Ltd POLIS Network Panteia Rupprecht Consult GmbH 🚌 🌍 🛴In today's cities, transportation has a great diversity in terms of both speed and environmentally friendly options. Scooters and public transportation offer an alternative solution in terms of both cleaner energy use and faster transportation in urban transportation. So, why should we prefer this duo together? Scooters cause minimal damage to the environment with lower energy consumption than fossil fuel or electric cars. Public transportation, on the other hand, reduces carbon emissions by transporting hundreds of people in a single trip. By combining these two methods, we can significantly reduce our carbon footprint. By using a scooter, we can reach public transportation stations faster and save time even during rush hour traffic.

Kudos to Paris' Mayor Hidalgo ✨🌃
1 simple trick Paris used 🇫🇷 Spoiler alert: Everybody can...💪🏽 Paris transformed from a 'red hotspot' of pollution to a green oasis of cleaner air. The secret? Decisive Action. ✅ DO - what Paris implemented: ➡️ Created 1.400km of protected bike lanes and cycling infrastructure. ➡️ Established low emission zones. ➡️ Transformed riverbanks into pedestrian zones. ➡️ Introduced the 15-minute city concept. ❌ DON'T (what was banned): ➡️ Banned through traffic in city center. ➡️ Prohibited older diesel vehicles. ➡️ Restricted SUVs with higher parking fees. ➡️ Removed 70.000 parking spaces for cars. Paris shows that real change is possible - in a relative short amount of time. It's not rocket since. Kudos to Paris' Mayor Hidalgo. Pune used to be a cyclist’s haven; in the 1980s, cycle modal share was over 50% compared to cars and other vehicles! This figure has drastically changed to a worrisome 3% in 2016. The Pune Cycle Plan was implemented to ensure an uptick in cycle modal share and, most importantly, to turn Pune into the cycle-friendly city that it once was. But today, most of the plan's proposals have fallen apart. Thank you to Tanzeel A, Pranjal Kulkarni, Ranjit Gadgil, Prasanna Desai, Ajay Pathak, Mallika Gupta, Adesh Gupta, Arshel Akhter, Dalip Sabharwal, Lou Henderson, Neeraja Kandala, Trilok Khairnar and Payoja Madabhushi for your inputs and for making this story possible. BYCS' Alex Baum is thrilled to have been one of over 100 experts from 45 cities that contributed to the creation of Global Designing Cities Initiative's two most recent Streets for Kids resources, “How to Engage Kids in Street Design” and “How to Evaluate Streets Near Schools”. Additionally, we were excited to see a number of our knowledge products referenced in the guides, including 'Strengthening the human infrastructure of cycling' 'Cycling Cities for Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers'; 'School Streets to shape child-friendly cities', and 'The Power of School Streets'. Finally, two of our projects - 'Bicycle Heroes - Prioritising Youth Voices' and 'Youth Bicycle Mayor' - were used as case studies to demonstrate the value of encouraging kids to advocate for better streets. These two resources supplement the award-winning “Designing Streets for Kids” guide. Together, they offer cities extensive evidence, inspiring and diverse case studies, and practical tools to support long-term and meaningful change in kids' ability to move and enjoy their city. 👉Download here: https://lnkd.in/d7aaX8aX Hyperlinks: 1. https://lnkd.in/d7aaX8aX (Streets for Kids resources) 2. https://lnkd.in/eMeqC2Zf ('Strengthening the human infrastructure of cycling' report) 3. https://lnkd.in/ebhSyEBV ('Cycling Cities for Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers' report) 4. https://lnkd.in/erQj6geB ('School Streets to shape child-friendly cities' report) 5. https://lnkd.in/e38FAu5T ('The Power of School Streets' blog) 6. https://lnkd.in/dh4R4m5 (“Designing Streets for Kids” guide) FIA Foundation, Fondation Botnar, Van Leer Foundation
